It will be interesting. While some claim that the new high power Diesel from BMW will have 381 hp, other sources indicate power figures of around 500 hp. I still think that the 381 hp figure is more accurate but I also don't understand why BMW is doing that "powered by M" stuff. Many M GmbH customers and loyal fans will be pretty upset about it, I can remember the heated discussion about a possible M model with Diesel engine. If BMW marketing thinks that they are clever by not marketing this model as a M model but as a model "powered by M", they really think that customers are stupid. It will backfire in a way or another, I'm pretty sure about it.

ALDO:
It will have 381 hp for sure.
The car will not be a M-car - rather BMW with M-options.
They seem to do well with the M options on the 3 series,, and 5.
The issue here seems to be that BMW apparently wants to market the new Diesel as "powered by M". While this may sound great to non-M GmbH customers, it somehow dilutes the M brand. M styling is one thing but "powered by M" is already a completely different level. I know that BMW tries to make a difference here but M customers will be upset, especially since this is a Diesel. I know it will pass but still...

i second that. an M should be an M but they rae diluted by now. mercedes got that better with amg. its clearly about cubic inches and power....not so much about sportscar image.
they should not use M with the diesel. even if it had 500 hp.
///M should be for all round performance. The combination of excellent power/weight and superb control. The first M car (excluding the M1) was the legendary E30 M3, a very sharp car with only 200PS from 2.5L and 4C.
No huge engines and lots of PS on heavy cars. This is an American concept, one imitated by Mercedes-AMG.

What about the E28 M5?
AMG did a C 30 CDI in 2002...
The E28 M5 preceded the E30 M3 by a few months but it was the latter car that built the ///M reputation with its agility and handling and its huge success in motorsport.

In March 2012 they present in Genf a M550 with 381 hp in the 5series as well. With xdrive (!!!) and 8-gear.
This car will sell like hell...I heard that the price tag is below the 550ix.

More details have surfaced: Apparently the new X6 50d will already have the awaited X6 facelift and not the typical M look with the quad exhaust, etc.
Base price is aprox. 20000 EUR more expensive than the current X6 40d.
Meaning: The X6 50d will cost around 85000 EUR, the X6M costs 109000 EUR.

Thanks RC!
As I have said before:
New details are starting to emerge about the BMW X6 M50d and M550d xDrive.
First up, the X6 M50d is expected to go into production in April with a tri-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that develops 381 PS (280 kW / 375 hp) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque - 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) more than originally speculated. This could enable the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds which is just 0.2 seconds slower than the standard X6 M.
The report also indicates the M550d xDrive will use the same engine and accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. In terms of efficiency, the sedan is expected to average 6.3 L/100 km (37.3 mpg US / 44.8 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 165 g/km. If everything pans out, it will roll off the assembly line in March and be offered exclusively in Europe.
