Some stats about The Bugatti Veyron

    99% are male buyers

    average age is 48

they own in average 1.5 planes, 1.2 yacht and 32 cars .  That's why Mike S does not own one yet . He still needs to get a few more cars before Smiley

Owners do an average of 1820 km a year  with their Veyron

2nd hand ones are rare. The factory has bought back 2 used cars , and sold them with a new warrantee to new customers . In both cases selling price was above 1 million €

In europe the 1st market for the car is the UK, 2. Switzerland, and 3. Germany

On another topic :  from jan 2013 do not speed over 80 km/h on our Swiss highway, or 50 in town, or 40 in 30 zone. You will get one year in prison, no probation !!! Smiley Smiley  Some of our decision making people  get pretty crazy and lost touch with reality due to pressure from some groups, completely crazy and over the top Smiley Smiley Smiley

I presume the highway limit must be on certain sectors. It can't be a blanket 80 km/h on the whole the network!!

Prison for speeding without any alcohol, drugs involved and/or hurting anybody? Ouch.

Speaking of the Veyron: Why I understand the fascination for this car and I would probably have one in my garage too...if I could afford 1.5 planes and 1.2 yachts first , I actually think that I would get a Lamborghini Aventador instead. Performance is of course not the same but I think the Aventador is more of a driver's car, costs much less and offers a unique driving experience.

Of course if I could actually afford one, I would probably use a helicopter instead.

Believe it or not, performance is not that far off. According to R&T the Aventador is only 0.1s slower to 60 and 0.2 s slower to the quarter mile compared to the Veyron!

Re: Some stats about The Bugatti Veyron

As I posted already the S1000RR is faster, more fun, and better looking, not to mention a tiny fraction of the price. The aventador is better looking and cheaper as are many others, the veyron is butt ugly. i would take what I have with an MS engine over all these any day.

The Bugatti factory though is amazing.

Actually, I prefer to have a Pagani and 599XX from Ferrari Corse Cliente.

I agree with you about the helicopter thing, though. İt is much more usable.

You are wrong: The Bugatti Veyron Super Sports does 0-200 kph in 6.7 seconds, the S1000RR in 6.9 seconds. Smiley

Yes, up to 300 kph, the S1000RR would be faster but when have you driven 188 mph lately...on a motorcycle? Or even 125 mph for that matter? I had my share of encounters with motorcycles at 188 mph and faster and all I can tell you is that I was glad to be in a car at that time.

Also, comparing a motorcycle to any car is just...well... Smiley

I can outrun any S1000 RR on the street...in my 2 ton Panamera Turbo S. Just give me some nice twists and turns or a rainy day...if you get my point.

No, comparing motorcycles to cars is not even funny.

Re: Some stats about The Bugatti Veyron

The point I am making is fun in THE REAL WORLD, at least in the US or any place on the planet that doesn't have an autobahn. All of these high speeds are illegal and will likely never be attained by anyone driving these cars, so to talk about them as if they are meaningful in a decision is ridiculous.

The BMW at 2.6X seconds 0-60 for the 2012 version and 2.7 for the 2011 version according to motorcycleusaDOTcom test

EVO magazine article -- "It will be more interesting now that the Bugatti’s launch control, having performed faultlessly to allow the Veyron to record 0-60mph in 2.8sec"

    Quarter Mile
    1986 Benetton B186 : 9.400secs (race boost 3.7 bar)
    BMW S1000RR : 9.681secs
    Bugatti Veyron SS : 9.700secs(claimed)
    Ultima GTR 720 : 9.941secs
    Bugatti Veyron : 10.500secs(Evo Test)
Bugatti Veyron : 10.100secs(Car and Driver)
Bugatti Veyron : 10.200secs(Road and Track)
    Bugatti Veyron : 10.400secs(Motor Trend)
Bugatti Veyron : 10.600secs(Road and Track)

In my drive a few weeks back I must have accelerated 10 seperate times as fast as it would go up to certain points and I can tell you that that is more exhilarating than sitting in any car and stepping on the gas. The bugatti is extremely ugly and impractical and basically only exists for speed. (not just my opinion)

FUN is the desired end result, feeling g forces, controlling power, adrenaline. The S1000RR will deliver that better than a bugatti every day a sane person wants to drive a high performance vehicle (See John H's thread for thrills in the wet). Mine never go out in the rain. In the dry I have pushed them quite a bit.

I think if you want to feel speed get the BMW, if you want to display wealth get the Bug. (maybe you should enter next years IOM TT in your panny)Smiley

It's a well known fact that a Veyron SS would outrun any superbike and that stands true for a handful of hypercars also.

Just compare their 0-200 mph times. ;)

Communist-France isn't better, I just spent 6 days there and collected a total of €857 (payable immediately in cash) in tickets + a driving ban. Afterwards my girlfriend had to take the wheel, and she didn't escape the gendarmes either, fined €90.

