    Silicone Spray!

Can anyone recommend a good brand that can be purchased easily and can be pinpointed (like a WD40 can with the straw) for those irritable squeaks and creeks?

I googled it and all kinds came up including this from the online rubber and fetish shop:

    Re: Silicone Spray!

    Try Astroglide. Works wonders.

    Re: Silicone Spray!

Keep me abreast of the situation!

    Re: Silicone Spray!

    Prefer 'jugs' to spray!

    Re: Silicone Spray!

Check out "Sail Kote" better than silicone.

What kind of creaks and squeaks are you talking about? I'm wondering if this or even WD-40 would work for the noises from my rear window area. The dealer has tried numberous times to insulate it but has thus far failed to fix the prob.

    Re: Silicone Spray!

I'd be worried that WD 40 will stain and possibly degrade some materials.

The thing about Sail Kote is you can spray it on synthetic sail fabrics fibers and metals and rubbers and it will NOT mess them up. Perfect for the shotgun approach to squeek and creek reduction.

    Re: Silicone Spray!

Do not use WD40, it is not a lubricant!!! Only use it to loosen rusty nuts and bolts.

I have had the same problem, and after several attempts to fix it, the squeak just won't go away. It's more of a creaking sound as if the rear glass is moving and rubbing against the body of the car.

    Consider dry film lube, instead.

Silicone lube tends to migrate around, I don't think that would be good.

I use Sandstrom's CP-200 dry film lube, it's for locks, but I use it on my Porsche locks and Corrado spoiler pistons, and it works great. Doesn't migrate, either, nor pick up dust.

You might call and ask what's best for your application, they've got lots of stuff, including MIL-SPEC:

    WHY NOT WD40?

WD stands for Water Displacing. It's better thought of a penetrating fluid - corrosion resistor than a lubricator. Here's a list of the uses:

It also migrates, which is not something I'd want to use in an interior.

WD40 isGood stuff for lots of situations but not ALL situations.

It may attack rubber and leave a residue. There's other more modern formulations of latest-technology lubricants that might be better for interior materials of the car.

Around the rear right window, plus other spots. Silicone is what the dealer has used before. I'll probably just see what Pep Boys has. Thanks.

    Re: Silicone Spray!

Talk about attacking rubber...silicone is awful if it contacts rubber, plastic and paint.

Why do they recommend it for Dive suits and equipment then?

    SrfCity, Any luck with this?

Yea, it seemed to work great. I got the Vavoline brand and can't remember what it's called. I carry the can around with the little straw and shoot a spot if need be and then whipe the excess with a cloth. It seems to be the answer.

Yes. I believe that creeks and squeaks can come from a number of areas so the silicone really helps to eliminate them. I sprayed it under the rubber molding around the lower side and rear windows and that seemed to do the trick for now. I need more road time to see if it's really gone.
