    Press embargo questions

    Hi!

Some questions please to Porsche press embargoes :

    - How much days before press release does RC (or other reporter guys) get the press details of new models from Porsche?

    - Is date of press release itself also a secret? Are you allowed to publish the date of 991/4 press release?

If it is not allowed to publish release date ..... when do you "think" can we expect official release of Carrera 4 models?

    Best regards

    Gregor

    Re: Press embargo questions

If there is a press embargo for certain news, the press embargo is mentioned in the beginning or the end of the news.

Porsche doesn't seem to trust us, we only get the news on the day the press embargo ends. yes

Some news we have access to have a press embargo but these are actually news nobody here would really be interested in.

I'm actually pretty happy about this because this also means that we do not have to follow any press embargo we aren't aware of. That simple.

To make it short: If someone has news, which are under a press embargo, please give them to us but please do not tell us, that there is a press embargo. Smiley

We can publish them since there is no press embargo for us. Unless Porsche tells us so. indecision

If you are expecting an official release date for the Carrera 4, I have to disappoint you. There is a month available, nothing else. If you spend more time on Rennteam, you may learn to read between the lines and I guess you already got your answer in an older post. Smiley  Smiley

    Re: Press embargo questions

    Just some additional observations ...

It all comes down to who owes the legal duty of confidentiality to the manufacturer. A person (X) owing that duty would be in breach if he disclosed that confidential information (eg details of a new model prior to its launch). If X discloses that information to Y then X is in breach of that legal duty but Y received the information and owes no legal duty to the manufacturer. Y may suspect that the information has been disclosed by X in breach of a legal duty. The manufacturer can try to seek an injunction to stop further disclosure by X and perhaps even by Y. If the confidential information has already become public knowledge, then injunctions are no longer useful. The manufacturer may then sue X for compensation but could struggle to make Y liable (since Y owed no legal duty).

In practice, even if the manufacturer tried to sue, it is hard to see what the compensation would be valued at ... what is the value of the news being published a day early?

What would typically happen is that any employees who helped the breach would be disciplined (and even fired) and X would never receive any information in future.

So, the truth is: it is just not worth the very short term glory of breaching a press embargo once since you are likely to pay for it in the longer term by being left out in the cold on future occasions.

Just my 2 cents ... and speaking generically only :)

Well...we get our information from non-official sources anyway, so would it matter that we are left in the cold?

In my opinion, Porsche profits a lot from the various online communities but maybe they haven't quite understood this yet, at least not everyone there. indecision

Sure, since RT usually gets information from sources other than Porsche itself, RT isn't subject to the duty of confidentiality ... so there should be no risk of liability for RT.

As for being in the cold, we are already there (as are the other internet car forums) :)

Porsche's stance towards car forums is truly regrettable ... they should give us far more credit for the valuable contribution we make to fostering a community for Porsche enthusiasts, sharing information about Porsche products, encouraging passion for the marque etc etc.

    Re: Press embargo questions

    Hi!

I have to make my decision to order a Carrera Coupe ( or S ) manual or a Carrera 4 Coupe manual soon ( car delivery 02/2013 ) ..... but I want to know how the red stripe at the rear will look like ..... before placing my order ......

    .... difficult decision :

    - base Carrera - good look  - good feel that one of "cheapest" 991 around ... Euro crisis ahead - even for Germany

    - Carrera S - good look  - 10000 more but fast

    - Carrera 4 base - best look - save 4000 compared to S - slow but broader ass

    Aaarggghhhhhh heart

    Re: Press embargo questions

It comes down to that in the long run :

Is AWD more or less important to you then 2WD ?

Is the wider body more or less important to you then the narrow ?

Is the red stripe important ?

If 2 or more yes answers, go for the 4  , if not get a Carrera .

And then if performance is worth the extra cash, go for S. If not stay with base.

    Problem solved.

Not at all a computer programmer  ..... indecision  but I remember very well all I went through when I bought my 997.1.4S  . If I would of answered honestly to the above list instead of thinking too much about it , It would of saved me the change I had to do for a 997.2 S  Smiley
