    My 458 spider has arrived

My dealer just emailed me these pics Smiley The car arrived on the truck from Italy just after lunch and is now undergoing it's PDI.

It's finished in the special order historic colour of Rosso Dino (orange) just like my latest Dino 246 Smiley  I had to special order the seat centre stripe in matching orange leather and that was a bit of a drama but I got there in the end with the factory in terms of a good colour match. I went for full leather this time around as opposed to my previous 458s which had the leather/alcantara option. The stitching is Grigio Chiaro (silvery grey) and it has the carbon fibre sport pack interior and the carbon fibre side gills behind the side windows. I went for the diamond finish sports wheels and gloss black calipers to compliment the exterior colour.

All being well I'll be making the 3 hour trip to my dealer to collect it this Saturday. Their delivery truck is off the road next week for a gearbox overhaul and booked out for most the week after that so I can't wait that long to get it Smiley

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Thanks Nick. It's a difficult colour to capture on a photo as it changes a lot under different lighting conditions as can be seen from the pics on my Dino restoration thread. I decided I really wanted a different colour from red this time around but still wanted the car to look fresh and sporty.

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

I want to be you - just for a day!!!! Congratulations it is beautiful.  I really think the 458 spider is the most beautiful modern day car - i have a GT3 RS and I love it but the aesthetics of the 458 is emotionally on a different plane!

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

    Simply stunning!

Looks awesome. You weren´t inclined to order additional parts in orange leather for the interior? Maybe the centre stripe on the steering wheel...

Guess the above reason is what makes it so difficult to find the appropriate leather color. Nonetheless a great car!

I wanted to introduce a subtle connection between the exterior and interior especially when the roof is down so decided that the seat centre stripes on their own achieved that. I felt that introducing any more orange highlights would detract from the simplicity of the purposeful look I was going for. The silver stitching worked well on my last California when the roof was down and gave just the right hint of hand made luxury without being overtly on show. My dealer's new sales manager had suggested orange stitching but that was too gauche and "Lamborghini" for this car IMHO Smiley It's no surprise that he sold Lamborghinis for several years.

The carbon dash, centre tunnel, steering wheel and seat backs are picked up on the exterior by the carbon B pillar trim. I picked the gloss black calipers to blend into the scheme rather than detract from it by being too prominent. Some people suggested I go for either yellow or aluminium calipers but both wouldn't have worked IMHO. The wheels are enough of a statement against the orange bodywork and another colour would simply have clashed IMHO.

I'll post better pics with the roof down once I've collected it........ if it actually stops raining for long enough.

    Congrats Iain! Smiley

    Very nice and unique.Smiley

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Wonderful car, Iain, with a very special colour. wink

Though it looks similar to other red Ferrari, Rosso Dino is really different in real life, so I think the car will stand out in a very positive way. kiss

I always liked the shiny black calipers (for which you have to pay now ), they fit perfectly to the diamond finish sport wheels. Also grigio chiaro as stitching colour is a great choice with black leather, much, much better than vulgar red, which is so common in Germany.

    Enjoy in good health. kiss

Finally your spider has arrived and it looks gorgeous as expected angel

Enjoy her in good health Iain. I'm also curious about your review vs Italia. So your 3 hours trip will be a good test Smiley

BTW, why did you choose full leather instead of leather/alcantara?

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

    Thanks Onur kiss

I went for leather this time around as I've had leather and alcantara interiors on both my previous 458 coupes and also on my last California. I felt like a change and really liked the all leather race seat in the Atelier display at my dealer. Full leather is also standard so the saving of not going for alcantara helped with the pain of paying the extra £ss for the historic paint colour   I felt I had to draw the line somewhere on the cost of options as I'd spent enough with everything else I wanted on the car.

Absolutely stunning Iain - you've done it again man!  It's amazing how you manage to translate what's available on paper into something so unique in person...kiss

A very wonderful Ferrari specifies to ISUK's high standards kiss. I like the full leather as I've never been keen on alcantara in any car and the wheels are top choice too.

IMO the Spider looks better than the Italia Coupe. The buttresses and the engine cover give this model a more classic look. If the open top model doesn't lose out (much?) in driving dynamics, then it is the default choice for the Ferrarista.

Can't wait to see some pictures in daylight, must be an amazing color. Looking at the lines of the spider, why would anyone order the coupe? Yes, extra weight on the wrong place, but unless you get it as a track car you won't notice the difference.wink

Well, some people are Coupe-guys and some people are Spider-guys. Smiley

Besides, Spider costs 25K euro (excl.VAT) more and sells over MSRP. So with the price difference between Coupe and Spider (Roughly around 40K euro without tax) one can buy an all new 981 Porsche Boxster Smiley

I understand that your choice of the Coupe was based on its (perceived?)  better driving dynamics vis a vis the Spider rather than on the cost differential. You would have chosen the Coupe even if the price was the same.

However, as a general point, IMO if someone gets into the type of arithmetical logic as above,  then this person is not really ready for a new Ferrari. If the potential Ferrari buyer preferred the Spider he shouldn't compromise his desire on the basis of the extra 40K.

Ferrari and other exotics are amongst the ultimate expressions of extravagance and require a money no object attitude, if the buyer is to be ultimately and truly fullfilled.

Like the proverbial "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it" attributed to Rolls Royce cars.

    Well,

there are real people paying real money for a new Ferrari and I guess they are well aware which model they decide to purchase. I have to say that I find the Spider to be more attractive than the hardtop version but guess there is hardly anybody who would purchase a significantly more expensive model if one doesn´t see any advantage in it. In Onur´s case taxes make the price differential increase substantially so I don´t think it is a matter of limited funds but a very sensible decision.

Ferrari is well aware how many cars they can produce from each model and what to charge for it.

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Exactly, the Ferrari buying process should not be the same as the buying process for any other automobile even something like a Porsche Turbo S. It follows the pattern of other super luxury items that you must get what you really dream to be really  fulfilled.

If our hypothetical buyer was attracted to the Spider what is the point of spending a huge amount on the Coupe and not fulfilling his desire in order to save a small amount relative to his outlay?  Imagine spending as much as 240K Euro on the coupe and still feeling that you missed out on your preferred model!

Onur is an expert driver on and off the track  it seems, and he got the more driver oriented Coupe that he wanted. So no dilemmas and regrets for our Rennteam friend wink

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

    reginos,

You are forgetting/possibly unaware that the waiting list for the spider is considerably longer than the coupe with estimated delivery times stretching out to two years in some markets so for many buyers it isn't simply a case of ordering a spider over a coupe. The coupe may be their only realistic choice if they want a car inside of 6 to 12 months

Re: My 458 spider has arrived

Allow my compliments for getting your wonderful Spider so soon kiss
