Almost 15k EUR (Germany) as far as I heard...as an option. Retrofit, if possible, would be more expensive...I guess.

Yikes - For 15k one could buy and build a pretty good G series track car!

The fact that Porsche also change the cylinder heads and the camshafts for just 30 PS shows how rough and ready some tuner modifications are which advertize this level of power increase with just a software and intake "upgrade".

The net cost of the power increase is really 9600 EUR because the X51 kit incorporates the PSE and SC Paket which if optioned individually would have cost some 4200 EUR.

If you take that into account, the cost for the new X51 seems to be fair.

That is quite a sweet upgrade and i imagine many customers jumping on it. That they go for the troubles of changing the cylinder heads and camshafts sounds really professional.

    Re: X51 for 991S ready...

It will be interesting to see the torque curve and the performance figures. The S needs 4.1 seconds to 100 km/h and with X51 it might be sub 4 seconds applying a favorable rounding smiley

Not that the 0 - 100 km/h time matters much in real life, but still an important figure. Would put it on par with the 997.1 Turbo, sans turbo lag.

    Re: X51 for 991S ready...

X51 0-100km/h is 4.0s(with SC Plus on). So, X51 is only 0.1s faster in 0-100km/h. BUT, 0-200km/h is different story-difference is almost 2s. Even bigger is the difference on 0-250km/h. X51 car is also 2.5s faster on the Ring then standard car.

    Re: X51 for 991S ready...

Similar to the previous X51 packages with new air intake, radiator and ECU remapping including the sports exhaust system. As bonus this year you also get sport chrono package with dynamic engine mounts. Makes the price a bit more reasonable (I guess they had to get the price down since they will give this kit away almost for free in the upcoming GTS).

The modified cylinder heads and camshafts are intriguing. I don't think the 997.2 X51 kit did include modified cylinder heads and camshafts, even though the description on Tequipment said it did. My source could be wrong of course.

The 997.1 X51 kit did include modified cylinder heads and camshafts. It did also included new exhaust manifolds with increased diameter (from 42mm to 48mm).

makes the price seem vaguely justifiable!

    Power-up from 400 to 430hp / 7,500rpm (440 Nm / 5,750rpm).

    Thanks for the details! Smiley

So same 440 Nm maximum torque, but at 5'750 rpm instead of 5'600 rpm for the Carrera S. Now we just need the torque curve which should be high, wide and flat Smiley The new intake system with the switchable flaps is hopefully handling this nicely for low vs high rpm (just like the 997.2 X51 package).

I agree X51 is a must have option and considering the inclusion of Sport Chrono and PSE, it is quite a good deal.

Don't expect better low-end torque.  The Carrera S already has a variable intake tract to make max torque across the rev range (started 17 years ago in the 993 Varioram).

The listed modifications are required to make the extra 30hp at the top of the rev range (7,500rpm).  To make any noticeable difference to torque in the lower revs, you need to add discplacement or forced induction (turbo or supercharging).

Actually, if the X51 makes the same torque as the Carrera S but 150rpm higher, then it has slightly worse low-end torque by definition (less torque than the Carrera S' at 5,600rpm, but more torque (HP) at 7,500rpm).  So, the shape of the X51 torque curve is necessarily peakier...

I expect better low end torque and better high end power from the X51 package. The whole point of the X51 intake system with the 6 switchable valves is to better handle the transition between different power and torque-optimised geometries. As you point out, VarioRam was once introduced to solve this transition, but had a different design using a second throttle body and a second plenum. Since then it has evolved into the more efficient X51 intake system with 6 valves. By the way, VarioRam was introduced 20 years ago on the 964 RS Smiley

Below is the torque and power curves for the 997.2 X51 package (solid lines) compared to the Carrera S (dotted lines). More low end torque and more high end power. Voila!

Thanks for the good info.  This chart does not seem to be similar to the one on the 991S, otherwise the same peak torque amount wouldn't have come 150 rpm later (it would come earlier if it followed the trend of the chart above).
