I am not so sure. The economy is not good and as I pointed along with others, the front end resemblance to the Boxster is uncanny. With money being tight even hardcore Porsche enthusiast will have a difficult time justifying trading in their 997's for the 991.
I have no doubt the 991 performance will be better than the 997 but the difference in styling and performance may not be enough for people to pull the trigger. FWIW, I showed my wife the 991 pictures and she asked what is the difference between it and her 997 Turbo. She could not tell the difference in styling.
I'm a little late to the party, but I can't believe that you, Nick, bought a 997 after all the years bashing this car. Is there a link to this epic thread?
I'm beginning to warm to this 991. I can't wait until the 991TT is out, then I will trade-in the old 997S for it.

I actually expected to see the official press release from Porsche today but no such thing.
Apparently we really caught them off guard.

What surprised me is that they didn't even do a teaser webspecial on the website... And now that the final pictures are out in the open already, I don't think that that is going to happen anymore either. Well, only two days left untill the 24th!

I don't think those photos are real
Well...your problem.
Oh no, wait...I did them myself and sent them to Rossi to make a fool out of you all.
Not.

Why do you post a photo of a camouflaged 991 if the real photos are already out ?

This is an excellent comparison shot of the two:
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.
Indeed, excellent comparison photo but I still wonder if the rear space is much better now. I had only a short glimpse at the rear space a while ago and it looked almost like the one on the 997...disappointing.

Something strange ... perhaps you guys can explain this ...
http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/bilder/porsche-911-carrera-s-laenger-komfortabler-sportlicher-3965758.html?fotoshow_item=0#fotoshow_item=7
My German language proficiency is limited but it seems to say ...
The 991 front track is 1538mm whereas the 997.2 front track is 1486mm.
The 991 rear track is 1516mm and the 997.2 rear track is 1516mm i.e. unchanged and overall width is 1808mm i.e. unchanged.
So the front axle is now wider than the rear axle on the 991 but it is the other way round on the 997.2. Is this a typo or is it meant to be this way?

It's so naughty of PAG ... you have to watch the video several times at least just to make sense of the fleeting glimpses of the various body parts ....
But I didn't spot anything to contradict the photos released recently ...
It's also somewhat ironic to release a teaser video whose theme is 'identity' when the very thing PAG is trying desperately (and failing) to hide is the nature of that identity ...

Easy,
track is measured between the middle of two wheels. For example, were both axles to have the same track the one equipped with wider tires would still have the longer distance between the outer edges.
On the 991, the rear tires should still protrude around two centimeters further on each side than on the front axle, if my calculations were correct.

Carlos from Spain:
I would not hold my breath for much extra rear space, there is not much room for improvement even if the WB is 10cm longer, the problem is still the height IMO, and the 991 if anything has a lower roof line for the back seats.
Unfortunately it is the doom of nearly every new car to get bigger with every model change but without gaining much interior space.
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.
