Regarding price difference between 458 and R8 V10 plus it is with same equipment at least 50K € in Germany. R8 V10 plus standard equipment is CF front spoiler, rear diffusor, engine bay trim and interior trim. All these items cost a small fortune on 458. Buckets are also standard, as is a Navigation. Full LED front lights are standard(AFL Bixenons are optional on 458).
458 that was used for Sport Auto Supertest costed almost 240K € with all CF items etc.
You simply can not compare R8 V10, even in plus version against 458, MP4-12C or SLS AMG GT. They are much, much more expensive. So, for that extra amount of cash you expect slightly better performance level.
R8 is(and always was) positioned as 911 alternative for those that want midengine sportscar, but are not willing to pay for above 200K €(again, German prices) for it.
Personally, I am very, very tempted by R8 V10 plus. Just... IF I can get 991 Turbo(or even 991 GT3 with PDK) for the same money I will go for Porsche.

What I mean is without that much expensive carbon, the price difference between 458 and R8 V10 plus in not that much. Besides, the new Gallardo is just around the corner. So in a year, R8 platform will be old.
What car do you have now? I thought you bought an SLS.
