Re: Range Rover Evoque introduction event (with a few pics)

    Lars,

The Magneride option makes a huge difference to the ride quality of the car and the Dynamic version has an extra "dynamic" setting on the terrain response control that gives better body control and noticeably firms up the steering. Anyone coming to one of these from a performance car background would much prefer this version of it. I wouldn't want one with with the 150bhp diesel engine. It really needs the 190bhp diesel or the 240bhp petrol. There is a 300bhp performance version currently undergoing development testing. That should be fun.

    J.Seven,

I know a few full size RR owners who have had several examples all the way back to the "classic" model who have switched to the Evoque and love it.

    Iain,

Somehow I couldn't find the technical spec of 190 hp diesel vs 240 hp petrol engine. Do you know them? I would like to know max torque of the each engine and where it is delivered. Also curious about max. rpm of the each engine and weight of the 190 hp diesel car vs 240 hp petrol car.

BTW, your car has gorgeous seats BUT I love the ivory/tan/espresso theme interior of Dynamic.

Have you driven your wife's Evoque coupe? I'm curious about driveablity and fuel consumption differences between the 2 engines. Diesel engine makes in torque  where it loses in hp.

Re: Range Rover Evoque introduction event (with a few pics)

I haven't given her the keys yet Onur as I've been enjoying it too much smiley  The petrol engine is very refined and pulls quite well and makes for a very relaxing drive. You do have to rev it when overtaking which makes it more vocal. I've only done a few hundred miles thus far so it needs to be run in for a while longer before I really get a feel for it. Initial impressions are very positive but I don't expect it to be a tyre burner indecision  The Dynamic mode on the All Terrain Response system is very good and you immediately feel the steering sharpen up along with the magneride controlling body roll far more effectively.

I collect my diesel version on Monday so will report back on how the two compare. From the brief test drive I had in a diesel the low down delivery of torque was clearly evident and the car was eager to sprint away from a standing start at junctions etc. It also pulls very well in mid range accelleration on a motorway.

Re: Range Rover Evoque introduction event (with a few pics)

IMO for this type of car (as well as for daily drive saloons/estates), diesel is the best option because of fuel economy, cruising ability at low revs and the immediate pull in stop-start city  traffic. Mated to a good automatic or DCT transmission, it makes an excellent form of transport.

For the pleasures of dynamic driving there are other more suitable categories of automobile.

I agree with you Reginos. I like diesel engines in SUVs, sedans, and jeeps beucase of the reasons you described. Only problem with the Evoque's diesel engine is its 2.2 litre displacement which means HUGE consumer tax in Turkey.

It is nice to hear that you have fun driving the Evoque. Would you like to see more pictures of your Evoque once you collected it. Smiley

Re: Range Rover Evoque introduction event (with a few pics)

Really great car, but I cant get over the association with VB which seems to have made the car a tad "girly"...  Nice to have one in the stable for the mrs to drive though.  indecision

I also cant help thinking they would sell even more cars if David Beckham had designed / endorsed it instead...

Re: Range Rover Evoque introduction event (with a few pics)

I think the Victoria Beckham connection has been a tad over stated. She was supposed to be getting involved with future versions and was only helping with colour and interior materials. AFAIK she has had no input on the car up to this point.

1750 rpm sounds a very low max torque engine speed for a petrol engine, even if it is turbocharged and has maybe been tuned for an especially flat torque curve.  Smiley

Land Rover's web site does not appear to give much info on the engine output, no torque / power curves? Smiley

    fritz,

Apologies, you are correct to be suspicious. I typed that in a hurry earlier today and should have put 240 BHP @  5,500 RPM for the petrol engine frown

Thanks for checking and responding. Smiley

Now I'm surprised that a turbocharged petrol engine should make max torque at such high revs.  Smiley

While I'm here, that looks like a really nice car you have with that high spec. I too find the look of those front seats really impressive. I once had a 1st. generation Freelander, a great, reliable compact 4WD runabout (only changed an exhaust silencer and tyres in 7 years, otherwise sold as it came from the factory including the original battery!),  but the Evoque looks to be in a different class.

Two very nice cars. So which one do you like better ? Which engine is the best one for this car ? How is the space at the back ?

At the moment I'm favouring the five door as it feels bigger inside due to the higher roofline. Rear seat space is quite good. Two 6' tall people could fit one in front with one behind in the back. Rear access in the coupe is not great but once in there is plenty of room there too.

As far as the engines goth both have their attractions. The petrol is very smooth and the diesel is pretty torquey. The diesel can easily be remapped from 190bhp to 250bhp which should make a huge difference. I'll wait to see what the petrol remap is like first though.

After reading some reviews , it seems the only ' problem' is the width  ( larger then a MB S class ). Can you confirm, comment ?

I've not found a problem with the width. With the mirrors in the normal "open" position it's 3cm narrower than the Cayenne.
