    Time for a 991 Special Edition...

    The 991 has been on the road for weeks already, so it must be time to release a Special Edition to keep sales rolling (or start them rolling Smiley ).   Seriously though, 2013 is the 50th Anniversary of the 911 line, so it is inconceivable that PAG will not celebrate this with a 991 50th Anniversary Edition.  

    My guess:  
       - Timed with 991 C4 release in 2013?  so will perhaps be a C4 
       -  will be a luxury edition, not a sports edition to avoid cannibalizing upcoming Turbo or GT3
       -  Special leather, interior trim, maybe a +20 HP kit
       -  At least one unique body part, perhaps spoiler for visual distinction
       -  priced less than the 918  Smiley

    Maybe a special paint job, and/or special stickers!

    Seems like Porsche is off and running right out of the gate this time around with special body style options.  Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but it seems like there are way more options than usual at this point in the life cycle of the 991...? 

    Not sure where this is all going, and I know there have been times in the past where specials have been more than a little silly, but the the designers must feel like they are running out of ways to differentiate all the packages.  They may be stealing back some of the niche opportunities that they have seen various "tuners" grab in the past.

    I agree that Porsche can't pass up the 50 year marker, and a special spoiler or front bumper, along with some HP seems like it would be a good way to approach such a tangible excuse to create a package.  Add to it the fact that the 991 seems to be a monumental change over the 997 (on some levels), it doesn't look to me like they left a lot of meaningful meat on the table.  I Hope they do it right, since it seems a given that they will do it.

    I admit that I'm at a loss to guess at a more specific idea though.  Maybe that's because I'm a little tired of the marketing process they have perpetuated, particularly of recent.

    Sorry to be so negative.  Especially about such a fabulous car, and such a meaningful milestone.

    They just announced a Porsche Club special. Limited edition for club members to draw straws for the privilege of paying a ton of money, dark green, whale tale, GT3 style front, additional 25 HP.

    Only 12 units worldwide?? That is certainly limited and the price will reflect that.   I seem to recall one of the RT members has an older version of a club special.... Targa Tim??

    I have one too (997 Club Coupe #33).

    As for not being worhty of the Special edition tag, actually looking back into Porsche history , starting from G models, there are plenty of special series that were not any different than the modern ones what was different was the release frequency . Starting from the 997 it  increased significantly, but then also the overall production numbers and the geographical exposure of the brand increased. Example the 997 Turbo S Chineses Anniversary Edition could not have happened just few years before.

    Hello!

    I placed an order last week for a platinum silver bon black leather interior.

    I had great difficulty choosing between white silver and grey.

    I went with silver based on a lot of positive comments from other members here.

    How did you make your decision for silver?

    White and grey look great too, but +1 on platinum silver with black leather. The "Carrera Classic" bright aluminum wheels clinched the deal for me- it is all "just right"- like it was carved out of a solid alumimum billet.
