     I'm still undecided as to what configuration suits me most front engine - rear drive or rear engine - rear drive. I'm leaning towards the former, as I do enjoy cars with a mobile rear end, which tends to be a front engined characteristic.

     

    Maybe you should seriously consider a Corvette C06 . Good prices and they are proper track cars ( just change brakes + suspensions )  That car could actually give you all that you are looking for : performance, fun, very well balanced, hard core car , not much electronics , manual , very good price for what you get , lots of margin for ' tuning' , a huge engine Smiley  etc...  ( please lets put aside the '  image' as for any real car entousiast we know it is a very good sports car )

    A good friend of mine has owned many sports  cars ( Porsche, Ferrari .. up to a 458 cup that he shared last year and Corvettes , he has also done Formula car racing )  and has driven a lot at the N'Ring.  He is now buying again a Corvette ( the special edition C06 ) as he says the Corvette  is the best tool for the track if you prefer a front engined car. He is even giving up on the 458 cup ( for a few different reasons ) .

    I drove in the passenger seat of his older C06 on the N'Ring..... and that was the most impressive lap I have done as a passenger in any car on that track .

    Think about it , as you seem to want a front engined car  !

    On my way to the Corvette-dealer, can't wait to look as cool as that! Smiley

    Kidding aside, I really appreciate the Corvette, especially as a C06 Z06, but I couldn't live with the image, I'd feel like growing a mustache and wear a jeans jacket.

    Try a  Z06 ( I was referring only to that one , not the basic C06 ) , just once to see..... Smiley  and imagine you  in  a dark grey, or black, not washed for a few weeks , low springs  and  faster then the Porsche .. then the moustache and jeans jacket would no more hunt your mind Smiley.

     If you look at my friend you would never imagine he drives a Corvette ( only to the track ) as his DD is a Continental GT and he is dressed  like a banker  Smiley

    Funny enough, that`s a Chrysler Crossfire and not a Corvette. Try the C6, I´d be curious about your verdict. I find it difficult to compare with a CSL or GT3 since the car does not have the same solid feel. That might change in terms of suspension and brakes but all other controls (steering, gearbox, pedals) still have a certain indefinite feel. It´s somewhat a shame since the engineers did a great job with the available equipment.

    Well if you watch a video like this one, you wonder indeed why I would ever sell this car. I'll see what it's like with the Intrax-suspension fitted, it might well give it that extra edge I'm looking for.

    Glad it seems to work out (in the end). Shame you weren't around anymore when I got back (my fault for taking too long checking out a friend's new toy nearby)...

    Owner / mechanic told me you guys like to scare each other on test drives.

    I still haven't driven the car in the dry, so can't really comment comprehensively on the suspension yet, but I'm sure it'll leave little to be desired. The handling is race-car sharp now, no slack or hesitation whatsoever.

    It's set-up for 'Nordschleife-dry' making it quite a handful now on wet public roads, there's not enough compliance to cope with wet roads making the car pretty "snappy", but I do really adore driving it now. I might soften the dampers a little but for further road use, but for now I'm very happy with how it turned out.

    Not really I'm afraid, I tend to forget that when I'm having a good time. Smiley

    I'd recorded a couple of fragments of a friend having a go on an emtpy parking lot, the real fun however was to be had on wet asphalt. Fantastic how narrow tyres exagerate the balance and handling traits of a car.

    The CSL is currently in for cornerweighting, it should unlock the full potential of the car once the balance is completely sorted. To say I'm looking forward to the Nordschleife-season would be an understatement! wink

    The result for the cornerweighting are in, for those interested:

    1401 kgs with all fluids and half a tank of fuel, no aircon/rear seats, and rollcage fitted.

    Percentage measured with a driver weighing 83kgs:

    Front: 52% Rear: 48 %
    Diagonal: 50%-50%
    Left: 48% Right: 52%

    An update on the CSL is due! It has spent quite a lot of times in workshops lately, primarily in order to create my perfect CSL. The car has become a pretty sharp tool now, a real joy to drive. Unfortunately haven't had the time yet this season to take it out on track.

    The current modifications are as follows:

    -Supersprint stepped headers
    -Supersprint mettalic Cats
    -Supersprint mid section
    -Supersprint back box
    -Schrik 280/288 cams and Schrik rocker arms fitted
    -Intrax rose-joints
    -Intrax camber-plates
    -Intrax 1K2 "Nürburgring"-suspension
    -Reinforced subframe

    -Powerflex bushings
    -H&R spacers
    -Wiechers strutbrace
    -Wiechers half cage
    -Re-mapped by PPE @ 384bhp/411Nm

    -Cornerweighted by PPE (50:50)
    -AP-racing 6-pot front/4-pot rear

    -Pagid RS29 pads

    -Braided brake hoses
    -OMP-Corsica steering wheel

    That's the good news, now for the bad news, the car has developed an electrical glitch, it refuses to start due to a communication fault with the gearbox. Mechanics have spent countless hours looking for a solution, but the fixes are never permanent unfortunately. After a couple of starts the problem unfortunately always re-occurs. mail

    The CSL has a little brother, I've bought a BMW E30 M3 EVO1 together with a friend of mine. The car is in mint condition, will make a proper presentation when I have some decent pictures. Here's a sneak peak in the garage with its stablemates.

    Only had a short drive in it, but it confirmed all my hopes, it's so refreshing to drive a car with that level of communication and adjustable balance and handling, absolutely adore it.

    Have never driven the E30 M3, but it has always been one of my must try ones. Great addition to your garage and look forward to see if she can live up to your dreams.
