Interesting product but without S-tronic, they aren't going to sell too many I'm afraid.
I know so many customers who would have bought the new BMW 1M Coupe without even loosing a thought about it if it would have been available with DKG or Steptronic too.

Interesting that so many now expect DSG style boxes.... for me this kind of small city car is only fun if you can exploit the more limited power with a manual - I have not been impressed with many DSG shifters in small cars as they seem to lack the engine qualities to make these gearboxes shine. Then again, I live in a small city where there is not extensive stop and go traffic; if I had worse traffic conditions daily, my view on "needing" DSG could change.

The thing is: Many use such small power houses as some sort of second or third car and it is great if the spouse can drive it too. My wife drives only automatic, so a manual gearbox would be out of the question. This would be a great fun car for the city but with manual...not an option for me.

I love it when performance cars are offered with manual only - I think it suits them...
Tell that to Formula One drivers and probably every other pro racing class drivers too...

Professional drivers are professionals, so on a track they want every bleeding edge advantage they can get. But on the street, many of them, like Schumi, enjoy owning and driving stuff like Cobras and early Porsches with manuals, even slow Harleys. Why? They are something called.....fun.
With cars you can push technology so far that the assist overwhelms the human skill and fun factor.

Also, the rims do look a bit weird - and only available in white...

If I could afford it, I would probably have a couple of cars in my garage, including some with manual transmission. Since I have to find the best compromise between daily driver, performance and driving fun, manual is out of the question.

They probably see how successful it is working out for BMW. For not much more input costs, BMW can slap an M badge on a car and charge a $15-25K premium over the model its derived from.
