Looks great in those videos! Seeing the rear end right next to the 997's though, I like the 997 a lot more. But from direct front angle, no competition, 991 all the way!

    Issy911:

Drove past the convention center here in Cape Town earlier, seems like they are getting ready for the worldwide dealer launch. I spoke to my dealer today who confirmed that 100+ 991's have arrived and are parked at one of the airforce bases here till the launch!

Welcome to Rennteam, nice to have another Capetonian on the forum.  Smiley

Those 991s are indeed parked in the hangars at Ysterplaat airforce base.  Porsche has booked the Killarney circuit for the next month, but the location of the cars suggests that they may be using the runway at Ysterplaat as well.

If there's any chance of getting close to these babies while they're in town, the local Porsche Club will let us know - although I suspect we may have to settle for watching them from a distance, i.e. from the clubhouse along the main straight at Killarney.

I don`t believe that a brand like Porsche, with an icon called 911, would put in the market (with many Km/miles and years of testing) a new 991 with a bad steering...

Maybe less "nervous" but i believe the "feedback" is untouchable...

We need to wait for "our personal reviews"....

Very well said. I will drive a 991 Carrera S in December but only if the weather permits.

I`m also waiting a Porsche call ...  can`t wait for put my hands on a 991 (carrera, carrera s, manual, PDK... anything...)

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I hear that the next GT3 will have PDK.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

GT3 with PDK? Well, it`s a step forward indeed... but not a bad thing, to me...

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

The racecars already have paddles, wouldn't surprise me if a the 991 GT3 had flappy paddles of some sort. As long as a manual is available, no complaints from me!

And excellent video, thanks for posting.  Precise, credible, logical.  No flowery, fancy words.  Mauer gives me confidence in the future of Porsche design and engineering.

This car will, I predict, win many design awards and more importantly serve as the basis for a new series of cars we can look forward to and enjoy.  I admire Porsche management for building the case for this new car in a deliberate, convincing manner.  There is depth here, not fluff...

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Fantastic video! One thing I love about the new 911 is that the design is so simple and understated, while most new cars today have a whole bunch of ugly and unneccessary lines.

Mauer also gives me a lot of hope for the desgin at Porsche. I think he's doing an amazing job on the front ends, but the rear ends look a little fat and too luxurious. Too many badges on the Panamera's rear, and it's too high. Same on the 991 (though the 991's still looks gorgeous).

Yeah, while he was there MB cars looked great and it was my fovorite brand back then in terms of design... Finally I can understand why it's Porsche today. Because of this guy... Smiley

I seem to recall that a senior Porsche manager recently mentioned that the next GT3 would NOT have PDK - or is my memory letting me down?  Smiley

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

next GT3 will not have PDK imho

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

They said both things, I believe that when they said it won't they were refering to the initial mk-I 991GT3, but eventually, probably with the mk-II, the S-PDK will be ready.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I hope PAG doesn't lose sight of one thing: that just because it's possible to bring PDK technology to a GT3, that this doesn't mean that they should do it.

IMO the kind of buyer who chooses a GT3 doesn't necessarily want that PlayStation experience. The technology needs to remain appropriate to the target audience otherwise it risks alienating them if they are not prepared to move with the technology offered.

Fully correctSmiley..besides, if Porsche will want to compete with playstation experiences of Ferrari and others - it will:

    1) loose its uniqueness (bad marketing)

    2) will be forced to compete with other "playstations"..and customers will hop around fom one to the other. GT3/GT2 owners bring the best cash flow for Porsche, they are the most loyal clients..for example: the chance that a GT3 owner will go to track and buy "expensive" replacement parts is quite high..for example for normal brake wear etc. ..means again regaular cash flow for them..

There is a fundamental difference between these customers and ones who bring their oil bought from ebay to the porsche dealer for changing the oil on their boxster or normal 911. Believe, these things exist..I have seen it with my own eyes..and Porsche centers in Gemany accept this as a common habit..

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I agree with you guys. My fear is that if PDK were offered, the GT3 would turn into a poseurs car, with the majority of the buyers clueless of driving. Kind of like how the Turbo already is.
