Can't wait to see some pictures in daylight, must be an amazing color. Looking at the lines of the spider, why would anyone order the coupe? Yes, extra weight on the wrong place, but unless you get it as a track car you won't notice the difference.wink

Well, some people are Coupe-guys and some people are Spider-guys. Smiley

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Isuk, your spider is just the best looking one I've seen so far. The color suits the car very well and gives a sportier look to it than red or white.

    Very nice car indeed. Congrats.

A very wonderful Ferrari specifies to ISUK's high standards kiss. I like the full leather as I've never been keen on alcantara in any car and the wheels are top choice too.

IMO the Spider looks better than the Italia Coupe. The buttresses and the engine cover give this model a more classic look. If the open top model doesn't lose out (much?) in driving dynamics, then it is the default choice for the Ferrarista.

Others have already answered this but let me chip in if I may. Looks are a subjective matter. That said, I would never get a convertible over its tin top sibleng; ever! Secondly, Ferrari states that the coupe is the more hard core of the two. It makes sence since it is lighter and much more rigid. Not only is it faster both in a straight line and around a track but it also has the latest software uprgades that make it even more edgy; the Spider makes do with the older, slower/softer manettino settings. Finally the coupe has a more aggressive and louder exhaust note. Smiley

Many thanks for all the kind words wink

I just need the rain to hold off in the morning as I'm driving down in my Dino and the windscreen wipers in it are pretty awful due to their short blades and asthmatic old Italian electric motor which really does not enjoy being asked to move them across the screen smiley

We should await ISUK's expert verdict on the Italia vs Spider debate.

In the real world of non-professional drivers and public roads, I suspect the difference may not be really palpable

The Spider is a Ferrari anyway not a Mercedes SL. Smiley

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

For sure it is a Ferrari and a bloody good one at it! I am just saying what Ferrari themselves are confessing. It is just a less hard core (but by no means soft or non sporty) proposition than the Italia. I am also awaiting for ISUK's comments and I wish him all the best!

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Guys it is 4 MPH slower than the Italia so hardly a major difference. The engine, by all accounts, actually sounds louder to the driver because you can lower the rear window just as you can in the Gallardo spyder to hear it better.

If it's rubbish compared to the Italia I shall leave it at the dealer smiley

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Remember my motion to dub you "Master Configurator"? I always cringed at the thought of an orange Ferrari, but lo and behold if anyone could spec that to perfection it had to be you. The stripe on the seats look great and really fits into the whole package bringing together the outside with the inside very subtly, and a great choice with the black calipers.

Many congrats on another exquisite example !! its going to look stunning when you park it next to the Dino in the same color.

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

True ISUK, it looks wonderful, really nice
Can't wait to see the pictures of the Dino and the Spider in the same color together.

So, did you leave the Dino at the dealer, or did you have a co-driver? If you're having difficulties finding co-drivers for these kind of jobs, feel free to PM me smiley

Besides, Spider costs 25K euro (excl.VAT) more and sells over MSRP. So with the price difference between Coupe and Spider (Roughly around 40K euro without tax) one can buy an all new 981 Porsche Boxster Smiley

I understand that your choice of the Coupe was based on its (perceived?)  better driving dynamics vis a vis the Spider rather than on the cost differential. You would have chosen the Coupe even if the price was the same.

However, as a general point, IMO if someone gets into the type of arithmetical logic as above,  then this person is not really ready for a new Ferrari. If the potential Ferrari buyer preferred the Spider he shouldn't compromise his desire on the basis of the extra 40K.

Ferrari and other exotics are amongst the ultimate expressions of extravagance and require a money no object attitude, if the buyer is to be ultimately and truly fullfilled.

Like the proverbial "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it" attributed to Rolls Royce cars.

    --

    "Form follows function"

    Reginos,

What you have said is true for 90% of Ferrari owners. You are also correct about my decision; even if they were the same money, I would have chosen the coupe again. Smiley (Again for dynamic and weight reasons. You cannot open the doors of a 430 spider when it is on a lift because of its body flex Smiley

However, 40K euro difference (without tax in Germany) translates into 100K euro (with all the special consumer tax + VAT) in Turkey. Therefore I would still choose to have another car such as a 981 Boxster besides my Ferrari instead of a 2 purpose Ferrari.

