I agree with you guys. My fear is that if PDK were offered, the GT3 would turn into a poseurs car, with the majority of the buyers clueless of driving. Kind of like how the Turbo already is.

All fast cars have DCT now (except Lamborghini that use automated manuals but still no stick) from M3 to GT-R to 458 and McLaren.

But I'm sure Porsche will also offer the new PDK-derived 7 speed manual on their GT cars

I hope PAG doesn't lose sight of one thing: that just because it's possible to bring PDK technology to a GT3, that this doesn't mean that they should do it.

IMO the kind of buyer who chooses a GT3 doesn't necessarily want that PlayStation experience. The technology needs to remain appropriate to the target audience otherwise it risks alienating them if they are not prepared to move with the technology offered.

Fully correctSmiley..besides, if Porsche will want to compete with playstation experiences of Ferrari and others - it will:

    1) loose its uniqueness (bad marketing)

    2) will be forced to compete with other "playstations"..and customers will hop around fom one to the other. GT3/GT2 owners bring the best cash flow for Porsche, they are the most loyal clients..for example: the chance that a GT3 owner will go to track and buy "expensive" replacement parts is quite high..for example for normal brake wear etc. ..means again regaular cash flow for them..

There is a fundamental difference between these customers and ones who bring their oil bought from ebay to the porsche dealer for changing the oil on their boxster or normal 911. Believe, these things exist..I have seen it with my own eyes..and Porsche centers in Gemany accept this as a common habit..

Being regularly on tracks and talking to GT3 owners, many DO WANT PDK  ( the opposite is true too ) . A lot of them want to have maximum effiicancy, and be faster then the competition. ( Beeting taken over by a Carrera S 997 PDK when you own a GT3 996.2 is not fun Smiley )  One of the way to achieve this is with PDK.

Now I am sure Porsche will offer both...at least for one or two cycles.

especially the wet handling of 1,46 min on the sport auto track...thats 8s off the 997MKII S PDK...

The 991 maybe be a nice car..but I have a bitter sweet taste when promises that are maid cannot be kept..this is disappointing..why does Porsche need this "pumping up"?

    I dont understand this..

    Hi Kreso,

Oh, I didnt know that and will check it immediately..Smiley

Well, let the majority decide..if I loose it..ok...mea culpa..but Im a bit disappointed by Porsches pushing of the "7:40"..and GT3 level whatever..why do they need this? Porsche doesnt need this..in fact they complained about Nissan a few month ago..and were correct.

Yes, still good results for 991..but the wet handling is below GT2RS..keep that in mind..

    greetings,

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

regarding the 991 GT3 with PDK.

As I recall the PDK could not be used easily with the GT1 Le Mans block (Metzger) which is why we never got PDK in the GT3 or GT2 (but somehow on the Turbo?)

Since the GT1 derived block will not return on the 991 GT3 I would not bet against PDK being an option - a very popular one.

It will be interesting how the new GT3 engine compares to the old 997 GT1 block.

To a certain extent, this is probably true... On the other hand, without PDK the car would lack the ultimate track performance. Thus, the GT3 will definitively be available with PDK. No doubt. The question is whether there will be an optional manual option...

I think that people who are not satisfied with the Supertest result might have a ver personal agenda (not based on logic)...The SportAuto results are truely excellent.

There is no way that they would offer the manual on the regular Carrera and not offer the manual on the GT3, the driver's car.  They would lose many sales if they did that, including mine (if I can afford it).

I also think (hope) they may revert to hydraulic steering for the GT models (and maybe even add Flat-8 for GT3RS).

If electro steering in fact has saved weight, it would be unlikely for a GT version to add weight back for something as hard to quantify as feel.

When reading the specs for the electro-steering, it said weight was unchanged, but there was a minimal power and efficiency advantage.

Haha, true - but at least it wasn't a 911 diesel.  If Porsche ever builds a diesel 911, it would be a clear signal to switch allegiances.  May we never see that day.  Smiley

''All things considered - its price, its performance, its economy and emissions - it's pretty clear we're talking about the world's best sports car here. The 911 used to be as much defined by its quirks and foibles as it was by its genius. Well, the foibles have gone. The genius is now more ingenious than ever.''

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I think the Top Gear review is my favorite review yet. Most of the others gave you a whole bunch of paragraphs telling you things you could find out yourself on porsche.com, and then one paragraph about how it feels to take it round a corner. This review though is excellent! It gives all neccessary information and no more, and I love how the journalist kind of gave a by the second documentary of how it fell to drive from the moment he opened the door.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Yes, it`s a great review. Not a "copy-paste" from other reviews (especially on the new steering issue...)

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Finally - a review that's not just a re-hash of the Press Release.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Anyone who know if the press-cars are all equipped with the "Electric steering plus"-option or if there is a mix. It's not been mentioned in any review what I've seen at least . Would be really interesting to know. I'm really on the fence if I should tick the box for this option or not... yes

I wonder if this feature can be switch on or off just like other functions like PSM, etc.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Chris Harris' first contact and small clip. Looking foward to his review on EVO next month, I really enjoy his insights and usually identify with them.

So, much as I want to complain at the creep of everydayness, I just can’t in light of the surprising improvement in raw driving.
