    Strut Braces

    Does anyone have experience with strut braces on 997's ?

    Not yet, but I have ordered a Techart strut brace for my forthcoming C4S. Will report back in due course.

    I think the 996 and newer cars do not benefit from them...

    I don't know yet if the 997 will benefit from a strut brace as I have yet to take delivery of my car, but it has always been my habit to fit brace(s) to my cars and I certainly will be happier if my C4S is braced.

    I admit I am anal when it comes to chassis rigidity: my Mini Cooper S has front upper strut brace, front lower brace, and rear upper brace, plus extra welding. The car certainly drives better, the steering feels sharper and appears more accurate. Ditto my E46 M3.

    I had a Techart front strut brace fitted to my 997 C4S last week and this has sharpened the steering. When going round hairpins I can place the front end of the car more accurately. I much prefer the improved steering feel of the car.

    I added one to a much earlier 911 that I had and it had a profound difference,--especially as that car was getting up there in the miles. Reserving judgement on the need for one in the 997.

    I'd be interested in a picture if you have it. Does it fit under all the platic covers?

    The brace sits across the front strut towers, underneath the plastic cover, thus a photo will not show much.

    The Techart brace cost me 280 Euro.

    All 996s and I'm sure all 997s already have a strut brace right from the factory. Absolutely zero need for one on these cars. The factory piece is hidden behind the plastic. It's also the same exact one used on the 996 Cup cars, that's right they use the stock brace.
