    bluelines:

I find it highly unlikely the 991.2 would be unveiled already 2014. It is too early. The Targa was just presented and the RS needs to get out the door too.

Agree, 2 years is too fast for 911 to be facelifted.  I would say minimum 3 and possibly 4.

The FL Carrera from the rear. New lights and new bumper. The rear of the car looks higher in this picture.

The 991 was introduced in autumn 2011, therefore the FL will be shown in spring 2015  with production mostly after the factory summer holidays.

I wonder if the 3.0 turbo for the Carrera S will be introduced with the FL?

not necesarly, up until now, the 911 did not share any exterior design elements with the non-sportcar models like the cayenne or panamera, only with the boxster/cayman and not the rear lights at that, so this would be a change, and not for the better IMO.

That could be possible scenario. 3.0 Turbo for 991 face-lift, and hybrid for 992.

    More like 918-ish.

I was told Porsche is phasing in the 3D lights design to the whole range. Macan is the first one to get it. 991 next, Cayenne then Panerama.

IMO, Porsche need to inject some modernity in the future 911 styling. They shouldn't spoil the shape of course nor go over the top with too much ornamental detailing. But the 911 needs that something to bring it up to date; like they have done with the 981/981C models. The above sketches could be a good conceptual starting point.

I actually think that the 991 is perfect. Many 911 customers I know seem to think the same. The only thing bothering us all together is...the price tag. I haven't seen any 991 Carrera S Coupe below 138k EUR lately and most Cabs I see at the dealer are over 150k EUR. So where would the 992 be? Over 140k EUR for the Coupe and over 160k EUR for the Cab. Way too much. Of course this is the price tag with a few options but if you take a fully loaded car, the price tag can go up even further. Nobody buys a "naked" car with standard options only. Porsche knows this.

Porsche needs a feature/quality offensive: If they want to keep the 911 alive, the next generation needs to have a couple of new (and better) things. New interior incl. new instrument cluster (the technology Audi uses for the new TT is a hint), new engines which are not only more fuel efficient but also provide more torque and more power of course. Also the cars need to have more options as standard, for example the top models should have LED lights. A car for 150k EUR without standard LED lights? Seriously? You get the point.

I do not think that a too flashy and modern exterior would help Porsche, 911 customers actually appreciate the "less in your face" design and exterior and anything too stylish could actually kill the 911. For those who want more, the 960 will be an alternative.

I can understand it but I don't have to like it.

Porsche will be under a lot of pressure with the 992 but especially with the next gen Cayenne.

I think they are aware of it (hopefully).

I am generally happy with what Porsche styling are doing with the 911 , but I find their designs somewhat very near their expiry dates when they come out. They don't look very fresh.

For example when the 997.1 came out I felt that this should have been the mid-90s replacement for the 993. The 991 although a very pleasant, clean and balanced design, looks to me now as a perfect mid-00s replacement for the first water cooled 911, but not very cutting edge to carry the model until 2009-10.

With the Boxster/Cayman Porsche managed to inject something "extra" to the design via the sculptured doors and even the unique feature of the  rear spoiler/lights differentiates it.

On the flip side... while the 911 might not be on the edge of the design trends, it also does not show its age as many other cars. An extravagant Ferrari or Lambo looks great for a few years, then it looks hopelessly outdated on the verge to vulgar and kitsch.

Compare the 993 to a 90's Ferrari or Lambo Smiley
