You should tell that to Hamilton's management. They seem to know little about F1 and see Ferrari as the biggest team with the most $$$$$. Hence their aim is to get Hamilton in there ASAP, regardless of whether it's best for him or not.

Some childish comments from Hamilton that a good looking car is generally a good car. At this stage, these comments are just hot air.

Plenty of sour grapes from Sutil. He has accused Hamilton of being a coward.

    http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/7471622/Sutil-Brands-Hamilton-A-Coward

Sutil is being unreasonable IMO, expecting Hamilton to turn up to give evidence at his criminal trial on 30 Jan when McLaren was due to launch its new car on 1 Feb. Hamilton can't ignore his work commitments. He needed to be at the factory in Woking in the run up to the launch.

Hamilton apparently provided written testimony (a deposition) which is normal for witnesses who cannot appear in person. Hamilton said that he did not recall the events of the night of Sunday 8 May 2011 precisely. He was celebrating his Chinese GP win at a Shanghai nightclub. I can remember back then reading comments from Hamilton that it all happened so fast that he didn't see what actually happened ... sometime along the lines of one moment everything was fine and the next moment, Lux had been injured and was bleeding. So, if Hamilton didn't see what happened, it is hardly surprising that he cannot testify with precision as to what happened, who did what to whom etc.

Anyway, Sutil is probably feeling angry not just at the criminal conviction and fine but also at the fact that he has been dropped by Force India and now doesn't have a F1 drive. So he is probably letting off some steam.

Sutil also grumbled that Hamilton's father texted him a good luck SMS but that Hamilton did not. Big deal. The fact that Hamilton had agreed to testify in person until McLaren told Hamilton that he had to be there in the run up to the car launch should have been enough of a sign of friendship.

In a way, it suits Hamilton that Sutil doesn't consider him a friend anymore. Hamilton has his own interests to consider and IMvHO should not be associating with Sutil who now has a criminal conviction for assault on a guy from Genii Capital (that owns the Lotus F1 team). Hamilton has not just got his reputation to protect but also his brand.

I'm not a Hamilton fan (he still hasn't grown up IMO). Just offering my 2 cents.

So much for all the cars being ugly this year. This is a stunning looking car, hope it's as fast as it looks.

Hamilton's comments refer to a long held myth in F1. They say a good looking car makes the whole team feel proud of it, which in turn makes them work that little bit harder.

Don't know if there's any truth to it, there have been some bloody ugly cars win the WC. Benetton's B194 comes to mind. But I have to say if I worked at Caterham i'd be embarrassed to be seen out with the CT-01, never mind appear on TV with it.

Maybe you're right easy, but it's an interesting paradox. Just look at the criticism Caterham's car has come in for, it's a laughing stock. Even more so now McLaren have launched the MP4-27 with its swooping nose.

Now think if Ferrari launch a car that looks like the Caterham. Ferrari will become a laughing stock and that reflects badly on the brand. Not to mention the fragile egos of the Tifosi. All would be forgiven if it won the WC, but what if it didn't? A pig ugly car that's also slow is doubly damaging.

    Re: 2012 F1 Pre-Season

More links re McLaren's launch yesterday. Looks very tightly packaged at the rear. Is the design deliberately conservative so as to avoid a repeat of last year's disastrous winter testing when the bold exhaust design proved a flop? Hamilton was training in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado while Button was on vacation in Hawaii. Lucky them! The $64 million question is: how much better than last year's car will this year's RBR car be? In other words, have McLaren done enough to bridge the gap?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson/2012/02/at_mclaren_technology_centre_w.html

Gorgeous looking car ... photo gallery:

    http://www.planetf1.com/photo-gallery/7471620/McLaren-MP4-27#photo=19

More on Sutil's rant. He was also unhappy that Hamilton had changed his phone number and that he could no longer contact him! Sutil has become a 13 year old girl. He sounds ridiculous.

    http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2012/02/hamilton-wants-to-focus-on-racing-but-gets-a-pelter-from-sutil/

More importantly, Hamilton will be mulling over his options in preparation for his contract negotiations with McLaren. There's no way he will get paid as much as he has been. Salaries are lower now and he has had some poor seasons. Does he want to keep his options open for a drive at RBR in place of Webber? If I were him, I would wait till after the first few races to see if RBR still has a performance advantage over McLaren.

Hamilton was prevented by a McLaren team spokesman from commenting on Sutil's remarks since Sutil's conviction may be subject to an appeal but, even though the case could still be sub judice, AFAIK witnesses aren't cross-examined during an appeal. That only happens in the trial itself. So McLaren's excuse is a little lame IMO. It's clear McLaren are protecting Hamilton since they want him (and the media) to focus on their 2012 season rather than Sutil who at best is yesterday's man and at worst is permanently damaged goods.

Ferrari's launch event cancelled due to heavy snow

    http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/7473508/Ferrari-cancel-launch-event

Massa is already complaining about pay drivers. Is he fearing the worst already? Will he survive the 2012 season if he continues to perform poorly this year? By mid-season, IMO if he scores less than half the points that Alonso scores, Ferrari will drop him and bring in someone else. Personally, I don't think he will deliver in 2012 and this could well be his last year at Ferrari.

Di Resta thinks it's a piece of art. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I don't mind how a car looks provided that it is fast. No point having a beautiful car that sits on the back row of the grid. Better to have an ugly car that laps the field. Better still of course to have a car that is both super quick AND beautiful but that's only in an ideal world.

Looks like other teams could opt for a similar nose too

Some interesting comments from John Watson on Schumi and Raikkonen

    http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/7474475/Watson-backs-Schumacher-to-win

I suspect this will be Schumi's last season. He came back to F1 for the pleasure of racing. But F1 is massively competitive. There is just too much at stake for a driver to be left alone (away from media pressure) to just enjoy himself if the results aren't good.

Rosberg has outperformed Schumi in 2010 and more often than not in 2011. Unless the 2012 Mercedes car is a quantum leap forward, I just can't see Schumi even getting a podium finish. He would have to outperform both RBRs, both McLarens, Alonso and, toughest of all, Rosberg (since they have the same machinery). That will be very hard to do. 7th has become quite a usual position for the 7 time champion. Seen in that light, the podium is a long way away and the fairytale ending of a GP win before he retires is really a fantasy IMO.

Schumi is the consummate professional. He looks super fit. He is focussed. He works as hard as ever. But even he will know that it is time to leave the stage and let new talent come to the fore. He has had too good a career just to make up the numbers.

And on Force India's launch. They're setting some ambitious targets for 2012. I wonder whether they can really come 5th this year.

    http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2012/02/force-india-targetting-fifth-which-means-drivers-must-deliver/

I expect the top 3 will be RBR, McLaren, Ferrari ... as usual ...

I expect the next 2 will be Mercedes and Lotus

I expect the next 2 will be Force India and Toro Rosso (provided the rookies can make good use of the car)

I expect the next 3 will be Sauber, Williams and Caterham

I expect the last 2 will be Marussia and HRT

In order words, no real change ... let's see ... hopefully I will be proved wrong ... which should make for a more interesting season.
