    Re: Mercedes A25 AMG

I know of early '90s Mazda 323s with 600.000 miles on the clock, still on the original factory engine!  There is also a Xedos 6 in the household. Broke down only once in 19 years; it needed a new fuel pump after 150.000 miles. Unlike the, then similarly priced, E36 Beemer in my environment that proved to be a headache. I can put forward many examples like that but I reckon you get my point. wink I guess you know that Mazdas have been named as the most reliable cars in the UK for many years running by the way.

A guy I know has always insisted that you buy non-Japanese, only if you want to become your mechanic's best friend. However, he drives a BMW 5 series yes Smiley

Haha must say Kia and Hyundai are SERIOUS cars now in terms of all aspects! What is really tempting are the new Infiniti sports cars, they have great sound and stunning designs. Life is too short though, I will stay with German cars broken heart

    Re: Mercedes A25 AMG

With the exception of the latest 2012 Nissan GT-R maybe, none of the currently available japanese cars raise my blood pressure...they suck. The cars are boring and Germans buy mostly those cheap, small japanese cars like the Toyota IQ or those crossover-SUVs like the Nissan Qashqai. Inifinity tried to penetrate the german market with the FX but I doubt they have any success. Same goes to Lexus...

Only Toyota started to have some success with the...Prius but I really hate this car.

    Tough market in Germany...

    Re: Mercedes A25 AMG

The success of Japanese cars and recently Korean, is related to their ease of use, reliability and lower costs, as  means of transport rather than exciting driving machines. There have been some Japanese drivers' cars over the years but these have been the exception.

For example the Qashqai is a great sales success and owners I speak to are very happy with it and they see no reason why they should pay more for a Tiguan or a Q3. However, once you compare these cars side by side you realize that even in this lowly class of vehicle there is a tangible difference between Japan and Germany in the choice materials, driving feel and in the aesthetics both inside and outside. However, the majority of buyers around the world are not car enthusiasts and such things don't matter. They view cars as mere consumer durables for a practical use and they buy cars on a budget basis, which IMO is very valid and acceptable.

reginos: I would agree in general but their are always exceptions. A Mazda 6 drives much better than a VW Passat for example. ;)

Believe it or not...completely cold. Just the GT-R caught my attention and maybe...don't be surprised, the MX-5. The MX-5 was quite something fresh when it showed up more than two decades ago. I'm just disappointed that Mazda wasn't capable of making something more out of it, especially now that we have 2012.

The Lancer Evo and the Impreza Sti don't impress a bit...I owned four Lancia Delta HF Integrale...more than 25(!) years ago. Smiley Not impressed a bit.

Fair enough. You are a tough customer. After driving the 430, I never looked back at the 911 but that does not mean the the P is a bad car. Anyway, each to their own.

    AMG-fettled Mercedes-Benz A-Class caught testing

Mercedes-Benz A-Class AMG prototype caught testing

    By  Jonathon Ramsey RSS feed

    Posted Apr 16th 2012 1:28PM

The Mercedes-Benz A25 AMG has disrobed almost completely compared to the last time we saw it. It makes minimal changes to the A-Class form, just a fiercer set of wheels and, under the last remaining camo, a brace of larger air intakes in front and a restyled diffuser in back. We'd also expect those oval pipe finishers to be swapped for trademark AMG quad pipes come production time.

The engine is what will make the real difference, with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder rumored to be rated as high as 350 horsepower and sending that glory to all four wheels through a dual-clutch gearbox. Those specs mean the A25 AMG is a shoo-in for heaps of comparos with the all-wheel drive, 340-horsepower Audi RS3, the driving prowess of the 256-horsepower Volkswagen Golf R and the rumored 320-horsepower BMW 135i hatch. Check it out in our gallery of high-res spy photos.

    RC:

I have more information on the new A class:

Official start is Sept. 15th in Germany, pre-orders in Germany can be made starting June 2012.

Most powerful model will be the A250 with 211 hp.

