991S 3 days test diary
Hello guys, got the chance today to drive the 991 for about two hours, and so far so good !!
Just some brief notes, before I write an extensive review tomorrow or Friday.
1) THE ENGINE SOUND. I don't know how Porsche has done it, but the engine sound from the inside is just EPIC. I would say inside and outside, it sounds very raw at low revvs, and like a rocket when going for it. I also have to say, that the sound has changed, its a much more robotic sound, different from the 996 and 997, but still is amazing !!!. This car was NOT equipped with PSE, so with PSE must be a pain in the a$$ for the neighbours !!. I am completely sold. Even at some revv ranges, the car sounds a LOT inside the cabin.
2)Start / Stop is great, its like starting a motorcross bike ready for a race. Also tried the ¨ coasting ¨ option for the PDK, its GREAT !!!.
3) PDK IS MUCH MUCH BETTER than in the 997.2, much more quick, and precise. It feels as if the gearbox performs also a great heal and toe effect when downshifting. When reducing from second to first, it never makes a hard noise as I experienced in the 997.2 pdk.
4) Electric roof is nice, but I would not go for it. So far there where no strange wind noises. But its expensive, and it should open far more, but therefore it would be a targa.
5) Sport Chrono Plus, definately has lost that KILLER character the 997.2 has, gearbox will never reduce automatically to the shortest gear possible (the 997.2 in this area, I remember it went absolutely crazy), but as soon as you go for it, oh boy, the sound, and the sport plus feeling when changing gears is GREAT !.
6) Feels much more refined, you can completely go nearly flat out at entering curves, but at the same time it makes you feel its like a more GT car, like I say it makes you feel that....But its not, its a pure weapon on the road. Its so damn easy to drive, that hardly any car in the road will follow you.
7) I have managed to see in the PCM fuel consumption a GREAT 9.2L/100kms. After that I really stopped, and started to enjoy the car and went up to 14.6L/100kms. Right now its in 13.5L/100kms.
8) Every single button in the dashboard, doors, etc, has no flaws at all, and it does feel and look MUCH BETTER than in the 997 interior. Actually I opened our 997.1 targa 4S, and interior is already from another decade.
What I dont like so far :
1)Basic steering wheel should not be available and the sport steering wheel option with F1 paddle should come at no cost.
2)Electric sun roof, also it is not very quick to open.
3)Engine bay is such a step backwards. i always opened the engine bay after a drive to see "something" but now....only two vents.
My quick conclusion of today?. Its a weapon. Above 5,500rpm it has a second push that reminded me to the 997.1 turbo we had.Right now our 997.1 Targa 4S tiptronic S is a school bus ! (I am joking, but you get the point)
Tomorrow me and my father will do a great scenic drive with both cars. get ready for lots of pics.
Is it necessary to spend a serious amount of money having already a 997.1 or 997.2 for a 991 ?? Yes it is, but with the actual economical situation it is definately NOT. With that economical difference you can easily buy a brand new Golf GTI DSG full of options.
Are we getting one ?? Yes. But those who decided to keep their 997's are still having one of the best sportscar of all time.
Good night for now !!
