    Porker:
I'm still completely sold on the 997.1 rear lights, not so much on those of the 997.2, ...

The 991 lights look very good when lit, the overall shape I'm still not entirely convinced. I like them more than the 997.2 lights for sure.

    I'm with you 100% Porker!
To me, the rear of the facelifted 997 always appeared as what it is: cosmetic change for the sake of change.
The design curves of the rear lights were spot on with the 997.1. From the front, I like the 997.2 better, as they neatly aligned the directionals.

About the 991... I understand what Easy means; because they are so slender, they make the rear bumper appear weirdly high... hopefully they will set things right with the facelift, but if history is an indication of the future, then I do not have high hopes!

Also, they seem to be making the same mistake with the C4S again: in the 997 series they had to jump through hoops to fit the reflector strip in (I think that was the main reason to make the rear lights of the 997.2 so weird). Now on the 991 the rear lights have the right shape for a reflector strip that is just as high as the rear lights cluster, and then they apply this really weird slender strip that doesn't make sense again... Sometimes Porsche Design department really takes decisions that I don't understand... Smiley

It does not make it appear like, it is weirdly high. I compared it last week to mine .... It got too high now

Agree with those on the 991. To me, the rear end on the 991 looks really large, and very awkward and out of proportion from almost every angle. All the rest of the 991 looks pretty good except the ugly rear end. It seems like Porsche tried so hard to add that spoiler edge that as a result the whole rest of the rear was ruined.

Oh and also it seems that no engine access was also a result of that spoiler edge, because the spoiler edge caused them to make the engine lid so high that the engine was so much lower than the lid and therefore not accessible.

The rear end of the 911, 964, 993, 996, and 997 all look much better, more proportioned, smaller, and provide access to the engine.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

I think overall look of 991 is better than both 997 variants, but would add that any car--certainly including Porsches--cannot look perfect from all angles. For example, if you look at the 991 from a low viewpoint to the rear, the rear can look "high". If you look at the rear from a higher eye level angle, the rear looks well proportioned and sleek. This perspective change is particularly true with the Panamera, which can appear "bulbous" from a low, direct side view, but gorgeous from eye level height. I stood for several minutes beside a black Panamera today parked at a curb in Paris, and several people stopped to admire and have their photos taken by it. It still looks very modern and chic..

It will be interesting to see how the blend of old and new works on this car. The ultra modern shape of the rear LED lights with the retro Targa roof design. Hope they get it right!

    I got it, thanks;

the back window slides to the rear with the engine cover, then the two arms slide down and slide the roof in the space that was allocated for the cover of the cabriolet ?

    Carrara:

Oh and also it seems that no engine access was also a result of that spoiler edge, because the spoiler edge caused them to make the engine lid so high that the engine was so much lower than the lid and therefore not accessible.

The higher rear end aids aerodynamic stability. The low and very sloping rears of previous generations were not good for preventing aerodynamic lift.

That's very unfortunate because it looks pretty ugly from most angles.

And I agree with you guys! The 991 GT3 doesn't sounds like a GT3 at all. The 997.1 Carrera sounds better than that!

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Not a fair comparison between exhaust sounds of 991 and 997 Gt3 variants. Location of microphones, type of recording, background noise, etc., all affect the video's sound. Wait for side by side, focused comparisons...

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

The new DFI non-Metzger-engined cars have a deeper growl.  Face it, at this point what is sound engineered is for, at best, aesthetic and, at worst, marketing rather than performance purposes. I for one would pay for the higher pitched wail that my old Boxter S RS 60 Spyder PSE provided- I also prefer the look of the center dual pipes over the 4 fake outlets on the S. But not so much that I would trade for a GT3 JUST for that.
