Did you know.....Only Two Ferrari Californias Sold With Manual Transmissions!

    Smiley Smiley Smiley

    http://rumors.automobilemag.com/that-few-only-two-ferrari-californias-sold-with-manual-transmissions-127029.html#ixzz1zofLasYb

Pop quiz: The Ferrari California gained an optional manual transmission in early 2010, but how many examples of the retractable-hardtop roadster were built with such a gearbox?

Two. That’s not two percent of all volume, but two cars period.

That’s a pittance, even given Ferrari’s limited volumes. In fact, given roughly 8000 Californias have been sold since its debut, that works out to roughly a .025 percent take rate for the six-speed option. It’s no wonder then that Ferrari has since discontinued the gearbox on the revised 2013 California.

Will purists be upset? Perhaps, but the seven-speed F1 dual-clutch does offer lightening-quick shifts when so desired, but offers the automated convenience many California buyers actually seek. It’s the best of both worlds – and for icing on the cake, the F1 gearbox also manages to improve both performance metrics and fuel economy.

Wow, I didn't even know they made manual optional angry

That easily makes these two more desirable and very cool (in the right combos) But I love it, classic kiss

That wonderful open gate and classic stainless steel ball - often imitated, never bettered! kiss

Now that the manual option has been dropped on the California, the only gearbox offered in any new Ferrari is the F1. The end of an era really.

Manuals are going the way of the dinosaur. After a sudden resurgence and reinterest about a decade ago across all cars, with the introduction of the dual clutch transmission it has been a slow and steady march to antiquity.

    BiTurbo:

This rather plain interior looks good and purposeful with the exception of the small screen that suits a small hatchback.

Ferrari should have kept the stick and the gate on the automatic for the visual effect, as well as for the functionality of optionally using the stick to change gears. The gate could work for N, R, P and +/-. It would have been better than the empty console with the gear buttons.

Couldn't disagree more. That would be just tacky and would only add weight and bulk for no apparent reason other than to immitate something it's not! Smiley After all, Ferraris do not have P, Neutral is selected by the paddles and selecting a gear from a stick when you have paddles is plain stupid. Smiley

Sometimes I use the stick to change gears on both cars with DCT that I drive. After your comment I'm thinking seriously to  refrain, in case someone takes me for stupid. yes wink

A toast to the few (or the two) who purchased this option. wink  I am tempted to recommend the car size zip-lock baggies that I have seen advertised as these cars will be very collectable; bit I would rather see them in the hands of owners who just drive them to their mechanical demise without wrecking them of course.

Funny... in a good way? If I am not mistaken Ferrari presented the 360 in Azurro California on some press pictures. Anyway, a stunning color in my personal opinion and very appropriate for the California.

The manual shifter looks gorgeous on this car, I would actually be very tempted to get this combination of colors and specs. Smiley

If I'm not mistaken it's slightly offset to the left. So is this the centre tunnel of LHD cars installed in a RHD car? Smiley

Also my 911 is Azurro California (though not Azzurro like the Ferrari one). However the Porsche Azurro  is not the same color as the Ferrari Azzurro , codes are different. Ferrari one is slightly lighter/brighter.DSC_7418.jpg

I thought Azzuro California was discontinued by Ferrari? At one time I was considering the color (for either the 360 or 430 don't recall which) and told it was no longer available.Smiley

Is it back for the California?

Re: Did you know.....Only Two Ferrari Californias Sold With Manual Transmissions!

Azzuro California has always been available Nick. It's a special order out of range colour that Ferrari charge extra for. I've seen both 360s and 430s finished in it. Here are pics of both models finished in it.
