Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

Or, should I say "I drive a cab."

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

I usually say, just another car

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

    a gallardo..

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

Woo - my earlier post was a real rant - sorry!

I think 'a sports car' is a safe option. If they then ask which one, then it's not inappropriate to say something like 'a Porsche 911'. Only the enthusiasts will want to know chapter and verse about the model, spec etc so probably best not to volunteer this info unless the other person really will appreciate a detailed answer.

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

When asked what I drive, I usually respond with "Today?"

But that's just because I like to be a smart ass. Otherwise I tell people I have a couple of old Porsche's and a Range Rover.

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

    I tell them "A beetle."

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

Last time I told a girl I drove a Volkswagen and I got great results (see the story by searching for it on Rennteam)

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

It comes up all the time around here. I just answer "a Porsche 911". The response is either "wow" or "you look like a Porsche guy". Which makes me wonder, what does a "Porsche guy" look like, and are there any "Porsche gals" around?

No offense to any women on this board but, from all the Porsche people that I know and have interfaced with, the common perception is that a Porsche has traditionally been a "man's car" while other brands such as Mercedes, Jaguar and BMW are perceived as "feminine."

I'm indifferent on the issue. If I saw a hot girl driving a CGT (highly unlikely), I'd probably ask her to marry me on the spot.

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

I just say Porsche though in San Diego Porsche's are a common thing so it's not really that big of a deal.

Porsche may have been percieved as a "man's car" in the past, but, that all changed when the Boxster came along. Porsche people find it to be extremely feminine and it doesn't help when 70% of buyers are women. Whether it was intentional or not, it does soften up the brand.

Come to think of it, all Porchephiles I know don't even believe a Boxster is a Porsche...which I fully agree.

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

    A car.

The only true Porsche is the 356.

A Boxster isn't a Porsche hm? I disagree on this (greatly), especially with the current 987 line. The 986 I could understand being feminine, since it looks more feminine than the current 987 (had a 986 base in '01). The new 987 IMO is more muscular and less feminine. But when it comes to the "is it a Porsche?" issue, it 100% is.

Oddly enough, it's more fun to drive than my 996TT.

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

Since the Boxster and the 911 share almost 50% of their parts how can one deny the Boxster Porsche status?

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

if i want them to 'know' i say 911. if not i pretend i didnt hear the question...

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

answer : a bicycle, my wife have a car, i only drive it

Re: Poll: When people ask what do you drive . . .

simply: "a sportcar"... Could be anything from a Hyundai Coupe to a Radical SR8 so that way people can't judge you or come to conclusions about you by the car you drive.
If questioned further then "a 911" in a tone with all naturality that indicates that any [censored] would know what that is, if they don't know then they will be too embarrased to ask further and conversation stops there, and if they do know and show interest then its worthwhile continuing the conversation and sharing some P-talk...