A45 AMG is due 2013 but pre-orders could start mid September or latest end of 2012.

Yes, A45 AMG, not A25 AMG. Smiley

Current power figure is 340 hp, turbo charged 4-cyl. engine and AWD is very likely. Price tag will be around 50k EUR (currently 48k EUR incl. VAT for the base car are apparently spoken for but this could change...).

Mercedes wants to make this car a success, it will be very competitive vs. the 1M and the Audi RS3.

He he he...who said that Rennteam isn't the source for news? Smiley

AMG just announced a couple of days ago that the new A25 AMG will actually be called A45 AMG. Smiley

Also price tag, power figure and AWD were quite correct too. Not that I want to brag... Smiley

I am actually thinking of getting one for my wife...if she likes it.

    0-100 kph in 4.9 seconds...not bad for a car below 50k EUR.

Omg, I cannot wait, this car is great. I just got their flyer in the mail. Go Mercedes

    Re: Mercedes A25 AMG

Aaron are you going to get one ?

    Re: Mercedes A25 AMG

I am actually seriously considering one, but I am in school again for two years soon so I do not want to stretch the wallet.

    Re: Mercedes A25 AMG

You're going back to school? Great, what are you doing a masters degree?

This just got seriously off topic. Well don't over extend your wallet mate, be smart about you're finances while studying, there will be time in the future to get any car you want.

    Re: Mercedes A25 AMG

Yep, hopefully. I am awaiting my acceptance for a MSc in Arch. A speedy two year program in Hamburg in English kiss

Given the high costs of living in Hamburg, I may consider moving back home and commuting.. While it would still cost quite a bit in gas and time (mind you school is only 4 days a week likely) and biggest loss in this option would be not being fully able to chill out in Hamburg with friends etc.. I'd always have to mind myself and drive back home etc. Still got a few months to decide broken heart

Great news ! I finish my major in Arch in December and I'm looking at possible programs to get started on my masters next year. I'm still debating wether I should do the masters abroad right away or if I should get a year or a year and a half work experience and then do the masters.

We've gone way off topic here I'm afraid Smiley

I should have posted here instead of the Panamera topic...

I went to test drive an A Class A250 Sport, and we're going to order an A45 AMG as soon as it's available as it looks like the perfect compromise for us (4 doors, AWD, nice exhaust note, etc).

Any more news on this car ? All I see is power around 350 HP, cost around 50k€... do you insiders know more about it ? blush

Also on the looks... will it look any different from the A250 Sport ?

    Thx !

Quite sure it will look different from the A250 Sport.. watch for the next gen E-class AMG model to get a better idea for design language. As for the A45 AMG, i think 50k EUR sounds about right... not sure if it will actually have 350hp. I heard the same, but i just cannot imagine it.... I think the eventual model will have 320hp, which is still epic in my books. I really love this new car, but I'm also awaiting the next gen Audi A3 seden version. So nice!

    Re: Mercedes A25 AMG

Latest power figure I heard was 340 hp. Price is still below 50k EUR but probably not 47...k but more like 49900 EUR.

AWD is, according to latest rumors, not optional but standard.

Well, a FWD 350 hp hatch would be insane. Oh wait, Ford did that before and it wasn't too shabby... Still, 4WD is the sane option for such a car, especially when year-round usability is a factor.

    Re: Mercedes A25 AMG

I think the A45 will be quite a performer but surprisingly, the press hasn't really noticed the BMW M135i xDrive. This car is an amazing product for little money with exceptional performance and stealth looks. I am actually considering replacing our Mini Countryman Cooper S with it, if the dealer makes a good offer. The M135i xDrive reminds me a lot of my fun time with the Lancia Delta HF Integrale: Small hatchback with amazing performance and AWD.

The M135i xDrive is a perfect package. The sound isn't bad either My wife is looking for a car like this.
Unfortunately the delivery time sounds quite horrible: first slot is jun 13.
I would prefer the M135i xDrive compared with the A45 since the BMW has the 6cyl.
    I really don't like 4 cyl.
