Two things I realy realy don't like in 991 - DRL's design and this ugly lettering " P O R S C H E " on the rear that you actualy cannot get removed by the factory Smiley

Well, the ''PORSCHE'' lettering at the back is a part of the 911 (and Porsche's in that respect) tradition which was only broken by 997 and now is back again. so get used to it if fast! Smiley

I think I must disagree that the tradition was broken by 997. Accordind the video(that was posted couple of posts before - "Histoy Of Sound") and my personal experience with 911's the P O R S C H E lettering was only on early 911's . As shown on the video we can clearly see that 930, 964, 993, 996 and 997 have no P O R S C H E lettering on the rear exept first 911 in line.

It was on the rear reflector up to the 964.

Thats right, it means that after 964 (incuding 964) there was no PORSCHE lettering on the rear for 4 generations of 911

    ^

    Thanks! ;)

So you can clearly see that even the 993 had it in the same way as 964, embed in the reflector!

That means only two generations, 996 and 997 didn't have it!

Nowadays, they want to reestablish that connection with the past!

And I actually like it! Keep the badge in front and the lettering at the back! It would be wrong to have a badge at both sides!

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Absolutely no problem would be if Porsche would offer to remove the lettering as an option.....but there is no such option. You can remove Carrera S lettering and left only 911 or you can remove both, but P O R S C H E will stay.

On my 991 it will be removed anyway....if not from the factory so I will remove it aftermarket....I will leave only 911 badge Smiley

You can see something clearly that I don't see at all.  993 has the rear reflector, but it doesn't have any lettering as far as I can see.  There was no reflector there from 1964 to 1973, so the only years to say Porsche there were 1974 to 1994 (fewer than half the production years).

There was a PORSCHE lettering on the 993 reflector too. It was in some kind of transparent form and not very visible in pictures.

I don't mind whether it says Porsche on the back or not. I'm too busy enjoying the view from the driver's seat!

I like the subtle Porsche logo on the rear window which I see in my rear view mirror :)

It is probably juste glued on with tape. So there should be no problem to take it off.

I have done it before on my 997.1 and I could do it using my fingers.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Things I do not like in 991:

    1. mirrors are much nicer in 997.  to my eye the mirrors on 991 kill the whole car, their form and positioning is freakish :)  the black bottom portion of the mirror works on cayenne, but to bring it to 911 is retarded.
    2. the whole design feel of the car is more elongated rather than rounded, exterior and interior both.
    3. why did the interior have to look so much like panamera inside? they're inbreeding the identity.
    4. it feels like the best AM ever produced, the porsche identity is lost.
that being said I realize that handling, accelerating, fuel economy, overall technology is much better, but it's off my shopping list...

Going to be interesting to follow the sales of the 991.  My local dealer has--in a bit over two weeks--delivered six and received deposits on twelve more...

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

I love the 993 style mirrors on the 991. The black lower part works well with black wheels.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

I went to see the 991 yesterday, and I have to admit that in the flesh, it looks a lot better than on the pictures.
Details that always struck me as awkward on photo's seem to blend into the overall shape really nicely in reality.

The interior was snug and purposeful, just as you expect from a 911... all in all, I wouldn't mind owning one! :-)

On another subject, the dealer had two GT2 RS's (red and silver)  and a 997 GT2 (all black)... a sign of the recession, or just coincidence? I also was taken aback that now more than half the amount f cars in the showroom was either Cayenne or Panamera... so much for the 911 as crown jewel! :-(
