    Panamera estate

I've just received my usual weekly email from Autocar magazine ahead of tomorrow's issue and there will be a feature on a Panamera estate concept which they say is set to be shown at Paris.

Great idea! New details to add to my 'final' plans.

A few or more might already consider me to be Rennteam's King of Bad Taste, but considering the look of the Panamera from the windshield back; I think that this would be a big improvement.

    Re: Panamera estate

Makes sense. Looks great. Please build it.kiss Just charge a lot more for it.blush

Actually considering the Porsche already has 1 SUV, 1 due in the future, and a bloated sedan, it can't really get too much worse.

And actually, I think a Panamera Estate would be a million times better than the ugly bloated coupe. Bring it on!

    Re: Panamera estate

the panamera's shape makes much more sense, and would be more cohesive, as an estate

    Re: Panamera estate

It looks like a modern american wagon should, a rounded dodge magnum. That was it's true calling.

Concept? Maybe. I doubt however that they are going to build it.

A stronger Diesel has priority right now and it will be available sooner or later.

The estate, station wagon or whatever may be presented as a concept but I think that Porsche is fishing in dangerous waters if they really do it.

A Coupe would make much more sense but I guess we will see the Coupe with the next mixed Bentley/Panamera platform.

I already can imagine a funeral car made on that base.... yes

    Re: Panamera estate

Just making the back 2 seats into a bench for 3 passengers would more than double sales IMO (or is it only in SA that there's no option for this?)

It's the same worldwide . They could not fit 3 seats as  the drive train is in the middle , high up, so the car could be lower .

But I fully agree , 3 back seats would be better .

They should put the engine in the front, along with a VW badge*.

I hope they don`t make it and they focus their talent and resources on something more meaningful for the Brand.

I think it looks awesome. I think this is what it was meant to be. Sports car performance, family car capacity.

Is that a render or what ???

    Re: Panamera estate

Good idea but in the picture it looks too ordinary, like a Peugeot or a Volvo. I hope it is just a renderIng.

    Re: Panamera estate

It's a render, unless it's already real broken heart You never know with Porsche.. the 918 for example looks finalized even in mule testing form..

A stronger Diesel should have been offered from the get-go.. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that they didn't offer the V12 TDI from Audi.. It's such a cool idea! If you are going to do diesels in a Porsche, at least make them crazy powerful.

    Re: Panamera estate

I think VW want the Porsche top performers to be petrol turbos and the top Audi to be very powerful diesels as per the Le Mans connection.

Of course this is a rendering. A possible "estate" or station wagon won't be available for this model, not even sure if the facelift will get one because the next generation Panamera, using a common platform with the next generation Bentley, will be around earlier than many think (2015?).

So while it is possible that Porsche shows an "estate" concept car at a car show, personally I think that it would be a mistake or not even very likely. I just hope I am right. Smiley

    Re: Panamera estate

...an estate version at this point in time would at least jeopardize the other brands within the VW-group and IMO would clearly give the wrong signal as a firm, because Porsche is supposed to build sportcars and not sportive cars. Though, one never knows - I just thought about the AUDI RS 2 of the 90s (ok, different situation Porsche was in at that time).

It is, the picture was taken of a regular Panamera and is available on the internet as well. This is just a Photoshop rendering and herein lies the catch... the way the surfaces flow around the back as well as the third side window (behind the c-pillar) this particular car would look very odd in reality. Since the camera angle is deceiving, it would also look huge in reality.

    Re: Panamera estate

    Ahh ok Thanks :-)

    Re: Panamera estate

If Porsche does an Estate it shouldn't be a straightforward Avant by Porsche. It should have a different unique style as the M-B Shooting Brake has. I don't like the Mercedes SB but it is removed from any other normal Estate so it offers something totally different.

Very good observation - it's like one of those optical illusion paintings by Escher.  Impossible in reality.

Agree - There seem to be a trend coming with these coupe estates. Ferrari FF, MB Shooting Brake, etc.
