Audi wins Spa 24 H

Audi won the Spa 24 Hour race today with the R8 LMS. This completes a unique hat-trick by winning the three endurance classics of Spa, Nurburgring and Le Mans in 2012.

BTW, Audi also won the main Australian endurance race, the Bathurst 12 Hours in February this year.

Audi are doing an excellent job enhancing their Motorsport reputation that greatly helps their overall image. These competitions used to be Porsche's own domain in the past. What a decadence for the once major name in Sportscar/GT racing.

What a race!!! What a race!!!

We started 50th and finished 18th! 12th in class. Unbelievable since it was our first 24h race!

For me, first time in the car and this track!

It was mind-blowing! The track, the 458, the pros going sooooo fast, the night, the torrential rain, sensory overload! Slept 2 hours in 24h. AF Corse was amazing, what a team, the factory was there with Michelotto too and were delighted for us, really cool guys. AF also won the Pro AM category! Smiley

PORKER! It was great to finally meet you amigo! See you on the Nordschleife!

I have a lot of respect for Sportscar racing and the drivers, especially the endurance races are so hard. And yet F1 steals the limelight. yes

Finally found some time to write down a couple of my impressions as well. At the very last moment I decided to visit the 24h of Spa, regardless of the torrential downpours, I'd contacted Futch who was so kind to receive me and a friend of mine at the AF-Corse facilities. I can't thank you enough, it was fantastic to get an inside view of this event. I met up with Futch only an hour before he was due to take the wheel, yet still he found the calmth to take us for a bite and a drink, I'd have had trembling knees in his place. At 9pm he took the wheel, just when the rain came pouring down, racing at Spa is not for the faint hearted.

Congratulations on the fantastic result, and we'll arrange that Nordschleife week-end shortly, you'll love it there! wink

Thank you Ducky. Needless to say, I shat myself on several occasion, the raidillon at night in torrential rain is a rather interesting experience.

Endurance racing is not only about lap times, but consistency, realiability and most of all, no mistakes!

We are the proof it works, our laptimes were mediocre but not a single mistake, excellent teamwork from AF Corse and we finish almost in the top 10! Unbelievable!

Thanks guys. No, only four amateurs in the car actually, but we were in Pro/am category because the car is a 2012.

Actually, in the gentlemen category, we would have been P2 and on the podium. Smiley

Next steps for me definitely include more driving, that's the key really. A better feeling of the available grip and just be more sensitive with the brake and gas pedal.

Oh and also buy a bigger pair of balls to pass Raidillon and Blanchimont without braking.

Indeed. Am actually surprised how challenging the conditions were. Didn´t watch the race but have to say that it is really a great achievement to bring the car over the finish line after 24 hours like that!
