Re: 981 - impressions and infos from Geneva

Porsche-Jeck: And yes, the Agate grey looks great, but after six years with Seal grey and three years with Arctic silver (GT3)  my better half insists on something different Smiley Aqua blue, Carrara white and Anthrazitbraun are short listed clolours -  choice is changing hourly

We'd be much the same if we were having a new Porsche, having had two Boxsters, arctic silver and cobalt blue and the Cayman, aqua blue, Linda's Jazz is blue as is my clockwork rat Yaris, so white would be our definite choice, but I'd still stick with blue interior. Colour is such a personal thing I'd be wary of starting a discussion thread about the subject as the best colour for your car is the one Mrs PJ likes best Smiley

A change is as good as a rest. Or so it's said. Smiley

Re: 981 - impressions and infos from Geneva

Congratulations on your 997, dreamcar! Your Cayman was a beauty, but you'll definitely enjoy the new car. You deserve it, drive it in good health.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 981. Currently own a limited edition 987S Porsche Design Edition 2 which I absolutely love, but I can't deny the charms of the new Boxster. I thought about a Cayenne, Panamera or a 991, but the Cayenne is more common than carrots in this neck of the woods [desert? Our dealer has sold well over 1000 958 Cayennes in their first year of launch], the Panamera is on the verge of a facelift/short generation life and I can't justify the exorbitantly high price of the 991 compared to the 997 despite its improvements. I'm also definitely biased regarding the Boxster given my experience with and passion for the one I have. Maybe a Cayman, but it won't come to Kuwait before January 2013. Tack on a custom order and any potential Cayman I'd like is more than a year away.

Which brings me back to the 981. I tailored the car with a tremendous deal of options [details in a later post if I order it :D]. They initially offered me a May allocation/build date with late August delivery which I was fine with [birthday on September 3, haha], but then realized some of the options I ordered won't be available until November... in which case I'd get the car delivered in January 2013. It's a beautiful spec that had the salesmen in awe and telling me to order and wait for it, but a part of me is put off by the eight month wait. We've been allocated thirty cars a year which is underwhelming since the Boxster is finally receiving the attention it deserves in Kuwait, but this will at least make it a rarity on the streets.

What do you guys think? Too long of a wait or definitely worth it?

...hm, if you love the 987 PDE2, why can't you wait then...?

I'm wondering if the new car is worth the wait or if I should examine other alternatives based on other peoples' feedback and experience with the new car. That's all. Smiley

Well, since you asked [too much to list the full spec, need to copy/paste from the online configurator]... It's a lime gold metallic Boxster S with agate grey and lime gold bi-color interior with all the bells and whistles - PDK, Sport Chrono, PASM, PTV, PSE, Bose; name it and it's most likely there! What do you think?

Re: 981 - impressions and infos from Geneva

if I was ordering lime gold, I would want to have seen it in the metal -- pics alone do not tell anywhere near the full story

Re: 981 - impressions and infos from Geneva

Thanks for the Geneva report P-J! I had similar concerns about styling from some early photos, great to read the design looks really nice in person. Know exactly what you mean after finally seeing the 991 a few days ago.

Congrats dreamcar! Sounds like a great deal on a car you can both enjoy for many years! wink Also happy I'm not the only creature of habit,  the last 20+ years all in shades of silver or blue. indecision

I agree; I thought it would look more like a green-toned subtle gold in the metal but it turned out to be quite a bit more [for lack of a better adjective] unique when I got up close to it in Geneva. Granted, silver is a true Porsche color and truly brings out all the car's lines while highlighting their sporty edge, but something about the lime gold seemed so different and attractive; I prefer it more on the 981 than the 991.

I also considered aqua blue with agate/pebble grey [beige is so ho-hum], basalt black with agate/amber, or agate grey with agate grey/lime gold or amber. Black is badass but conceals the lines that define this car; I would've gone for a red interior in one context or other but it seems so much more garish and in-your-face than previous reds.

Congrats DC; as you noted perhaps we are all fated to own a 911 at least once...  wink  Enjoy in good health and  hopefully about now some gorgeous spring weather.

(and to avoid extending this off-topic mini-thread that was intended to be 981-based, you could post your impressions in a new thread.... with pics... hint... Smiley )
