It's a lovely house and I like the idea that the cantilevered upper floor serves as the carport for the 993 Targa.
What I like less is the way the design distances the resident from the environment. I'm sure the view is nice but the main living area appears to have no interaction with the outdoors. You can't step out from the living area with a glass of wine and throw a ball for your dog. You have to go downstairs to do that, thus cutting yourself off from the life of the house.
This is what I think of as a theoretical house--good in theory, but is it really livable?

i did a knock off of a FL wright Usonian - The Penfield house - anyway it uses a car port and i have to say i love the car port. you get to see your car from many rooms yet even in the harshest of winter days, the cars are never frosted. Snow cverage is minimal and most importantly your car does not warm and thus induce melting of salt & corrosion.
great pic's of house & car.thx

Here's a nice one we've worked on (did the lighting) a few years ago: http://s51829.gridserver.com/pictures.html
The garage accomodates about 10-12 cars. And since it's right at the lake, the property is nicely linked to the boat garage...

moose:This is an amazing design. Do you know the name of the architect (or the company) that designed it? Does this style of house have a name?
I don't remember but i'll try to look it up for you. As far as the style it's mostly contemporary but it has a hint of mid century modern.

With the land prices at an all time high in Zollikon (not to mention the rest of the "gold coast") I'm not sure I be able to buy the land to build it . Is there even any land left to build on???
Yes, the prices here are insane, but I think the peak has already been passed. I would expect a slight downturn now...
You need to pay CHF 2 - 5 million for a decent piece of land (ca. 1000 m2) and the price will heavily depend on the distance to the lake, the distance to Zürich and if you have lake view. The local tax level will naturally be a factor too High premiums for the low tax areas.
There are not too many spots left, but they have knocked down many old houses to make room for new. On our street there has been a lot of activity in the last 2-3 years with new houses being built. From single family houses to multi family apartment houses (5-6 apartments). Interestingly these apartments have been on the market for quite some time, in one example well over a year, before attracting a buyer. Very, very nice places, but serious $$$. Which indicates the market is slowing down somewhat... and the prices are too high
