I was playing ball with my dog and it the rolled underneath my 2011 Carrera GTS. My son retrieved the ball and said that, whilst under the car, he noticed that the bolts holding the exhaust were badly corroded and flaking off!!
Upon closer inspection, the bolts are in a very bad condition and appear as though they will fail sometime soon!!
Is this something that can be corrected under warranty?
Why aren't the bolts made from stainless steel in the first place - very disappointing...
Exhaust bolts, exhaust pipes...apparently the quality is quite questionable because it seems to happen on many cars.
I wanted to exchange the exhaust pipes on my Panamera Turbo S for the sport pipes (they need to be cut off since they are not bolted on) and my dealer suggested to wait until the first corrosion starts because it is common.
This is very strange because, with all my previous P-cars over the past 35 years, I've never been aware of corroding exhaust bolts!!
If it is so common why have none ever failed - even on my other cars, or my wife's cars, not one case of exhaust problems...
I will be taking the GTS to my OPC next week for a full check... prior to a long road trip. Will let you know the outcome.
Hi John
same thing on our 997. Even the scavenging oil pumps on the aft end if the cylinder heads are showing heavy corrosion, although it takes very little metal loss to create a lot of rust! Ours has just had the 4 year service, and I did ask them to look at this corrosion and the report back was that it is normal and not a cause for concern. Of course all the exhaust components are excluded from the extended warranty........
The car has also developed a really irritating buzzing rattle in the instrument cluster, rather than another trip to the dealer I fixed that by folding up a piece of thick paper and wedging it between the top of the temp / fuel gauge and the underside of the binnacle which cured it. Amazing, our 25,000 mile Porsche had more rattles than my 37,000 mile Toyota....
