    BMW M5 Facelift (2013)

A couple of minor visual changes, nothing really groundbreaking or really new (new colors from BMW Individual, also new online music service, new optional touch controller for the Navi system, smaller steering wheel, etc.).

Engine stays the same but optional Performance Package available with 15 hp more, a sportier chassis setup, new 20'' wheels, a new traction management setup, new steering setup and black chrome exhaust pipes. Same package is available for the M6 models. Price tag for M5: 8800 EUR (incl. 19% VAT).  Performance improvement: 0.1 seconds from 0-100 kph and 0.2 seconds from 0-200 kph.

Available (in Germany) starting July 2013.

What!!!! 2013 M5 Smiley But the M5 was launched in very end of 2011 wasn't it? Not even two years have passed and a FL is being madeSmiley There's something wrong here, maybe M5 was launch on begining 2010 but I really dont think so ! Would love to see a side by side pic with the new and old model, can't almost see any difference from this pic!

Why? You could choose from different skins, which would be amazing.

I had an Opel Kadett GSi almost 30 years ago, this car was a sensation at that time (Vmax 203 kph with "only" 115 hp, digital dash). The digital dash was fun and worked quite well, with the current display technology and fast CPU/GPU combos, I think that manufacturers could produce an amazing digital dash, maybe so good that you wouldn't even notice it is digital. Smiley

This was an amazing car indeed. I can still remember driving in it (as a passenger...) SmileySmileySmiley

BTW, a FL after less than 24 months... BMW will annoy a number of customers, that's for sure Smiley Also, the FL sort of destroys the previously Ok looks of the 5 series. More in case of the normal 5 series cars, the M5 still looks Ok.

To be honest, I couldn't care less about different skins, for me a digital dash would be one of the most useless options ever.

In case of the M5 you've got a big screen in the centre console and arguably the best head up display currently available, so for me there's absolutely no need for a digital dash. Moreover I'm a fan of the classical gauges. If it's a track car or a car that is derived from a race car, a digital dash is fine, but also there I won't need gimmicky different skins. Smiley

Alfa Romeo have done just that with the new 4C.

    Re: BMW M5 Facelift (2013)

How can adding 15hp to a car already making 560hp even be felt?  That's less than 3% - much more production variability from one car to the next than that much, I would think...

BMW M GmbH seems to hold out as long as they can but I am pretty sure that the next gen M5 will have AWD. If not standard, optional.

Surely it would not be of interest though for you even if it were 4 wheel drive now?. You have the Panamera.

The Panamera Turbo S is practically gone, I'm getting a 991 Turbo S instead in September/October.

It is going to be my last sedan, I'm more of a SUV + sports car guy. Smiley

Cripes, you must get severely penalised for wanting to get out of the Panamera lease deal early, if that's the case ?, mind you what do I know, I have never leased any car. The 991 TS will be a blast for sure..

Luckily I'm with Porsche Financial and they took care of everything since I lease another Porsche. I took a small hit but I also got a good (not very good though) offer for the 991 Turbo S lease, so I'm fine. It could have been much worse. Smiley I was torn between the new 991 GT3 and the new 991 Turbo S but since both lease offers are pretty close to each other (money-wise), I decided to go for the 991 Turbo S for various reasons. I wish I could own both, the GT3 and the Turbo S but this isn't possible.

We knew the turbo would always win you over. Be interesting to see how close they are around the ring. Congrats on the order, your a 911 guy for sure.

I am and I don't know why I didn't realize it earlier. It could have saved me a lot of money.

From now on, things are quite simple: Cayenne for the family and as a daily driver, 911 for me and fun weekends (incl. the family, thanks to the back seats). My wife plans to get a Boxster when her X3 35d lease runs out, she misses her former 987 S a lot, so we are going to be a three Porsche family again. Smiley

That sounds perfect! And yes, better to have a SUV, a sportscar and nimble convertible than 3 four doors with 2 SUV at the same time. Congrats to this excellent choice.

Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

    Re: BMW M5 Facelift (2013)

Guys, today I have an opportunity to exchange my 2010 997.2 Turbo with 50,000kms for a 2013 M5 Sedan with 8,000kms, what are your thoughts?  I drove the M5 today, and while it's beautiful and new (gunmetal grey color) my issue is with the grip.  You have all this power but what's the point if the traction control will keep interfering.... the ride is great, it's very luxurious, but my the grip is really bad on our shitty roads.  Meanwhile my Turbo is a beast, what is really tempting me is the good deal that's in front of me....

    Re: BMW M5 Facelift (2013)

Two different cars I'm afraid. Both have power, the 997.2 Turbo however is faster under almost all driving conditions.

So here is the question: Do you need/want comfort or do you want sportiness? If you are used to the AWD grip, you are going to miss the grip a lot since the M5 really has traction issues. I know there isn't much snow or maybe even rain in Beirut but I know the dust on the streets from the region and it can really be an issue with a powerful RWD car.

I know the offer sounds tempting but I am pretty sure you are going to miss your 911 Turbo sooner than you think.

thanks for the reply RC, I agree with you, the traction issues will be a huge problem, and as you said the dust here is really bad, it was just a great deal so I had to at least give it 5 minutes of thought hahah

Perfection can be boring and you got bored of your 997 Turbo (it happened to me too and now I miss the car). Smiley
