The secret cars of the Porsche Museum

The secret storage of the Porsche Museum got a new home - the cars moved from an  underground car park  to an old factory near by the Museum.

    Very interesting !! Smiley

Re: The secret cars of the Porsche Museum

Very cool and very good idea from Porsche to preserve these beautiful cars.. the very first 930 Turbo is stunning angel

Also, the red tractor seen at 1:30 was for sale in the dealer showroom at just 16,000 EUR. Guess no one purchased it.

Re: The secret cars of the Porsche Museum

I am sad that some of their modern cars have less charisma than the red tractor.

That´s awesome. Thanks for the link. Some of those cars are even new to me, such as the bulletproof 996.

Those were the cars that were parked in the internal parking lot of the Porsche museum, outside, last year:

Re: The secret cars of the Porsche Museum

In Part 2 there is a cabrio 928 that looks great even today. Why did Porsche pass it by then? What a missed opportunity to take on the contemporary Mercedes SL models.

What is amazing about the 930 Turbo of Louise Piech is that it is a narrow body !

The special 928 is very interesting - this is not the Ferry Porsche 75. Birthday car with the long wheelbase.

This is one of 2 prototyps from 1987 - with aditional backdoors.

It´s funny to see how much possible variants could´ve extracted out of the 928 for example. Especially the convertible looks indeed great.

I was so stunned to see what Porsche has to park on the lot since both museum and workshop are full. Some other car companies barely have as much heritage like those six cars outside.

Short report from Porsche Classic - my car is there for a regular service:

The work shop is now for 3 years in an old factory building at Freiberg am Neckar. In 2014 they will move again to Werk 1 in Zuffenhausen. Their workshop in the oldest part of the porsche factory will be build completely new.

Right now the workshop is very unattractiv and small – they have a staff of about 20 people, 2 of them are working only on 959s. At the time of my visit  twelve  959s were waiting for service or repairs… They also do repairs on the museum cars, f.e. the 356 SL from LeMans was involved in an transportation-accident. The damage is about 100.000 EUR.  The famous 550 Panamericana was standing in a dirty corner.

For customers they work on Porsche cars including the 993, but they also do the repairs on press cars, f.e. there was an GT3 RS 4.0 with a accident.

    Here some crappy iPhone pics:

    Hi Blueflame

thank you for the nice report. The setup of the new Porsche Classic facility will be a very interesting one.

Servicing and restoration of classic Porsches or modern classics will be addressed  also at the dealership level and represents (as far as I have heard) a priority for Porsche.

I have also recently visited the Museum and among my favourite cars was this G 911 3.2 that belonged to F.A. Porsche. Paint to Sample color ( I don`t remember the name though)  and horse leather interior.

Blueflame, thank you for the pictures! I had no idea you owned a 964 RS, stunning example it seems. wink

Re: The secret cars of the Porsche Museum

@blueflame: thanks for your account of the Porsche Classic visit, although to its temporary location.

You are very privileged to be in a position to have your RS serviced there. I've been to the original location in Zuffenhausen and it had that air of history around it. I remember there was an immaculate red 904 GTS being serviced on that day, among other more recent cars like a fully stripped down 928.

Have a look in the underground parking of the museum at Level -2. There are some cars of the museum - I have seen a 993 Targa in Azure Blue/Azurro California... :-)   and a narrow ´89 Speedster in dark green - very rare cars.

BTW - I have my RS since 1994 - the first years it was serviced at my OPC - now it is for the fourth time at Porsche Classic. I will collect my car from them end of next week - may be a next chance for the "hidden camera". Smiley

I did not check level -2, do you have a picture of that 993 Targa? The  '89 Schmal Speedster in dark green I saw last year, is very very special indeed. Did you see the SC RS parked in the -1? That's also an ultra rare 911 (21 made).

You are very lucky to own one of the best 911 ever made. My favourite ones are the 2.7 RS and the 964 RS like yours. What color is it? Polar silver or Silver Metallic? I am not able to understand from the picture.

Servicing classics and modern classics requires great knowledge and experience and I understand you  are driving your 911 in the proper place Smiley

Please post more pictures after next visitSmiley

+1  Mercedes Museum is great.  You can visit the Sinsheim Technik Museum as well, not far from Stuttgart (45 min drive) . They have nice cars , planes etc. Molto bello ne vale pena. Ciao