Ferrari (mid engine V8 models since F355) is my childhood dream and I'm buying it as a "yacht" and a daily drive. If I wasn't so passionate about it, my smart money would go to 991 Carrera S Coupe (which I like very much after my test drive at Porsche Roadshow except the cheap/hard plastic quality around the gear lever switches)

I'm not planning to sell my forthcoming İtalia in near future so depreciation of a new Ferrari doesn't bother me much. Just because I can afford it  doesn't mean I'm rich enough not to ask its price. I may be wealthy but not rich in Ferrari standarts where the money is never an object. That's fine with me as long as I can afford a brand new mid engine Ferrari in Turkey. Smiley (which costs close to 500K euro Smiley

So my whole point is, my smart money would go to a 981 Boxster which my wife can also drive and I would have a car just for open top fun and wouldn't ruin my own coupe.

P.S. Iain, I'm sorry to hijacked your thread. You are in different shoes than me, so your spider choice is so right as your spider specs are Smiley

Onur, I can understand fully your rationale. From what I've read in your posts you are a person who will take full advantage of this special automobile, both in terms of ownership experience and driving pleasure. You are spending a large amount but because you know exactly what you want you and how to utilize the car, this money will not be wasted. I wish you to enjoy your Ferrari in good health and happiness. wink

BTW, I was very surprised with your findings regarding the F430 Spider body flex! It never happened even on my 986 Boxster.

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Here she is. It's been a long day and the traffic was pretty bad on the drive home but what a car! kiss There is absolutely no discernable difference to drive versus the coupe. In fact I enjoyed it a lot more as being able to drop the rear window with the roof up lets you hear the fabulous noise of the V8 without any wind buffeting or tyre roar. Rearward visiblity is also much better in the spider even with the top up which I hadn't expected. There have been some obvious improvements made to engine mapping and throttle response versus my previous coupes. You only have to lightly press the throttle and the car just pulls the horizon towards you.

Great images, you have specced it nicely! I actually think that color is really cool in the 458... so retro but maybe it just reminds me of your Dino too much now. The shot with it in the background at the dealer is very cool!!!

You seem to enjoy colorful cars eh? Lime green Cayman, yellow 991... Ever consider a baby blue car? My dream color

Enjoy it to the maximum! Did you sell or trade the coupe?

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Thanks very much for the photos Smiley The Spider  with top down really maximises the visual aspect of the sports seats, and the outside photos really show off the "orangeness" of the Rosso Dino.

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

I sold the coupe back in early March Mike through a specialist dealer that are local to me.  I keep them regularly stocked smiley

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

    Fantastic looking car.kiss

Amazon, my wife has been badgering me to call my dealer to order one. I just cannot pull the trigger.  I have had several new Ferrari Spiders in the past ten years. Great experience but at the risk of sounding trite "Been there, done that".

Onur, regarding keeping the Ferrari for a long time, I am not sure you will do that. The thing about Ferrari's is you do not keep them long. Though their quality have improved, yet they remain fragile. Ferrari ownership needs to be "refreshed" periodically.indecision

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

The 458 isn't fragile at all Nick. My dealer was bemoaning the fact that it's so reliable that they seldom have much work to do to them.

The 458 spider is light years ahead of the 430 spider. I'd highly recommend going to have a test drive. Everything about it is just so far ahead of the 430 it's like it's jumped two model generations not one. The folding hard top is brilliant and really does give you a coupe and cab in one. I should think you'll be filling in an order form pronto after trying one wink

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

I may do that though in the US 458's are not available for test drives. Every car built and delivered to a dealer has been ordered by a client. Even used ones are generally on consignment and no test drives are available. In a couple of years further into the model they may become available for test drives.

FWIW, other than the power increase I did not find the 430 that much different than the 360. However, I do know from internal Ferrari documents that the 458 is a totally new car from the 430.

The 458 is really a genuine quantum leap from the 430 in every regard. Just do it!

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Test drive a pre-owned 458 coupe Nick then imagine the grin on your face multiplying by a factor of 3 if you were in a spider and able to drop the top. The noise when you drop the back window and race up through the gears would have you signing an order form on it's own..... it's that good! kiss
