Re: Ready to order Cayenne Turbo

Stunning trip. Just two to three thoughts on your preliminary route. You completely left out the center of the Alpes, which you can even see from Munich, on both ways going to and leaving from Leipzig.

Unless you have a personal reason to go there I´d also prefer to visit Salzburg instead of Graz or Klagenfurt. There are some more highlights I would add once the main route has been finalized.

Does Porsche´s temporary insurance cover all European countries, by the way?

Re: Ready to order Cayenne Turbo

    true, will readjust :)

I am assuming that they are.  I did a similar trip 11 years ago to pickup a BMW.  they had insurance all over western europe, and that's 11 years ago!!

Porsche insurance did not cover Italy in 2009.  Better check for current coverage...

Guess many on the forum would be happy to support you on the planning. Smiley

That was my though as well, I would also check twice for Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary.

Re: Ready to order Cayenne Turbo

I would actually skip the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary for various reasons but I understand why these countries may appeal to you.

My route would be different...Berlin, Dresden, Stuttgart, Munich, Lago di Garda (beautiful place to drive along the lake), Verona, Venice, Milano (I would skip Genova), Cote d'Azur (Monaco, Cannes, etc. but forget about Marseilles), Paris and back to Germany. Don't forget that you're driving in a luxury SUV with all your luggage in it, so be careful.

Sounds like a great trip :)

I would keep Prague and Budapest in your itinerary. Having been to both, they are definitely worth seeing if you haven't previously been there.

RC is right, nothing to see in Genova. If you can, you should add Bologna, Florence and Siena.

    I would skip Marseilles too.

    Have fun!

I've been pretty much everywhere :)  My wife have not travelled as much, so I'll have to use her desire to see certain cities in mind... Marseilles is a dirty town, which is crazy considering its historic heritage.

I have been to many weird places... not scared of anyone touching my car.  I will park on paid parking spots and should have no problems with it.  I have friends in EU that drive all sorts of crazy cars and no one attacks them/their cars...

But I will probably limit the whole trip to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Cote d'azur...  Still need to get the dates from my dealer.  Things are slllooowww in Canada :)

Re: Ready to order Cayenne Turbo

Hello again dear friends at rennteam :)

I need help with the choice of summer wheels. I am doing european delivery in two weeks which means that the truck will get to Montreal in 2 months. It comes with RS spider 20" wheels which I will keep for the winter. My cayenne is black/espresso cognac with ceramic brakes and a bodykit with skirt. I am looking for 20" (roads suck here) summer wheels. Something like "machined black". I really liked machined black version on these wheels: http://www.nitrousgarage.com/product.php?productid=66&page=1 but they are unavailable. I need your help, please spam me with ideas and an approximate price. Custom wheels for cayenne are usually 22" :) but I prefer not to spend my 991 turbo budget on chiropractors ;)

    many thanks!!!

Re: Ready to order Cayenne Turbo

I like the Cayenne Sport Edition wheel most. 21''...black painted...should be a nice contrast to your PCCB brake calipers. They also have the advantage that they come with Porsche N-certified tires. Your dealer could sell you a full set (rims incl. tires) through their Tequipment program and I bet he can give you some rebate too (don't pay MSRP!).

I wouldn't go with aftermarket wheels on the Cayenne, they destroy the originality of the car (just my personal opinion). You also need to take in consideration the possibility of drivetrain/AWD/PTS issues with aftermarket wheels and especially when it comes to warranty issues. Dealers usually have the obligation to make notes in their "system" about aftermarket equipment noticed on customer cars, this includes sport exhaust systems, rims/tires, chassis mods (lowering, different springs, aftermarket sport chassis, etc.), aftermarket HiFi systems/etc. installs and of course engine tuning. Just saying... angry

The rims you mentioned (link you posted) are a bit too "nervous" for my taste, I would prefer a "cleaner" design.

RC, other members told me in this thread that 21"s are too uncomfortable - I don't live in Germany :)  roads are horrible here.  I am not worried about warranty - here a wheel is not considered something aftermarket.

Misha - THANK YOU, I am in love with the black wheel... :)

Those look awesome ! I bet they'd look great at 21" in the Cayenne Turbo

Re: Ready to order Cayenne Turbo

I'm starting to doubt the 20" strategy and to risk getting them in 21" :)  the look will greatly improve vs. the 20"

Re: Ready to order Cayenne Turbo

I say DO IT !! but then again I'm a fan of big wheels. not over the top "I'm a gangsta" big wheels but many cars benefit from a little more wheel size to level out the proportion of the car. 21" on the Cayenne looks perfect imo. I saw a video recently of a Panamera with 22" and even those looked relatively decent on it. It depends on the car really, and also how much ride quality you're willing to compromise. Oh and trust me guys none of you have worse roads than I have here, granted I also don't drive around on 21" wheels but I know bad roads.

Re: Ready to order Cayenne Turbo

Also have the 21" wheels and comfort is not an issue for me (and my family). I didn't even go for the PASM or air suspension, but the standard (sport) suspension. I test drove the air suspension and the sport setting was comfortable enough for Swiss roads .

TB993tt - black painted callipers - super-cool! :)  Our Cayennes will look very similar with the black options.

993Targa - thanks, I'm getting the bravery to go up to 21". But this is your comment from a few months back:

I don't know how the roads are in the Montreal area, but if they are comparable to the greater NYC area, I would stick to 20". I have 21" and they are great if you live in Switzerland or Germany, but not if you live in the US. I wouldn't choose them. Again I don't know the roads in Montreal.

Montreal has roads are worse than New York state, even worse than New York city and are close to Dominican Republic :)  we have a constant fluctuation of weather here throughout the winter which hovers around 0 degrees.  So roads are awful.

Your black calipers will be super cool I'm afraid mine our not PCCBs - My Cayenne is a '12 diesel with full Techart Kit 1 styling with turbo front end,all black with titanium painted highlights it is a design done by our UK Techart importer. The car is fully loaded including tuning 300PS/640NM but since it is for my girl the turbo engine is total overkill Smiley

Re: Ready to order Cayenne Turbo

20" is the way to go in the Northeast (Montreal included!).  i put HRE 21s on without telling my wife they were a different size and she knew on the first road trip - 'what is wrong with the car' was the quote.  Unfortunately, the roads in the northeast of the States/Canada are just horrible