They're indeed losing touch with reality imo. Smiley

Re: Some stats about The Bugatti Veyron

Blame budget deficits and the public debt for this hunt for revenues. Nothing to do with road safety.

if the same zeal that is shown around the world regarding traffic law enforcement, was dedicated to combating serious crime the world would be a safer place.

I like the real world, I will never drive 200 in anything, no point. My real world experience tells me that the S1000RR is a lot of fun and according to numbers I posted from other folks the S1000RR has the bragging rights for that level, if that means anything. As for cars, speed is nice but I like looks and luxury, that's why I own what I own and it feels great @125. I have no use for something like an Enzo, your dreamcar, can't stand the looks and the theoretical top speed is useless.

Different strokes for different folks. Hopefully, no one here is justifying what they own or want based on pointless numbers.

Well...when the government needs money... Smiley

I'm already prepared for my trip to Italy this summer: A friend, he works some IT stuff in Italy and his girlfriend works for the Polizia Stradale, told me recently that the police officers got specific orders to "target" tourists, especially from Germany and Austria..."because they can afford it". Apparently their superiors are trying to benefit from the fact, that the anti-German sentiment in the Italian population has grown over the past months and the anti-Austrian sentiment is already there. Smiley The worst part is: They also seem to have specific instructions to confiscate the driver's license and the car if alcohol is involved (which I agree with) but the the police officers have the liberty to decide on the spot about what they do, including the confiscation of the driver's license and the punishment fee.

So it may be a good idea to play nice when they stop you...just saying...

Re: Some stats about The Bugatti Veyron

France is on a dangerous path. Hollande promised a lot of things and I am curious how he is going to keep his promises and especially where he is going to get the money from?

Also the workers in France are very aggressive...I would worry.

France is not communist...yet. Maybe not even socialist but the path has been plastered.

Let the left win in Germany and Europe is done for good.

I think many over here don't see this danger, simply because they believe all that social market economy and social peace bullshit.

Let the economic situation worsen in Europe, especially in Germany and you'll see the true face of Europe.

If the daily envy and comments in the media aren't proof enough, I don't know what is.

Use a little device called Coyote. It's a community based radar alert system and it works amazingly well.

I never drive without it. Not 100% foolproof but very efficient nonetheless. Yesterday I drove from Spa Francorchamps to Paris in 3h20. Mostly thanks to the Coyote. And the Turbo Smiley

I always drive with my Mini Coyote, I wouldn't leave my door without it. However, as I'm sure you know, they've limited it's functionality in France recently, due to a change in legislation, and it doesn't work nearly as well as it once did.

I have it elegantly installed outside of the windshield, as I don't have any GPS reception inside the A8. Smiley

+50 km/h above the speed limit alone results in a €750 fine, which on a stretch of autoroute limited at 110km/h, at night, is easily achieved. My fault I guess, relied too much on my Coyote.

This is why I do not use any technical aids to prevent getting caught speeding. Smiley

The eyes are always the best weapon against speed traps (keep in mind that we don't usually have moving radar traps like in the US, coming from the opposite direction).

When the eyes fail, the mouth (and being very nice and apologetic) can be helpful. Smiley I usually let my wife do the talking. Smiley

Btw: With a device like the Coyote, you would be dead meat in Germany. Not really helpful (we have lots of radar, laser, light sensor and especially video surveillance traps). Most of these traps are mobile, they are very seldom at the same spot again.

The S1000 RR is a very complete sportsbike and you get a lot of adrenaline release for a fraction of the money needed for a decently fast car. I like the one with the BMW Motorsport colours kiss

However, not everybody who drives knows how to ride so it is out of the scope of many petrolheads. Personally,I wouldn't buy such a bike myself, although I enjoy motorbiking very much, because the temptation to go very fast and take risks might have unpleasant consequences. But if I were to choose I would prefer it to any comparable Japanese or Italian bike.

I would kill myself riding a S1000RR. I fully agree with you, reginos.

This is a motorcycle for someone with at least a decade of experience with high performance motorcycles.

Thanks god, in Germany beginners aren't permitted to drive such a motorcycle (they need 2 years of experience first with a lower class driver's license limited to 34 hp but after the age 25, you can actually ride any motorcycle you like with the proper driver's license).

Japanese still rule in sporbikes. They make the best. One of the 1st things I said when I walked into the BMW dealership (because I had only discovered this bike a month or 2 before in a magazine) was have they worked the bugs out? You know you never buy the first years production. Well they said it's been out for a couple years and some stuff had been corrected.

Well I read yesterday that BMW has issued a recall for a lot of 2012 production due to a bad batch of wrist pins (the things that connect piston and rod. So it seems that BMW needs even more time. They are a good company so I am confident it will get fixed right. The Japs know how to build a dependable product and have done so for decades.

Assuming you're a reasonably athletic and intelligent person, It does not matter if you have 10 months or 10 years experience, you should be good on any bike that is size appropriate. Too many people are idiots and lacking general life experience, not lacking skills. The differential in speed between the BMW and my current bike is not great. The BMW is much easier to ride.
