Re: New 991 Carrera 4/4S Coupe/Cabriolet Official Information

The 991 C4 looks good, but it really is a shame the direction Porsche is taking. On the web special, all they do is brag about the luxury, and stupid acronyms like PTV, PDK, PDCC, that all mean nothing, and there are absolutely no technical diagrams at all, like there used to be on all of their old web specials. And on old web specials they would brag how you can still get it with a pure, natural manual, now it's almost like they assume everyone will buy a PDK. And the auto throttle blip is BS.

Agree Smiley It is clearly heading for a luxury direction, rather than pure driver's car. I guess they save that for the 'softer' GT3 which will be as involving to drive as a bog standard 993...

Whats with the brown color on the press photos..

Looks like they have too much spare paint left after all those brown tuaregs they have pushed out off late...

I know its not a GT3, but even then, is it still a sportscar or what?

The Deluxe Brown Metallic is there to attract a certain age group. Clearly you are way too young for it Smiley

The new yellow is actually really nice and sporty in real life. Dave and I saw a few at Spa. Beautiful, aggressive and not so much Postauto anymore Smiley

Amen! 18 till I die, brother! wink

Agreed, yellow looks very nice indeed.. But I guess one would need PCCBs with it? cos red calipers would look odd.. actually black  or dark blue calipers would suit, if that option were available

+1.  My personal favourites (not) are ACC (Active Cruise Control) and, I think, PAS (Porsche Active Safe).  At this rate, the next model will do away with the driver completely and drive itself.  Smiley  Maybe I'm just a dinosaur, but I miss sports cars which were engaging - and challenging - to drive.  Oh well, I guess we can always buy the older models - a 997 GT3 is starting to look more attractive every day.

It's just the rear wheel arches which are wider.

is the rear track on the C4/C4S also wider ?

I guess the red line on the C4S is more parallel to the body than the C2S

Draw the same line, but this time extend it from the rear wheel arch (as you have done above) to the center of the front wheel arch. You will see a much larger difference.

Re: New 991 Carrera 4/4S Coupe/Cabriolet Official Information

You don't even have to draw a line. The panel gap on the 4S rear wheel arch is clearly visible and give away that it is wider... plus it looks wider indecision

The pictures are taken at a slightly different angle, so in horizontal direction things may shift a bit. Resized both pics so front and back line up.

Re: New 991 Carrera 4/4S Coupe/Cabriolet Official Information

Is there any practical benefit with the wider rear?

The narrow body models, (which are not narrow body at all since the 997) have no problem with the stability and grip of the rear part but rather with the front part understeering (which had been improved on the 991).

Besides the wide rear necessitates 305 width tyres which are unnecessary and perhaps counterproductive on the Carrera models. Even the normal 295 are too wide for practical reasons especially in the rain.

I've always liked the 996 narrow body AWD Carrera. But since the 997 Porsche want to differentiate their 2 and 4 models visually with the wider rear and recently this fancy strip yes

Good question. I have been wondering this too.

Cost effectiveness vs practical benefit seems a bit off, but maybe I am missing something.

I' m with you on that. Unless a wider body is needed ( like on the Turbo ) I do prefer the narrower  body on the Carrera .  No need to add what looks like weight ( even if it does not really make a big difference ) . It's more the fact that the wide body becomes more of a mimic . It  does not help .

Personally I like them low and wide.

Re: New 991 Carrera 4/4S Coupe/Cabriolet Official Information

Carrera 4 models are powered by a 3.4 litre engine which develops 350 hp, while the 4S models house a 3.8 litre, 400 hp power plant.

Pricing for the new all-wheel drive 911 Carrera models is as follows:

    911 Carrera 4 Coupé £77,924.00 (inc. VAT at 20%)
    911 Carrera 4S Coupé £87,959.00 (inc. VAT at 20%)

well what do I get more on the S model for 12300 € (w.o VAT) apart from the 20 inch wheels & the xtra power ?

you will say the fun ?? but @ 0.3 sec difference ??

your opinions welcome, I am in the market  :-)))))))

Re: New 991 Carrera 4/4S Coupe/Cabriolet Official Information

......"The new all-wheel drive models replace a very successful previous generation, of which a total of about 24,000 units have been sold since 2008. This represents a 34 per cent share of total sales of second generation 997 models.".......

Interesting statistic...I had no idea that some many "4's" were sold!

My 991S Cab has the optional 20 inch Sport Techno wheels which are 9" wide in the front and 11.5" in the rear. The rear tires are 305's. So, you don't have to get a widebody to get the 305 tires.
