    We need also to consider that the depreciation of the water cooled 911 is linked to the fact that the production numbers are massively higher than they used to be for the air cooled ones. For example there were about 68,000 993 produced vs about 170,000 996 (worldwide) . I do not know the 997 figures but I can speculate they are significantly higher than ones of the 996 . High availabillity is a contributing factor to the depreciation.

    High production numbers also mean that older cars get into the hands of drivers less inclined (or unable) to maintain them properly, driving prices down further. Early 996s are now getting to be a dime a dozen.
