Has anyone figured out how to configure the logotype to just have "PORSCHE" with "Carrera S" underneath?  This style has shown up in a few photos and now in the Michael Mauer video, but I cannot find that option in the (US) configuration tool.

This is the standard. You could option "911 Carrera S" underneath PORSCHE.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Here's a quotation from the latest Audi S5-review at EVO, I immediately thought, if Audi can nail steering feedback with electrical assistance, then I'm sure Porsche will do a thorough job with it... I keep my fingers firmly crossed!

The steering feels good too, despite the switch to electrical assistance. While its weighting still feels artificial there’s plenty of feedback, giving you enough faith in the front end grip to keep the car accurately on line.

It is not possible to have the Carrera logo without 911 in front of it. But you can have "911" by itself.(paying option) or just "Porsche" (free option).

I always liked the Carrera-writing on the engine lid, because it's such an harmonious script.

In case of the 991 though I would choose the Porsche writing only, since this looks best. With no writing the large area between the rear lights looks as if there's something missing and having Porsche as well as the model designation is way too much IMO.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Just the Porsche bagde works but it's kind of silly since it is probably THE most recognizable sports car.

I would pick the Carrera badge only as I quite like it.

So is this also possible? Smiley

Would be my first choice as well. I thought you can't have the Carrera badge without the Porsche writing this time? Smiley

Correct, but of course nothing prevents you from removing the glued Porsche lettering and replace it with a Carrera badge.

You would have to then move the carrera writing a little bit higher so it's in the middle.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

When I see the model designation removed froma car, I always think it's because the guy hasn't been able to afford the model he really wanted.  Very common with BMWs, where the designation demonstrates the size of his....

    ...engine

I agree it looks busy now (as we're all getting used to lots of things about it), but the team of top Porsche designers that decided on what to put on the standard offering were pretty satisfied that it looked good.

There again I'm also not in the conspiracy camp that says that the front daytime lights are a design error to correct in 991.2.  It's just too horrible to contemplate that any company, let alone Porsche, could purposefully prostitute their own beautiful creation to be seen to fix it later.  That to me is worse than getting it wrong in the first place.  There would be at least one person who would take a stand, resign, and spill the beans.  Do you think Porsche are sitting there, slapping themselves on each others' backs and saying: "Ya, ya, Fritz, ve really fooled zem with those 996 headlights! "??

Maybe they believe that the extension allows a wrap around to accommodate side visibility (although I admit it would be a duplication with the separate side indicator), or maybe they just like them.  And Carrara seems to know what he's talking about,design-wise, and he thinks it's perfect.  Good enough for me.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

I don't think porsche added so much labeling to the back because they thought it looked good. I think it's to satisfy asian markets where labels are super important. Look how popular the signutire monogram louis vuitton pattern is.

The car in the press pictures had "PORSCHE 911 Carrera S", which im sure even the designers think is over the top, but marketing thinks differently. I agree with rossi that the most elegent is just to have "Carrera S". The plain "turbo" labeling is my all time favourite badge on any car.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

    There are 2 options:

    498:Ohne Modellbezeichnung
    Ohne Aufpreis Entfall der Modellbezeichnung.
    „PORSCHE“ Schriftzug bleibt erhalten
    911:Schriftzug „911“
Schriftzug „911“ anstelle vollständiger Modellbezeichnung „911 Carrera“ bzw. „911 Carrera S“ am Heck

But I cannot be sure if the default is: Carrera (S) or 911 Carrera (S) Smiley

Default is "911 Carrera (S)". The confusion arises from the fact that the first catalogue etc we had available indeed did not contain 911 (like I posted somewhere), but apperantly, someone changed their mind on this.

    If I understood it correctly:

    - You always have "Porsche" on the back (unless you take if off yourself);

    - Standard followed by "911 Carrera (S"), which can optionally be (i) replaced by "911" or (ii) be deleted.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Let me lay it out for all of you making it very simple. Here is what you can have on the rear from factory.

    • PORSCHE - 911 Carrera
    • PORSCHE - 911
    • PORSCHE

That's it, nothing else comes from factory besides those three things.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

     Hi!

    You forgot :

    • PORSCHE - 911 Carrera S

Not with mine. I had an Alpina B5 completely de-badged. With exhaust pipes only on one side, it looked more like a base model diesel to those that don't know.

I did think about fitting 520d badges, but never got around to it.

Wow, I sounded kind of cocky in my post, I didn't mean to sound like that at all.

pjd: No production ready cars or in any of the configurators show that as an option, so I think that the cars we're seeing with badging like that are just prototypes.

Is this GT-silver or arctic ?

Platinum silver and all-time-classic GT silber are my favorite colors for 991. They show the lines/curves of 911 design perfectly.
