    2012 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

Just a few days till the next race in Hungary.

I expect that Renault's engine mapping technique for creating downforce will be outlawed very soon so that RBR will lose the advantage that they had in Hockenheim.

As far as the title is concerned, it's amazing that Alonso has quite a healthy points lead, even though he has usually not had the fastest car on any race weekend. He is clearly much better at adapting to the constantly changing situation in each race, he is managing his tyres better and is proving tactically smarter.

Vettel's main concern seems to be that he is not getting 100% from the car and the situation even though the RBR is probably the fastest car right now.

I see this season becoming a straight fight between Alonso and Vettel since Hamilton has now become inconsistent and McLaren's performance is not consistently good enough.

    You are discounting Webber?

Yes, I don't think Webber will be able to maintain a consistent challenge for the rest of the season ... he is like Button ... they both have good and bad days usually because they have tyre issues and do not know how to address them if the temperature and weather are not favourable ...

Re: 2012 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

Chances for title: Alonso 55%, Vettel 35%, Hamilton 10%.

Unless, RBR come with a very strong car advantage over the next part of the season so as to negate the Alonso effect. Doubtful as all their liitle tricks are gradually outlawed.

Re: 2012 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

I don't think that Renault engine mapping created such advantage. RBR advantage was minimal in Germany and that's only where the issue was raised. On previous venues everything was fine and we can argue that RB performed even better. Renault did this change just to offset the wet weather drivability and it was clearly stated even in post-practice team comments.

Interesting fight in prospect although it;s gonna be very difficult to beat Alonso.

Superb drive from Hamilton but the Lotus cars looked very quick.

Re: 2012 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

Its back to reality for Ferrari!! their car is a tub on wheels on the dry and is not on the same level that Lotus, Mclaren and RBR  They have some serious work to do over the summer... if they don't fix this by then, then IMO they won't be able to at all this season, and their chances at the championship will depend on how well Alonso will be able to minimize the loss of points to his rivals along the remaining races and if one of his rivals is able to consistently score wins instead of the points being distributed over several drivers.

Alonso got lucky to get his Ferrari in 5th instead of 7th or worse, which is what that car actually deserved. On top of it he was lucky that Vettel only managed to finish 4th inspite the RBR's race pace, and Webber finished even behind Alonso. No wonder Alonso was so happy after the race, besides being his birthday

Great drive by  Hamilton, no mistakes (wel almost, he almost blew it on the first corner) if only he had the ability to se consistent.

Seems like when its hot and dry, not only the McLarens gain some pace, the Lotus do exceptionally well. A good drive by Kimi but also very mature drive bry Gros who managed his tires very well till the end of the race.

RBR seems to have the overall most consistent car across tracks and conditions and clearly the fastest in the dry, while the Ferrari can only hang with the others in race pace when its cool or wet.

Honestly this is getting ridiculous, did they hire Ron Dennis or something? how many times have they been caught cheeting this season? drilling holes on floor = illegal, drilling holes on wheels = illegal, changing the engine mapping = morally ilegal, and now manually being able to change the suspension = illegal... and now we are going to believe Horner that its there but they never used it? yeah right!  1325269639981rolleyes.gif

One can only admire their creativity. Cheating, no, I would say being the wisest of all...

Re: 2012 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

Creativety is when you create something that is so completely new that is not even contemplated in the rule book or when you create something that is but does not contravene the spirit with which the rule was written.

Trying to exploit loopwholes in the mere wording of the rules knowingly against the clear intentions of the rules to escape penalty and have an edge over those that aren't is... cheating Smiley

Re: 2012 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

You've got it wrong, man. if the rules are there to be followed blindly then all cars would look the same. There is no place for stupid opportunists in this sport, and everyone is trying to bend them. The problem is, that RB seem to have the most creative personnel that could make beautiful machines even from very stringent rule-book. And envy is of course their enemy now, in the paddock, but also on web-forums... Suddenly everyone is expert and knows exactly what a rule mean and suppose to mean and those that work  in F1 for years are just crooks and shameless people...

Sure creative in finding a way to bypass the spirit of the rules while avoiding penalty, its not rocket science to see how the engine re-mapping was deliberately cheating by not playing by the same rulebook as everybody else but avoided penalty because of a loophole. Its not the engineers who are being creative, its their lawyers Smiley

Brawn's rear diffuser, that was creative. RBR's blow diffuser, that was creative. McLaren's F.Duct that was creative. Using a different engine mapping than everyone else by exploiting a loophole in the wording of the rule... thats not creative and is no innotation in F1, giving team orders in code so as not to get caught when they were illegal, thast not creative nor innovation. Big difference.

Post race strategy report from James Allen

    http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2012/07/how-close-lotus-came-to-winning-as-hamilton-held-on-hungary-strategy-analysis/

It's the summer break but articles still need to be written so silly rumours re Raikkonen going to Ferrari are circulating

    http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2012/07/kimi-raikkonen-and-ferrari/

I think Massa is now finished. The last race before the summer break and he comes outside the points with Alonso still scoring strongly.

Even though Alonso might like a weak team mate who will not threaten him, he would prefer a somewhat better team mate than Massa who can at least help with earning points for the Constructors' Title.

Ferrari tends to prefer experienced lieutenants (e.g. Barrichello etc) so let's see who they pick. However, I don't expect Massa's contract renewal negotiations to last too long. I would expect LCdM to say time has run out and that Massa's agent will beg for more time for Massa to improve his results. As if this will really change anything ...

I think the change will do Massa good too. Fresh start is needed for both parties.

Re: 2012 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

Yes, I agree ... Massa looks suffocated by the pressure at Ferrari. He should go somewhere where he can breathe and regroup to make the most of what he has left of his career.

Re: 2012 Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

It's only a matter of time before Red Bull get caught with their hand in the cookie jar. They have too many liberal interpretations of the rules this seasons - and these are only the manner of things that have been caught by the scrutineers. How long do you think it will be before they are caught with some sort of hidden device or aid?
