Panamera Facelift...according to latest info, not in 2012

Just got this in from a source which never has been wrong in the past: No Panamera facelift in 2012.

Don't nail me on this one, I don't take any responsibility if this information is wrong but so far, the source has been always 100% accurate.

Mine source, direct from P., told me the same.

But - But - But - there are speculations that new models will be introduced in december and not after the summer holidays. That would mean MJ 2013 will be introduced in 12.2012 and not 08.2012.

For me, hard to believe, because the machine change could be done in the period the employees are on vacation.

Since the facelift doesn't require a production machinery update, just a few software tweaks and some smaller changes here and there, it is possible that a facelift could be introduced end of the year.

I don't know however how Porsche would handle the introduction of completely new models because you are right, this would require a shutdown or at least a substantial slow down of production and the summer vacation is just perfect for that.

Personally, like yourself, I doubt it (the end of year MY change) but with VW at the steering wheel, everything is possible. Smiley

Does somebody know how Volkswagen is handling MY changes ? When and how ?

They just introduced the A4/5 facelifts in the middle of the MY (December/January).

I was referring to MY changes...when does VW (or Audi for that matter) introduce MY changes ?

Re: Panamera Facelift...according to latest info, not in 2012

It would make sense to have a consolidated period in the whole group. In the future they will share much more parts and processes so they need to adapt the production to this changes. For sure we need a shutdown either in summer or in winter. In summer they have two weeks more time. Maybe they will have a longer winter vacation break.

Modern production systems have a continuous and flexible adaption. So maybe we need in the future only few days shutdown for machine upgrades.

...depending of course on where in the world they're made (VWs): summer holiday shutdown in the Southern Hemisphere is in December...

Not sure if all VWs are built in the North - I know South Africa builds a lot of the RHD 3-series BMWs and C Series Mercs...

Didn't Porsche begin shipping  the new Cayenne in late winter - early  spring? If so, a end of year announcement on the facelifted Panamera might be a possibility.

Re: Panamera Facelift...according to latest info, not in 2012

Cayenne market introduction in Germany was in May 2010. May and June are typical market introduction dates for new models, the new 991 was really a pretty weird exception and I know that many dealers weren't too happy with it (introducing a sports car in winter time...).

I think that there have been some strategical changes at Porsche but the consequences remain to be seen.

We certainly can't be 100% sure anymore that new models will be presented shortly before or after the summer vacation, meaning May, June or July.

The Panamera has been introduced in September 2009.

Back to the Panamera facelift: According to a second source, I just came off the phone, the Panamera facelift will not come 2012, another confirmation. Apparently there seem to have been some issues in the facelift decision process between a more substantial facelift and a less substantial one because of the possible "early" introduction of the next generation in 2015. We are going to see the results...2013.  indecision

Thanks RC. The 991 intro on Feb 4th in the US is certainly not the best time for test drives.  Hopefully, winter weather will not postpone launch event.  The issue I have with Porsche is they announce a new car or facelift and you have to wait months before you actually see the car in the dealers showroom.

Porsche NA seems to have another issue too: Apparently they don't have enough cars in stock for immediate pick-up. I recently read an article that US Porsche stock is pretty limited.

Dealer inventories are extremely low on certain models.  The Cayenne and Cayenne S has to be ordered  with a three - four month wait. You might get lucky and find one, but may not have all the options or the color you want. The base Cayenne is the most difficult to find. Dealers may not even have one for a test drive.Cayenne Hybrids inventories are a little better with more options. The Panamera seems to be in better shape. My delaer has a nice selection of all models. As expected 911, Boxster and Cayman inventories are low due to the transition to the new models. I think some of the availability issues are a result of  PCNA  over reacting to what happened in 2009.  They stuffed the dealer channel with cars and were forced to offer step discounts on cars.  From what I have heard, PCNA is addressing the Cayenne availability issue by making more cars available to the dealers.

If by "close" you mean 2013, yes...very close. Smiley  Smiley

I didn't open the thread for no reason...just as a hint. Smiley

Btw: Auto, Motor und Sport today changed their Panamera facelift report (the article is actually older, even if the date says Jan 20th) , the presentation date says now 2013. I just hope they didn't copy it from us. Smiley

My guess is (since they already do the winter testing now): The facelift will be announced 2012 but cars will be available at dealers 2013. The question is only: When ? January 2013, April 2013 ? My guess is: Pretty early.

New photos emerging.... Lines seem more fluid, although it could be due to the excessive cladding!

I heard that a light touch up to the rear lights is in order too; probably the introduction of LEDs for the reversing lights and an Audi-esque light bar similar to the 981/991.

Looks like the upper part of the lower air intakes will be the same size as the lower part of the headlights. I really hope they carve a proper identity for the Panamera instead of ripping the mustache indicator/DRL unit from the 991 and plastering it on the Panamera the way they used the 997's units on the current model.

Re: Panamera Facelift...according to latest info, not in 2012

Nothing that makes my heart beat any faster: bumpers and light clusters only (aesthetically). I guess they'll add 15 bhp to the power output and make some other options available that weren't before...

Well, to be honest... why should they do more? Over here, the panamera is still a pretty rare sight, so no need to rush with extensive updates...

whatever they do with the facelift, it will still be ugly ..

Re: Panamera Facelift...according to latest info, not in 2012

Frontlights, front bumper, rear bumper and...rear lights but there recently was a rumor that because of the early next gen Panamera introduction in 2015, the facelift may not get new rear lights because they would have required a slight side fender change too.

Please stop with that 991-derived look crap, this ain't going to happen. Not in the front and especially not in the rear.

Why not ??    Since ALDO didn't  ( couldn't )  tell  -  doors are open .   Panamera should be closer to 991 then to Cayenne SUV !

Even on (some) pictures of camouflaged car, it is quite visible that front bumper  i.e. grills will bee in the 991 look .  Head lights ?   Most likely in the same pattern .   To make Panamera  ' face '  half 991 - half Cayenne  ???  ( I hope NOT )

Re: Panamera Facelift...according to latest info, not in 2012

They need to fix that standard trim (non Turbo) front bumper. It's the ugliest in the line-up.

Wanna bet that the Panamera facelift isn't even close to the 991? Smiley

Panamera and Cayenne have one look, Boxster and Cayman another one and the 911 a completely different one.

A "unified" look has been discussed in the past but according to all information I have, it has not been examined further.

Good thing. It's enough that you nearly can't distinguish all the different Audi models and BMW is not that much better recently. We don't need that in case of Porsche. Smiley
