New V12 sports car for Geneva, Record financial results.

Ferrari has confirmed plans to unveil an "extreme" V12 sports car at the Geneva Motor Show.

Likely the 620 GT, Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo hinted it will be "a revolutionary new car that delivers extreme performance and unprecedented power output." That's a little vague, but previous reports have suggested the car will feature a 6.3-liter V12 engine with approximately 710 PS (522 kW / 700 hp). It will likely be connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to the rear wheels through an electronically locking rear differential.

Ferrari also announced they sold 7,195 cars last year which enabled them to have record revenues of €2.251 ($2.96) billion with a net profit of €209 ($275) million.

Re: New V12 sports car for Geneva, Record financial results.

A true Ferrari supercar with proper V12 is a must have in their portfolio. Judging by what they've done with the 599 and 458, this thing will again dominate the supercar niche. Time for Porsche to produce their supercar CGT successor. I'm hoping the new F V12 will have at least 800hp with serious performance and emotion like only a Ferrari can.

The new Ferrari in Geneva will be the 599 successor. Smiley

New Enzo won't be much more powerful, certainly not 900hp, but a lot lighter with kers boost function and a lot more compact than current Enzo.

My sources say otherwise mate. We shall see though...

Re: New V12 sports car for Geneva, Record financial results.

    €2.251 ($2.96) billion with a net profit of €209 ($275) million.

Hmm, I'd like to know if that net figure also includes the F1 team & operations because I can presume this alone costs $250MM a year to run.

Also surprised to hear they made ~7,200 cars. I thought their production capabilities were lower. In 5,000 per year range.

Re: New V12 sports car for Geneva, Record financial results.

The F1 team costs more 500m a year. It used to cost circa one billion back in 2004!

7150 cars is also plausible. Most of the parts are still hand made mind you.

You will know for the new 599 and its 740 hp very soon in Geneva.

And you will find out for the new Enzo in Paris.

    I already know, mate.

    Dear God, half a billion?!

I remember meeting Michael Andretti & Bryan Herta back in 2004 when our company sponsored one of their Indy cars. I asked him about the cost of competition in F1 vs. Indy, and he told me the team's running cost including salaries for staff, drivers, and the cars w/spares was in the neighborhood of $15-20MM per season. He said F1, to field a back marker team was $120-$150MM a year. A competitive team; $175-$200MM. A contending team; $200-$250MM.

Ferrari Enzo successor to pump 920hp - report

New flagship to churn out near-Veyron power at near-Dino weight

About a decade and a half after Porsche eschewed its lightness-and-small-displacement strategy and built a five-liter sports racer to take down Ferrari at Le Mans, a different sort of war kicked off between the two marques: a battle for supremacy in the super-supercar market.

In 1984, Ferrari built a radically modified twin-turbo 308 GTB with an eye toward Group B road-racing rules. Porsche countered the resultant 288 GTO with the mighty 959, which launched at about the same time as the 288's successor, the practically skeletal and infinitely loopier F40.

When Ferrari launched the Enzo Ferrari a decade ago, Porsche countered with a cost-no-object hypercar of its own, the Carrera GT.

Now that Porsche is set to produce the V8/hybrid 918 Spyder, featuring 718 gas-electric horsepower, Ferrari's Enzo successor couldn't be shown up by a mere Porsche. It just wouldn't do. So the new car, rumored to appear this fall, will feature 920 hp, 800 of those horses developed from a 7.3-liter evolution of the 599 replacement's V12, reports Automobile. The additional 120 ponies arrive electrically, via a kinetic-energy-recovery system.

Given that Ferrari is shooting for reduced weight, don't be surprised if the new car--unshockingly rumored to be called the F70--will weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,500 pounds, about three-quarters of a ton less than the slightly more powerful Bugatti Veyron 16.4. Buff the mind's eyeball with the potential acceleration numbers. Now buff some more. Yep.

The salary of Schumacher alone was in the 70 million area back then. Ferrari always had a vast budget even by F1 standards.

This is going to be a great 12 months with the 599 successor, Enzo successor, and McLaren's "Megamac". I am pretty certain 2013 will see a 458 Scuderia as well.

We've already seen pictures of the 458 Challenge, so yes, it would stand to reason a 458 Scud is in the pipeline for 2013.

Ferrari 620 GT to be revealed 22nd February, alleged rear image caught

Rumors have surfaced that the successor to the Ferrari 599 GTB will be revealed to the world on the 22nd February, it follows a dealer & client presentation that will occur one day before.

Additionally, a couple of pictures have surfaced that have drawn our attention. The first is a picture of what appears to be the bare back end has surfaced with most intel pointing towards it being a prototype of the unreleased model. The second is an unofficial sketch which was posted by Teamspeed that they say is a pretty accurate depiction.

As for the name, reports have stated it will be called the Ferrari 620 GT although the only confirmation we have had from Maranello is that it will be powered by a V12 engine. The engine in question is believed to be a 6.3-liter V12 engine with approximately 710 PS (522 kW / 700 hp) that will be mated with seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This power will be passed solely to the rear wheels using a electronically locking rear differential.

I believe most of the F1 costs are paid through sponsorship.

I thought the 918 had hp in the mid 500 range.

Now, that seems a bit odd given that the 660 CV FF has a top speed of 335+ km/h and that the Aventador boasts 350. I would assume that Ferrari would at least want to match the big Lambo's top speed, if not exceed it by a bit.

Indeed, but aerodynamics probably hamper top speed. Acceleration is what is fun!

0 to 100 kmh will be slower than the Lambo, which is normal thanks to its 4WD system, everything else, the Fezza tops it.

You can always take the bus if you can't manage. Smiley Just pulling your leg. Truth be told, extreme supercars and hypercars are meant for talented drivers and not for use in attrocious weather conditions. The magic of purity, even though the electronics would save the day in the end unbless one is talented and brave enough, or stupid enough, to switch them off! Porsche does the same thing with its RS cars; they are not meant as daily drivers. Ferrari has the FF for the ski-goers anyway, even though I disagree with that decision. The power numbers are still on the air, but I believe they will be even higher than those mentioned.

All we need to do now is wait till the 29th in order to find out the details of the "new 599".
