    Nissan Juke..?

My wife saw a 'Nissan Juke' on the road the other day and thought it looked "fun & funky"

Long story short - she now wants one... to replace her '04 Mini Cooper S.

We've got a test drive organised for tomorrow and just wondered if anyone here has any knowledge or experience of this car?

Her choice of model is the Tekna 1.6 DIG-T in either Tekna Red or Force Red.  It comes fairly fully loaded and with just a few additional touches will work out at around £19K, on the road, with a 5 year warranty.

Any comments or observations would be very welcome.... many thanks guys..Smiley

Disappointing car driving wise, especially coming from a Cooper S. Excellent turbocharged motor though.

I am ok with most of the car, but that front end makes me want to vomit.

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

This model is very popular here. You see dozens every day usually driven by girls and young women. Bought by people who considered the Qashqai but were attracted by the alternative styling even if less practical.

It is a reliable, trouble-free and cheap to run, easy to use car with the added advantage to you that it is UK assembled in Sunderland. It has very good reputation overall.

Much easier to drive than Cooper and more pleasant in daily traffic.

Drawbacks: Sanitized driving experience, (should your wife care at all) and these toyish looks are not to everyone's taste.

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

    I actually read Nissan Joke...

    Seriously...your wife wants a Juke ?

In my opinion, there are currently three ugly cars on the market and these are the Smart, the Mini Clubman and...the Nissan Juke.

Maybe your wife should have a closer look...before she makes the wrong decision. I remember what my wife said about the Juke, our neighbor has one and trust me, it wouldn't be suitable for kids (and even adolescents).

The price tag on the Juke is interesting though but I'm not sure wives really care about money. Smiley

With all due respect, the Countryman is even worse than the Clubman!

I actually thought the same when I first saw it on photos but in real life, it is quite nice.

The Countryman is actually a Mini SUV but some people seem to see it as a weird Mini version...like the Clubman.

I certainly don't consider the Countryman to be ugly, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

Btw: The Mini Countryman has won the Good Design Award 2010 (so did the iPhone 4 by the way).

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

The later versions of the New Mini are usually liked and bought by females.

The original 3 door hatchback is a universally liked car.

You are a pharmacist and you know the effect of large doses of cortisone on the body. The Countryman is a Mini undergoing a cortisone therapy. That's how I view it.

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

Juke is practically Nissan Micra with a “strange „design.  For each his own, but I find it ugly as hell. Technically it is a Renault, so no big expectations here too. Rear seats are almost useless, trunk space – almost zero.

Quality is at Renault level – all the plastic parts in the interior will be broken/damaged  in an year or so.

This particular engine though is very powerful and the only thing, which I like in this car.

It is  ' fun & funky '  + Nissan quality / reliability + powerful turbo engine + great CVT gearbox ....   I am sure your wife will be happy with Juke in her favorite color .

Never thought we would be discussing a Nissan Juke on Rennteam.   We don't get this car in Australia, but I can see how people could like the looks, especially females.  Personally I am not a fan, however I am a fan of the Nissan Cube.  If only Nissan would put in a more powerful engine, I would buy one in a heartbeat!

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

The car has been compared to Marmite i.e. you either love it or hate it - so no surprise at the mixed reactions, although I do think that 'ozr' went ott when calling it "Puke"..

We had to re-schedule the test drive due to the new UK registration coming out, so the day is now this Saturday.

It definitely looks drab in most colours, especially the ubiquitous grey, but in Force Red metallic it's a different story.  Also very clever concealment of rear door handles make the easier to access 5-door look just like a coupé..

    Will keep you posted...

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

I agree - it's a 'love it or hate it' kind of thing.

Me? I don't like it at all. It would really bother me even to be seen in it ...

I showed the photo to my wife to see what she might make of it as a woman. As you know, my wife is a total petrolhead like us and she just said 'no way'

Not speaking about the Nissan Juke here (for a moment) but, as for 'fun and funky', those terms are sometimes used by marketing people to boost the attractiveness of some pretty mediocre offerings.

Mini Cooper, Fiat 500 ... yep, they are fun and funky IMHO.

IMvHO it's real stretch to add the Nissan Juke to that list.

Sorry to put it like that John - just giving you an honest opinion.

Horrible, just horrible. Maybe it's a decent car but the looks are just, well, just no words. I'm truly suprised everytime I hear someone considering buying one.

A study was done a few years ago on what made for happy marriages. After inteviewing thousands of couples, the one thing that really stood out as a predictor for happiness is marrianges in which the husband does what the wife tells him to do.

    Smiley
Your mileage may vary, but when I remember to do it, I am a happier man.

Having said that, while I can't speak about the Juke, I can say we just finished 5 years of a Nissan Murano and it was just CRAZY reliable. I believe it will run forever and I'll be the same is true of the Juke.

My wife said she wanted another Murano, but changed her mind when we went to look at a VW Touareg -- and she loved it. We bought it and now I have a happy marriage.Smiley

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

Also, you may find the Juke actually enjoyable to drive. The Murano had gobs of torque and a real fun feel on the country roads around here. If the Juke is as much fun, may not be a bad idea.

And here's the big plus, if she gets the car she wants that just gives you all that much more leverage on your next Porsche purchase.

"I know it's not practical dear, but I do love the 991 GT3 RS 5.0 Nurburgring Edition in Arrest Me Red. No? All right, I'll just get the Turbo S, then."

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

@ Easy - I appreciate your honest opinion, but really... have you seen the Juke in the flesh and have you actually driven it?  Same thing with your wife, or have you both just seen the photos which only tell a part of the story? Smiley

Also, I know you both have real sports cars ( 997 & Z4), but some of us have kids or grandchildren or dogs etc. to transport, plus the need occasionally to carry more substantial loads and therefore need something more appropriate to accommodate these requirements. Smiley

BTW - it wasn't the marketing people who thought the Juke looked  'fun & funky'. it was my wife who coined that phrase when she first saw one.... beauty is in the eye of the beholder..Smiley

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

@ Carrageous - thank you so much for your objective viewpoints and I totally agree...what she wants she must have!

Also your run-down on the Murano is encouraging - tomorrow will be very interesting when we test drive a Nissan for the first time...

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

@ RC - we actually went to see the Countryman and my wife thought it was the ugliest car she'd ever seen and immediately dismissed it from her wish-list.  This being after owning two successive Mini Coopers since the original BMW launch.

I do tend to agree with her but tastes can, of course, be very subjective..Smiley

    Re: Nissan Juke..?

@John H: yes, I've seen it in the flesh but I have not driven it. Our views are based on its looks not on how well it drives. But if the looks don't appeal to us at all, then that is enough to put us off without driving it.

I appreciate your expected usage - you don't have to justify that to anyone.

I know your wife described the Juke as fun and funky - which she is perfectly entitled to think given that it's her subjective opinion. I was merely commenting on that label not in relation to the Juke but more generally (when I was criticising ad men for over-using it for products that IMO didn't merit it) and then I expressed a personal view that I didn't think the Juke met that description.

Anyway, I just gave you an honest personal opinion FWIW. Of course, you know best what fits your needs and what appeals to you and your wife. And, like Carrageous said, keeping one's wife happy is also a very important factor. Hope you enjoy it Smiley

The cube always makes me smile when I see it on the road. if I were (much) younger and did not care about performance, I would definitely consider it.

I also find the Juke interesting. A bit too small though. The front end does make it look like a frog. Still an interesting design.

Found out today that a special edition of the Juke, called the Kuro, is available for order exclusively in the UK (limited to 700 units).  Delivery would be early October.  We are now giving that one some thought..??
