It was on the rear reflector up to the 964.

Thats right, it means that after 964 (incuding 964) there was no PORSCHE lettering on the rear for 4 generations of 911

It is probably juste glued on with tape. So there should be no problem to take it off.

I have done it before on my 997.1 and I could do it using my fingers.

Dental floss is the recommended tool.

The letters are (most likely) stick-ons, just like the Boxster, Cayman, Carrera, etc. lettering on all recent cars. Easily removed. Best done early in life of car, otherwise letter will leave very subtle shadow. Come to think of it, maybe it is best to leave them on for a few years and then; then you will be left with very subtle (barely visible) shadow Porsche lettering. Smiley

Things I do not like in 991:

    1. mirrors are much nicer in 997.  to my eye the mirrors on 991 kill the whole car, their form and positioning is freakish :)  the black bottom portion of the mirror works on cayenne, but to bring it to 911 is retarded.
    2. the whole design feel of the car is more elongated rather than rounded, exterior and interior both.
    3. why did the interior have to look so much like panamera inside? they're inbreeding the identity.
    4. it feels like the best AM ever produced, the porsche identity is lost.
that being said I realize that handling, accelerating, fuel economy, overall technology is much better, but it's off my shopping list...

It looks like my post disappeared. Only the quoted text is left...

Second time this happens in the last few days.

Nah, i've removed decals on 20+ year old cars before.. they completely buff out and after a detail its 100% gone. With strong quality Porsche paint it should be no problem. I'd remove those silly big PORSCHE decals right away, actually just leave Carrera (S) etc on there..

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Well, I had a black Boxster S some years ago. After the extended part of the B broke off (typical), I removed the lettering. Yet, after 2-3 polishing and buffing sessions, I could still see the shadow of the script. The fact is, you can't bring the weathered and micro-scratched exposed paint to the same condition as the paint that had been protected by the lettering for a number of years. To say nothing of the chemical impact of the glue.

Anyway, we're getting seriously off-topic here.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

    Bodykit is hideous...

I finally saw the 991 over the weekend. 8 of them actually.

I think the 991 looks amazing from the front all the time, the side profile looks great, and the rear is questionable. If I don't really study the design and details of it, it looks great, but when I pick it apart I don't like it that much. Overall it's a great lowslung design, much better in person than in pictures. The interior was very nice in it's own right, but I sat in a 997 right next to it for comparison sake, and found the 997 interior to feel much roomier, more open, and it had more of that focused sports car feel. Now thinking about it, the 997 has one of the best interiors of any car on the market.

In fact, comparing each of the cars side by side, I found I like pretty much every aspect of the 997 better.

So my final design verdict for the 991: astonishing car all around, but the 997 has more of the old school classic 911 feel (which it should because it's older). Some may like that old school feel (as do I) and prefer it over the 991.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Maybe I'm a minority here but if that's ruining a 911 sign me up for some destruction. I like it .angry

    Sans the interior though.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

The techart design is not perfect, but it rids the 991 from its dullness

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

This Techart kit is already one of the better ones coming from that company over the years, not perfect but still quite a bit pleasing to the eyes.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

This kit is making the 991 looks like 997's techart kit......  and that front lamp cover....a bit out dated look...  don't know if that is a good thing or not...

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Love the bodykit, the interior is too much....but the bodykit looks good IMO

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Funny you point that out. I don't think that hip bulge has been discussed much. It's actually a new line as far as 911's go and I'm not sure I like it. The upper line of the rear hips normally tapers down to the rear bumper. This rise is almost boxer/cayman like. Hmm...

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Nice company Matthias Malmedie has when he drive the 991 Carrera S Cabrio smiley. Sorry - only in German, but I think it will be quite interesting to watch anyway

I dont like at all that techart kit. Even the wheels are just ugly and very tuning style, no taste at all !!!

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

A bit late to the party, but I FINALLY see a 991 in person today. Not sure if I like the new butt, looks gigantic with the smaller tail lamps compared with 997. Interior is very nice, front is OK too even with the new crocked lamps.

Interior space doesn't seems that much bigger than the 997 but from the driver seat the car seems and drive bigger than 997 for sure.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Compared to the 997 it does look large, but compared to 99% of modern cars, it actually looks very sleek and slim. Just a little awkward and tall looking for my tasted. I agree with you on the interior that the car feels larger, but I actually feel like the 997 has a more if not spacious, open interior. Does anybody else agree?

+1.  I think it has a lot to do with the size and shape of the central console, as well as the more slanted windscreen.
