Whenever I read a thread similar to this, I inevitably think of Nick and the "Jaws" theme song! This is chum in the water!

Why drive a sports car to work or shopping? Are you serious? Why not drive it every minute you can? My 911 is a daily driver--snow tires on it now--and it is truly a pleasure, weather stuck in traffic with its sweet, short shifting gearbox, or driving it at 8/10 on the track (my limit, not the car's...), or going to Dominick's for groceries. Why park it in the garage and pleasure yourself at the thought of it when you can pleasure yourself by driving it?
It actually sounds like you can't afford to drive your Ferrari every day! Scared of the hit if you get it over 1,000 miles, aren't you?
That along with the fact that every few thousand miles means another several grand spent in "routine maintenance" along with the fear that the engine will blow once it hits 30K miles.
I feel sorry for someone who spends that much on a car only to have it sit in the garage 99% of its life. What an absolute waste. I drive my 997S to work not because I have to, but because I bought it to drive. What a novel idea.

I'm not getting it.... Is there a gym on every street corner in London? Should I be taking a rickshaw? Or spend an hour running there with my ipod playing a looped recording of F360 engine noises?

Er, yes pretty much as it happens. Or it feels that way sometimes
. Certainly wouldn't need to drive to one. Besides, I've not found a gym in London which would have car parking anyway. But London's not Florida. I wish!But that wasn't my point, just that I think it's funny - in a kind of lighthearted way - that you get in a car, to drive to a building, to exercise on a machine indoors, then drive home again!
Come on, you've got to admit that's kind of funny!
Right, I'm off for a bike ride now.

I don't use many machines, mostly free-weights and dumbells, and don't have room in the house for all the junk I use; rack of dumbells up to 120 lbs units, 400 lbs of free weights, assorted benches.... I'd love to have a home gym, but the kids have used up all my rooms.... And besides, I have to work out with a partner to spot on many things (I do pretty heavy lifting, not the kind of stuff you want to go tossing over your chest while you're alone, or only have a 110 lb wife to rescue you from), so I work out with a friend usually over my lunch break.
I used to also be an avid runner and basketball player, but that's kinda fallen off the map as of late. Luckily, the weightlifting seems to be enough cardio by itself to keep the belly from getting mushy.
What does this have to do with good deals on new 997's???
Absolutely nothing, but sometimes a wandering blathering thread is more interesting than "What color car do you think I should buy??"
