    PSE always on mod

I had been following the thread on whether PSE mods damage the PSE. Not sure if it does or not, still waiting for some more info or conclusive proof that mods are not a good thing to do. So, right now I have everything stock. However, I did temporarily disconnect the electric plug. The car, of course sounds great always on. In fact, is it just me or is it actually much louder doing the mod than when you just press the sport button without the mod (not taking the cutout into consideration). Even when the stock condition is not in the cut out period, its not as loud as when the mod is in effect. Would love to hear the reason Porsche put that cut-out into effect because the always on sounds 100% better.

    Re: PSE always on mod

the Porsche Sport Exhaust is that way to comply with European noise regulations. Do the bypass/always on change (mine is done by disconnecting and plugging the vacuum hose)--as for "damaging" the system, I don't see how that is even possible. The always open position is it's natural state--the vacuum actuator closes it down. What's to damage?

    Re: PSE always on mod

I think when the pse is ON, there is a "residual pressure" in the system, this maintain the flaps.
But when you disconnect the vacuum hose...no pressure... and may provoque bad vibration in the flaps...

    Re: PSE always on mod

So.. is it safe to say that the electrical disconnect mod is better than the vacuum disconnect mod?

    Re: PSE always on mod

NO IN MY OPINION ITS THE SAME

    IF

it makes the PSE work between the cut-off then it over pressures it,,so its will be damagged , sooner or later

    Re: PSE always on mod

the only thing you might damage are your ears

maybe we should also consider the damage caused by a loose electrical connector or vacuum hose in the engine compartment? this might scratch or wear on other components around the engine. oooh, scary!

Obviously, I have no idea whether this is correct or not, but if you are right, it's a crap design. I wish I could get my hands on a cutaway of the design and the schematics. Aren't any of the members of this forum affiliated with Porsche that might be able to 'leak' the real info on this question? We won't tell on ya, promise

    Re: PSE always on mod

Hey...nobody commented on my observation about loudness...mine sounds to me to be much louder with the mod than without. Does anyone concure?

    Re: PSE always on mod

Flap - perhaps the reason the PSE sounds louder with the mod is because you're hearing it while stationary, whereas without the mod, you're on the road? Just a theory.

BTW, I have PSE and I've chosen not to do the mod, because I'm afraid I'd be damaging something by disconnecting a vacuum or an electrical hose. Probably over-paranoia on my part but that's the way it is. Maybe a part of me prefers turning it on when I want to. Plus, I have a feeling that if I left it 'on' all the time, it'd be like eating chocalate 24/7. Anyone hear what I'm saying?

Having said that, rarely do I drive without pressing the 'Sport' button, thus rarely do I drive without the PSE being 'on.'

    Re: PSE always on mod

Patriot, I am one of those guys that can't tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi, subtle differences usually escape me, but I am absolutely sure it is louder. I kind of think that what ever occurs with the mod is what eventually happens to the PSE system after several thousand miles. Many posts on here reported that it gets louder over time. I suspect that the standard (unmodified) PSE doesn't 'open-up' as much as when modified. Pure speculation on my part not having the Porsche diagrams to look at. Pull the plug and drive around the block, you'll see what I mean. I don't think half a mile will cause you any permanent damage. Just be warned, the stock sound will sound weak in comparison.

    Re: PSE always on mod

The dealer here knows about the mod and offered to do it. If anything were to break, it has a 5 year warranty. So either way I don't need to worry about cost

Yes, obviously it is louder. There is no cut-off anymore...

    Re: PSE always on mod

flap indeed the PSE with the mod is louder not only the cut-off BUT in full rev range...

dont know the explanation on this one but as i had the mod for over 6 months i can surely say that the stock PSE on is quiter than the PSE modified and not only during the cut-off range

    Re: PSE always on mod

Agree absolutely that the mod is louder across whole rev range .......my compromise is to unplug the electrical connection for weekend driving, but use the standard PSE for weekday commuting

    Re: PSE always on mod

Dilinger and Spindar, thanks for confirming my suspicion...I thought so. The mod version is definitly the way Porsche should have designed it.

    Re: PSE always on mod

Interesting. Unplug the darn thing and it's louder? Odd.

You've got it. Louder, better sounding, worth the price of admission, none of that silly European "oh-oh its tooooo loud" for civilization, muffled partially on/partially off crap. (Sorry for the eurobash, I'm European also). Anyway, Porsche should pry the bloody flaps, or whatever they are, out of the PSE before they send it to countries that don't have silly noise restrictions. Just wish I had not read the warnings about the mod, in another thread, causing (possibly) some nasty future rattling sounds. Porsche needs to design things properly because when the engineers unplugged the plug, and you know they did, and realized it sounds way better, they must have known we would try it too. Anyone think I can put a broom stick up the exhaust and knock those stupid flaps out?
