WOW- Excellent review. Better than anything I've read in magazines. Thanks.
Carlos isn't like car journalists who drive a 911 for lunch and drive home in a Toyota Camry.
He is a longtime 911 owner, he knows and loves the 911, so his opinion is very very important to me and others.
It is actually fascinating to read all the different 991 reviews here in the forum, reviews done by real 911 owners and not by people who drive such a car only occasionally.
I do however have to say that for example Auto, Motor und Sport, a german car magazine, made similar points like we did, they also believe the 991 is the best 911 ever. It really depends on those who test and drive the cars at car magazines. Car journalists aren't without personal bias...

Carlos, I remember you did a great report on the 997 on its introduction but you have really excelled yourself this time!
I don't remember seeing such a readable, detailed car test report with such clearly reasoned assessments of its features in any magazine, all expressed in a way that I could really relate to it.
Congratulations and thanks.

..especially the last sentence..
Since you mention Auto motor sport..their website is funded by the car industry..once an AMS author wrote something bad about a car...at the end of the contract - the manufacturer did not renew their contract for sponsorship..
Coincidence?
Long live the independent forums !

I'm not quite sure what you are implying but Porsche (or any other car manufacturer) doesn't do anything for us. No money, no test cars, no information, nothing. Every tiny bit of information we get is from non-official sources and every test car we get is from private owners or dealerships.
Yes, we are 100% independent but I wish some users would actually appreciate that.

I honestly think that all regular users are aware of and appreciate that fact...and are very grateful for it.
Maybe some users, who only recently joined, still don't quite 'get it'.. but, if they hang around long enough then they surely will...

Less than 3 votes...yet. I think many very so impressed by the content, so they forgot to rate it.

Dang - tried to rate the post (5!) and clicked on 'report Abuse' by accident on RC's last comment.
By the way RC - I don't think GTLover meant to make any comment about this forum at all - only some car magazines and reviewers.
Now to the point - CARLOS - EXCELLENT REVIEW!!!!

Hi RC,
Of course I know that you are independent....a look at the auto motor sport website - in comparison to this one makes it clear in 5 seconds.
Yes, I appreciate your work here..and your devotion to it ..there are not so many international Porsche forums..so my respect to you and the others organising this here.
I have criticised the 991 - nobody is perfect - but if I criticise the 991 for some things (like no engine to see anymore - like you mentioned it too) it doesnt mean I criticise Rennteam...its seems however that sometimes some criticism to the 991 is taken a bit personal. The 997 GTs I love so much can also be crticised for being hard, environmental polluters or whatever...I have no problem admitting this.
To make things clear - I will reformulate my sentence - hope youre happy now:
Long live the independent forums like RENNTEAM
I was reading the 991 driving impressions in 2 independent UK magazines dealing solely with Porsche. In both they comment on the loss of the traditional type of steering feel that is bound to annoy old friends of the 911. They also add that this does not reduce the effectiveness of the steering, on the contrary, but the impression that you touch the road that all 911s had to varying degrees, until the 991 is diminished.
So, even the one-brand Press is allowed to make their point although they rely a lot on Porsche AG for their advertising revenue. Porsche must be a very democratic company I think, and confident enough with their engineering so as to accept some criticism.

Criticism is no problem, we aren't perfect. I just assumed you meant us, sorry about that.
The 991 Carrera S is the best 911 Carrera Porsche ever made in my opinion, you don't have to agree but if you disagree, you have to made some valid points, which in my opinion, you haven't made yet.
It is difficult to compare the 991 Carrera S to the GT3 or even GT2 but I'm pretty sure that the average talented 911 driver would probably be faster on the track in a 991 Carrera S than in the 997 GT3. Of course I can't prove this claim but it is a pretty valid hunch based on my experience with both cars.

In the contrary: if all Rennteamer's would stop buying Porsche the company would face severe financial difficulties Thus, it is us doing something for Porsche - not the other way round.
There are many good and long-term customers (also of other high-performance brands) around here. This, I think, is another major difference to the readers of AMS or other car magazines. Rennteam has a much, much more focused target group
Hi RC,
the criticism wasnt to Rennteam..certainly not. If I say that its not nice to have a covered engine in a sportscar..well - just look at Ferrari or Lambhorini, R8, SLS..they can do it - so Im disappointed about the 991 in this respect. Thats a valid argument - just by comparison to others - period. It doenst make a car..but on this point the 991 definately lost compared to others..
Over all its better than a 997 - thats clear..but because of some "stupid little mistakes"..they have lowered (in my opinion) the attraction to have the car.
You have driven Gt3 and GT2..well, a GT2 is difficult..but in no way can it be be slower than the 991S..even an unskilled driver - he might loose in the corners to a 991 - but on straight line...there are 130HP difference. Most GT 3 3.8 have about 445HP ..so thats also considerably more than the 991S..plus its lighter too. For everyday use the 991 is better - probably far better. No doubt about that.
Be happy that there are different opinions here in this forum..thats the strengh of it..if we were all 100% the same opinion - what would there be to discuss? :)
Congratulations again to you for being the Rennteam "Master" and the nice cars you own :)

When I owned a 986 Boxster one of my complaints was the hidden engine. On my 997 although I don't see anything beautiful, I enjoy opening the lid and seeing some mechanical things at least. I'd be unhappy if I owned a 991 in this respect but I wouldn't buy a R8 for example just for the "engine showroom" under the glass.
In Porsche's packaging of sports cars engine visibility is definitely very low on the list of priorities. Like in many other things they like to follow a different pattern

Why is it a revelation that the 991 is the best 911 ever? Should we expect something less?
I always assumed the 991 would be the best Porsche. It is that way with all car manufacturers. The latest models are always the best models.
What am I missing?
As good old Enzo said: Which Ferrari do you like most? Always the next model.

I don't understand how this thread has <3 votes rating too...
Carlos is a real Porsche enthusiastic, longtime owner with a pile of miles into a 911... Though he is an independent car tester in this case, everybody know that this fantastic review/article is the best publicity for Porsche.
Carlos, you're great!! It's a real pleasure being your partner in Soloporsche.com too 5 stars are not enough to qualify this thread.
Porsche AG is getting an important and FREE feedback with this kind of roadtest. Think about it...
So they should to make you an irresistible and huge discount offer to change your 997
How much would it be the investment amount in a Porsche thematic forum to advertising a new model in an advertorial. We Porsche enthusiastics, potencial buyers receive the best information from a true expert.
Thanks again Carlos
