    Re: 991 Cabrio

Is Porsche getting more "strange" in is Marketing department???

991 not arrived yeat at dealers and already presenting the cabrio versions?? yes

    It looks really good!!!

    Re: 991 Cabrio

Wow, beautiful! Never liked the cabrio but this one with that smooth canvas top is just epic!

Seems like Porsche will hit instant winners with each new iteration of 991 (design wise at least!)!

    Re: 991 Cabrio

    Re: 991 Cabrio

Assuming by the (too early) timing of this press release - we are to witness something even bigger in Detroit....

    Re: 991 Cabrio

Yes, it`s possible... on the other hand maybe the new Boxster ("someone" told me that the new Boxster debut was predicted on the L.A. Show Smiley.... but as said before, Porsche Marketing is uncertain... )

    Re: 991 Cabrio

Seems like the Boxster is set certain this time for Detroit... ;)

Although, it;s gonna look quite strange having two premiers of two convertibles at same time.

Porsche marketing at its best I guess again... :)

    Re: 991 Cabrio

    Official press release and photos:

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is doubling the driving fun to be had from the new 911 Carrera by putting a Cabriolet alongside the Coupé. The debut of the new generation of the sports car classic is being followed only a few months later by the open-top models of the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S in the new 911 design.

What the Coupé began with the new aluminium-steel body, the Cabriolet continues with the all-new, unique hood: As a result, the typical 911 roof line is initially retained in its entirety. Even when closed up, the Cabriolet cuts a fine figure. Intelligent lightweight design, even including the use of magnesium in the hood, ensures less weight and more sportiness, lower fuel consumption and greater comfort. With the open-top 911s as well, Porsche has managed to reverse the weight spiral and make the new Cabrio models significantly lighter than its predecessors.

Each of the two new Cabriolets has the same engine as its Carrera Coupé equivalent. The rear of the 911 Carrera Cabrio houses a 3.4-litre flat engine generating 350 hp (257 kW) of power driving the rear wheels through a seven-gear manual transmission. The open-top Carrera S comes with a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine developing 400 hp (294 kW) and also a seven-gear manual transmission featured as standard. That means that the open-top 911s as well are distancing themselves even further from the competition in terms of efficiency; both models consume less than ten litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (NEDC). The Cabriolets as well have the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) available as an optional extra, delivering even lower fuel consumption and shorter acceleration times.

With the longer wheelbase compared with the predecessor model, the wider front track and the new electro-mechanical power steering, the new Cabriolets offer even sportier driving characteristics, greater precision and agility. Depending on model, there are other standard or optional active control systems available as well that further enhance the driving dynamics.

The 911 Carrera Cabriolet will be launched in Germany on March 3, 2012. The prices for the 911 Carrera Cabriolet start in Germany with 100,532 Euros, the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet starts with 114,931 Euros including value-added tax in both cases.

wow - seems that 2012 will be a record 911 year with all these ordering books open - not even having launched the 4' series - time to buy shares ?

It could look that way but don't forget that the most successful Porsche models are still the Cayenne and the Panamera. The Cajun could definitely be a game changer, I think that if the design, price tag and performance are right, the Cajun will be the best selling Porsche ever.

    Re: 991 Cabrio

The windshield appears lower, or at least has greater rake compared to my 997.2. I prefer the new windshield as it seems sportier, similar to the wife's 987 Boxster S.  However, the side profile of the cab w/ top down has never been its strong suit, and the 991 cab side profile further enhances the rear end mass w/ it's more obvious increase in wheel base.  The top itself is very well done and preserves the lines of the coupe nicely.  So is this a fabric/metal hybrid top?

Highlights: Roof is composed of three segments of carbon fiber covered by fabric, 13 seconds to go up or down, electric wind deflector goes up in 2 seconds. Adds 44 pounds to the car weight. It looks pretty cool!

You must be referring to the permanently erect ducktail Smiley

Honestly, the ducktail at least on the cabrio, it spoils the proportions.

The profile with the top up in the picture above seems to be the first time the Cab has looked right with the top up, at least since the 993, IMHO. Very nice.kiss

    Re: 991 Cabrio

    Looks great!

I wonder if the slightly different roof line (rear window portion) of the coupe (versus the 997 coupe) was intended to allow the 991 coupe and 991 cab to match roof lines exactly...?

Personally, I thought the 997 cab roof line was a considerable improvement over the 996.  And this 991 has improved it even further - exponentially.  The only thing better would be for a solid metal roof; but this is fantastic...

    Re: 991 Cabrio

Wonder if the rear Cabrio seats are less upright with the extra wheel-base on the 991.

The previous Cab rear seats were near vertical and thus less much usable/comfortable than the coupe ones.

    Re: 991 Cabrio

I love the silhouette, way better tahn the 996/997 cabs.
At first sight, I love the looks of the picture above, but on second thought, I think I would get annoyed by the combination of black plastic parts and the brown roof... maybe the black plastics can be resprayed or at least photoshopped to match the roof color?

At first, from this angle, I thought someone had posted a picture of a BMW 1 series convertible...

Not that I don't think its the best Cab ever.

    If you like the cab.

And you don't think that the Boxster is the right Porsche for open top driving.

lol!  Maybe I do..!  I'm not a fan of the cab, and I suppose I'm being harsh.  Way too harsh in fact, as it's a far nicer car than the old cab - the back doesn't look as unnaturally humped.  But the ducktail does seem to square it up from that angle, hence the comment.  Didn't mean to troll.  Sorry.  I retract..!

    Re: 991 Cabrio

I was slowly starting to dislike the 991, but this came out this morning and I'm in love all over again! I think for the first time in the history of the 991, I might like the Cabriolet more.
