    Futch,

I assume that this is your car in the Chris Harris video then?

    That is my car yesSmiley

I'm picking it up hopefully sometime this week. First driving impressions soon.

Chris Harris' video should be online on Pistonheads soon too.

    Re: Singer!

CHRIS HARRIS VIDEO: "THE SINGER 911"

Chris Harris's first video for 2013 and he's setting the bar pretty high with a drive in the fabulous Singer 911

"Dan asked me to write something substantial about the Singer, which was a good idea because for many of us the Singer project embodies everything we love about cars. It's a project driven by passion and obsession and through it you uncover the fanatical levels of knowledge lurking within people like Rob Dickenson, the man whose vision became the car.

All the best bits of the 911, wrapped up in one

The problem with writing a long story is that it does seem a little bit unnecessary when we've just produced a 25-minute video on the car. We tried to cut it back and give the usual 12 minutes, but the footage was too good - the narrative behind the car's creation was too compelling.

We spent a few days with the team and I came away wanting to give up what I do and join the Singer mission. If they come across as just the type of people you'd like to knock about with, then the video has succeeded.

There was a classic moment when we were shooting the walk-around with Maz explaining the technical side of the car and you can just spot Rob lurking in the background. He scuttles off with some rags. To clean his 17-inch wheels. He couldn't stand the way the grime was dulling the light on them, so he just rolled his office chair into the workshop and started polishing them. And this wasn't sickly preciousness. At the circuit he just told me to drive the danglies off it and stood there with a Bisto kid grin and drank in the spectacle.

Unashamed passion and geekery in action

I hope this video gives a real insight into the quality of the car and the depth of engineering within it, because all too often this type of machine is featured in car magazines and the suspicion is that the appeal is only superficial and done to look good on paper to snag extra sales. The Singer is built like an expensive racing car.

Enough from me. Please watch the video and enjoy what is now on my motor car bucket list."

"To some people, mainly Porsche people, this is the most desirable car you could own. Its creators are a bunch of zany, brilliant Porsche-files who have invested their lives in re-imagining the classic Porsche 911 shape for the year 2013. We tour the factory, speak to the team and drive it on road and track..." -- Chris Harris

...thanks again to Chris Harris and congratulations Futch!

    Absolutely not!Smiley

Very cool video, I discovered it last night, thanks for posting!

I might drive the F1 this afternoon, it's freezing but it's dry, after it only gets worse.

Break in??? You mean, the car doesn't have a key and I have to break into it to get in?Smiley

No seriously the engines are broken in before assembly and you can see CH breaking in the car on the twisty roads before the track so I'm cool. No worries. I've never broken in any of my cars and they all run sweetly.

Only lately the M3 CRT is giving me a hard time with its oil level.

The man has a point! So much 'want' it hurts! Actually wondering what makes me happiest, a warm and comfortable house, or a sleeping bag and a Singer. Leaning towards the latter. Smiley

    Re: Singer!

just finished watching the video - simply wow ! Pls post yr impressions - this is utterly exciting ! CH is amazing again of passing the message what these cars are all about ! wink

Actually boys, it deserves a more accurate quote: "It oozes levels of undiluted want.  Dangerous levels of the stuff actually..."

That's actually a quote worthy of one of those books on ...quotes!

And Porker - who needs the sleeping bag - the heater has been upgraded!

Many congrats - I would be most interested to hear how you would compare the drive feel to a GT3 or GT3 RS. It is so amazing to see how they craft these cars. With utmost precision. Very nice Smiley The question is: how close can they get to Porsche in terms of setup etc. I am so interested to read your driving impressions SmileySmileySmiley

    Re: Singer!

Love the car but struggle with the engine sound. It somehow it does not fit. I guess it is do to the GT3 crank which also goes a bit the mantra of "the best of the air cooled cars". A more classic RSR sound would have been more fitting. otherwise great car and thanks for allowing Harris to do this great test

     Will do Markus!Smiley

It's snowing now in the UK for a few days so not the best time. As soon as the weather permits, I will drive it.

    Re: Singer!

Is it actually possible to have the same treatment done as they did with the Singer-engine directly at Cosworth?

    Re: Singer!

Slightly off-topic: A couple of years ago, I met a guy with a 964 with 993 Turbo technology (only the body was 964, the adaptation was almost perfect, it looked more like a 964 RS rather than 964 Turbo). Since then, I was so fascinated with having a "classic" Porsche with modern technology.

I am so curious about Futch's driving experience with the Singer, can't wait to read it. Oh...also lots photos please. smiley
