Honestly I cannot answer that. I haven't driven my own car like I did with the prototypes on the track :)

The latest update is for hybrid system calibration, and mostly it's for the benefits of early cars, the later cars mostly already have the software. So in theory when I get my car updated I will feel some difference as mine is one of the early ones.

Oh here is almost a lap of Paul Ricard from yours truly. Not even closet to a competent track driver, not the perfect line, but did well enough to extend a lead of 30 seconds over the other 2 drivers behind me, that's why we slowed way down at the end to wait for them. Think I touched 274km/hr before braking on the back straight, could have gone a bit faster but after spinning 3 times at the exit of the left hander onto the the back straight, I backed off somewhere there just so I can get some decent traction on the slippery exit.

Whoopsy. I can see that you have the new helmet on, and that it has the HANS anchors. I guess you have the 6 point belts in both your 918 and the RS, so you should consider to buy a HANS device. If you see a few videos on youtube where the impact difference is illustrated you will know what I mean. It does give you a bit of restriction in regards to turning your head, but you get used to it.

Great speeds this car is achieving Smiley I talked to a WEC driver last at Paul Ricard. He told me that in the LMP cars they take the turn after the straight at full throttle, that is +300km/h. I do not know how fast you could go there, but I get dizzy just thinking about it.

Yes, that is him. I recognize his voice Smiley Great drive around the Dijon track . The sound is fantastic . According to the post below the video he achieved 320 km/h on the straight Smiley  With the RS , it was 256 km/h  and my brother who races a CUP says he gets to 265 km/h

Yes. The Stilo I brought along got dropped on the airplane and I didn't trust it anymore until it gets checked out. I quickly bought the Stand21 Porsche Motorsports one to use. Didn't bring my HANS device this trip. No one used that thing at the track this time, not even the factory drivers doing hot laps in the Cup car.

For LMP1 testing, the chicane on the back straight is not used, without it the 918 would have hit 300+km/hr before the sweeping right hander. In this video I believe I took that turn at around 110-115km/hr, first day morning in the dry it was taken at 130+, the pros in the 918 took it around 140-150km/hr. No speedo in the Cup cars so I can't tell you what speed they were taking that turn, but I know it is for sure a lot faster than in the 918 with the G-force I experienced.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Oh one more thing, we were running the 1C-V2 configuration on Paul Ricard, the whole 5.8something km, with the chicane 2/3 way down the Mistral straight. Of the lap, even when it was hot lapping with the pros, the 918 spent a total of perhaps 2 seconds on the back straight above 265km/hr, so the whole lap is virtually run with the whole 887HP package. I think Porsche did their homework figuring out where the sweet spot is to disengage the front e-motor.

    Whoopsy,

what are your impressions regarding the battery usage during these hot laps on that relatively long circuit?

    Boyko23:

    Whoopsy,

Impossible to drain the battery completely in one lap. Not even the pros. Maybe perhaps in 4 laps of Paul Ricard, and only in the hands of a top top pro, and in the dry.

As I have explained earlier and before, Hot Lap mode only recharges during regen braking, and the car has an extra 'step' in Hot Lap mode. Only the top top drivers can keep their foot down to the metal for long periods of time for a lap of Pau Ricard in the 918, dipping into the extra 'juice'. But with foot the metal, the car is so powerful that they had to constantly deal with the car twitching around at full throttle, easier to do in the dry than wet'. While there are quite few places for extended full throttle sessions, they heavy braking part that comes after do captures back a lot of energy.

As students, we mostly run on Race mode in the dry and Sports mode in the wet, so the battery level barely dipped as we don't have the skills to control the car at full throttle and the car recharges itself back up with engine power.

Paul-Ricard1C-V2-10.ef687c3b39d9224bbfbb380fdfd49704.pngFor myself, I kept the foot down on the front straight, then at exit after "S" de la Verrerie down to Virage de L'Hotel, then I don't put the foot down again for a short burst from Virage de la Sainte-Beaume and then the first part of Mistral straight, the pros has the skills to do short bursts during that complex, I don't only partial throttles. I also do full throttle for the second half of Mistral, then from Courbe des Signes to Double Droite De Beausset, a short burst at exit, then I don't until the front straight again. Pros of course had more chances, but that also means they can capture more on braking.

In the wet, a lot of opportunities for full throttle is gone simply because of lack of traction, the throttle is being moderated a lot, pretty much only when the car is pointing straight can the throttle be pinned.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

That looks like a hell of a track to drive. Provides opportunity to use the car in every phase i.e. handling, throttle control, braking, trail braking and top speed. That must have been one hell of a blast. A priceless experience.kiss

Found this funny add for a 918 in the used market:

"Price is POA, so forget the old adage: you will have to ask. Based on its condition, our guesstimate would be somewhere in the region of US$1.8-2.0 million. In this rarefied market, the original price is not a factor; your account has lots of zeroes anyway or else you're not in the market. Simple as that. "

I guess I should have taken that 918 I got offered... SmileySmileySmiley  At the current interest rate, I could have driven it for 6 months (mandatory holding time) and then sold it for a profit. Smiley Couldn't risk it though...
