PCCB - not a cool option

This is regarding my Cayenne TT'12.  PCCB - a $10k option that is advertized almost as lifetime investment with superior breaking and reduced weight.

I had a problem with vibration on breaking - the steering wheel would vibrate.  Got the front breaks replaced and was the happiest camper...

I have 12K km on the odometer and now my front breaks are starting to squeek.  My friend at the service told me - we checked them there is some overheating damage, but overall the breaks look ok. And yes, they are PCCBs-they always squeek.  WTF? Is this true? Do you pay $10k extra to sound like a schoolbus at the stop signs?

And what overheating? Weren't PCCBs supposed to be ok with "overheating"? I never tracked the car, never took it to insane speeds or applied breaks like a madman... What do you guys think?  Are they trying to cheap out of replacing the breaks under the warranty?

Never heard of PCCB overheating. Yes, PCCB is not really track ready since the wear is much higher than advertised and you pay a lot of money for replacement but since you haven't track raced your Cayenne, I think that the dealer kind of wants to BS you. Squeaking? Well...yes but there are some measures which can be applied to reduce squeaking, incl. using different brake pads (not sure about the Cayenne though).

Have you tried a different dealer or is that a problem (distance)?

Re: PCCB - not a cool option

Stomp on them hard a few times to better seat the pads and the squeeking will go away.  Rotors and pads should last the life of the car even the Cayenne is used on the street.

Pads too?  I never heard that...

Re: PCCB - not a cool option

I drove my S (2005) with PCCB very hard on the street - after 9 years and 70K+ miles no noticable wear on the pads (70% left) or Rotors (100% left).  When they made noise (rarely) I simply made a few quick stops. The dealers service advisor said the pads and rotors would likely last the life of the car at that rate.

Re: PCCB - not a cool option

Is the fact that PCCB always squeek truth?

I will follow your advice to break hard a few times, will post here the results.

So far I had no problem with my dealer... They always did the top job... That is why I find it very strange that they tell me that the breaks have overheating damage. Should I request the front break exchange?

Re: PCCB - not a cool option

Mine squeaks maybe like 5 times in the year I have owned  the Turbo S. Always and only in the morning when I back out of the garage.

Re: PCCB - not a cool option

Yes, occasional squeaking is OK but not all the time.

Speaking of pads: I usually replace pads on my Porsche every 10-15k km, no matter if PCCB or not.

Re: PCCB - not a cool option

I replaced the pads after 30,000 miles on my 997 Turbo, '06 car fitted with PCCB. Rears occassionaly squeek when cold.

My GT2 997 '09 car with PCCB has never squeeked.

For me they are the best brakes ever and I have also driven a GT2RS on Silverstone full GP Circuit for about 4 hours of performance driving, no squeeks but they did start to fade a little toward the end.

I would have had them again 'tomorrow' on a Cayenne Turbo S - but not going to happen.

Re: PCCB - not a cool option

My cayenne turbo wls 2013 on normal brake squeek as hell Pz is unable to help my. Very disapointed in that.

by the way my 997 gt2 on ceramic doesnt squeek at all..
