Local Porsche gathering and route (photos)
Last weekend we gathered together here as we usually do from time to time to go on a driving route together to enjoy the cars, have a nice lunch together and enjoy the company, and do something afterwards car related. Thought I'd share some photos as each time we try to go on a different place in this region. This time it was a 200km route towards the interior, on rural mountain roads and a river canyon.
The lager photos were made by me with my phone and the smaller ones were made by my co-pilot.
We started out at a new museum that was built in Santiago de Compostela (the city were the Way of St. James leads to, the most important catholic pilgrimage and were the apostole St. James is burried in the cathedral). We had breakfast in one of the rooms of the museum. There were 39 cars total, including three FIATs amongst our ranks
Then we headed out to do the route. Starting with a stretch of highway.
The mid-way we stopped to stretch the legs at a monastery in the mountains of the Orense province. Called the Monasterio de Santa Maia de Oseira, it dates back 900 years.
nice contrast of old tech in the background and new tech in foreground
Back on route we had to slow down for pedestrians that were on a slower pace enjoying the day
BTW, you see a Panamera in front of me in many pics, that is the lead car of the guy who planned the route. Let me tell you that in the right hands, the Panamera is amazing for such a car, it was a diesel car and its big, yet it handled its own on the mountain road's bends (which is not its natural enviroment). The asfalt was bumpy, ondulating type not potholes, and I due to my low front with the -20mm I was bottoming out the front lip on the bends to follow the Pan! under breaking and with the bumps I would scrape the front lip on the asfalt entering the tight bends, and several times he and I left the rest of the cars behind due to the pace... thats with a Pan. Driver was very good (has a 996GT3RS for track) and the torquey diesel engine for the tight bends and the higher front end for the surface ondulaions helped it, but still in the right hands it could keep up with any average driver on any sportcar. I have driven it before and now it handles great fo such a car, but I was very impressed how well sorted the chasis is for this enviroment.
Reaching a river canyon were a well know white wine is made on its sides, the "steps" you see on the sides are vineyards, now in winter without leaves, and that are know for being hard to cultivate due to the rough terrain.
We reach the place on the riverside in the Lugo province now were we stop to have some wine and appeizers at mid morning, talk a bit, etc.
We grab the cars again to do the rest of the route before luch that will be around around 3:00pm
And so we reach our destination which is an Auto Salon back in Santiago (Coruña province now), that had a Porsche retrospective with some amazing roads cars from Porsche's history like 959, 2.7RS, 964RS, CareraGT, GT2RS etc. We first had lunch on a reserved pat of the second level of the Salon overlooking the Porsche part of the expo. And afterwards we walked down and saw the expo and its cars before heading back home at night.
Hope you enjoyed the pics!
Next outing will organise will probably be around MayI will share photos of it if you like again
