Wow Grant, I had never seen pictures of your purple one. You must miss it.

Your replica takes the cake... That interior is just perfectSmileySmileySmiley

Yeah, I do miss the 73 2.4S.  Color was called Aubergine (French for Egglant).  Looked darker in person than in the photo.  I bought it for $16k in 1999, sold it for $27k in 2003 - today it would be worth more than double that amount...

IMO you've kept the right one. Your replica is priceless!!!

Thanks, guys.  I wish I could have you drive it to see what the fuss is about.  It really takes machine-man interface to a high level.

X3 , agreed ! It takes away from the horrible blinkers and give it a nice aggressive/sporty look

I like that look too!  Does anyone else think the brakes look too small now with the 20" wheels?

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

I hate the 20" wheels as a must.  I use 18" in the winter and 19" in the summer for my 997 and it's as high as I would go.  I am actually looking at not getting 991 as an upgrade and looking at other options because in Montreal (where I live) the roads suck and I do not think that I can get away with 20" no matter how "good" they made the overall suspension.  yet to see 991 in real life though, a bit disappointed with 7-speed manual and 20" wheels.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

20" and 19" wheels does not changes the profiles of the tire wall diameter...  so if u check carefully, its the same profile width on the tire wall.....

It also looks very aggressive with the -20mm.  Imagine how much more aggressive the wide body will be - can't wait for the 991 GTS..!

Has we seen a rendering of the wide body (C4S) yet?

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Very nice car, the blue one, though I think it's not aqua blue.

I absolutely agree with Gnil, when it comes to the hideous front indicators, the design of this detail is just plain wrong IMO. Concerning the brakes we have now the same phenomenon that we had at the presentation of the F430, when the CCM was not standard: these cars have girlie brakes, they just don't look right in such wheels. It coluld be the new Dark Blue metallic but, this color looks darker on sample plate.

BTW, almost totally agree with you on new Boxster look. I like the fact that Porsche decided to create more difference betwenn them. New Cayman should be very, very interesting product-just with max. 325ps it will be underpowered...

Don't get hung up on the wheel diameter, the 991 with its 20" wheels, is much more confortable and manages the bups and pot holes better than a 997. Try one over the roads you are familiar with and compare for yourself before you take any desitions kiss

Haven't seen anything that Euro NCAP pedestrian safety (leg form, upper leg form and child/adult head form)  testing are only done when the engine is in the front but that doesn't mean it's not true....  If you can direct me to that specific info (only do Ped testing on front engined cars) would appreciate it.  Smiley

Got mine too!  Kept thinking there was such a big box I must have won a dang car!  Now it is sitting on my desk - reminding me constantly that if they can spend this much money on fluff the 991 must be a bit overpriced.  ?

It also makes me miss my '84 911 (3).  sigh

One of the things I love most about the 911 is the heritage and the family resemblance... they captured that nicely!

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991... (LAUNCH thread)

Porsche ME is currently holding a Middle East 991 introduction for the press at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, featuring even Michael Mauer himself. The journalists are all hyped and stunned. Porsche has brought many 911s to the circuit, mostly with PDCC (spot the front lip spoler there) and doing some comparison runs with and without it. Quite a big difference everyone raves.

On a side note, Porsche announced they had taken already 600 pre-orders for the new 911 in past few months. Impressive stuff. It's gonna be great year for them no doubt.

How is a 7 speed manual a disappointment?

The girliebrakes aside, this is a very nice looking car. I like especially the PORSCHE only lettering at the back without the model designation. Smiley

How much bigger are the PCCB's?  Maybe the switch to 20" wheel was a marketing decision to help sell more carbon brakes Smiley

So, did the car in that video have the Sport Exhaust?  Or, is the design of the exhaust tips supposed to be different?

Right, those tips are the Sport Exhaust's tips. Also seems like it has the -20mm option because it also has the front lip that the standard car has and AFIK only comes with the -20mm or SportDesign aerokit. That lip makes a world of difference to the looks of front IMO Smiley
