    Thanks bobr.

Used not to be a huge fan of Porsche designs (had huge respect and envy towards their engineering excellence), but their recent design evolution and direction are really great and they rapidly becoming my brand No.1 in terms of everything.

This new 991 is going to be just ridiculous! Can't wait till next week...

I don't get it about the sunroof being this big but not opening all the way (if it does, it will block the rear)

So if the opening is only this small, why made it so big?

     They kept the dashboard wart!

Hard to tell from the pics, but could it be that the sunroof is made of tinted glass rather than metal Smiley

In that case: larger sunroof = brighter cabin.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

Yeah, the sunroof is definitely a tinted glass.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

Maybe the sunroof isn't fully open. I wonder if this is a sunroof, the new Targa or both.

     thanks for posting.

good to see the 991 in black.

i like the rear with the camo since it makes the rear lights look thicker and the whole back better proportioned.

the front with the eye brows looks so fussy and extraneous and down market.

IMvHO,i really hope the running lights are flush with the air vents and not dropping over the sides.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

Guys, the sunroof is metal and painted the colour of the body. Here is an interior shot showing how much the sunroof opens.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

Looks like it can open a bit more.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

If it works like the 997 then you can hit the open button again and it will slide back further.

If you're using google chrome, right click the image and hit open in new tab, then it will appear. If not don't worry, the pictures don't reveal anything special or new.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

I love the new colours it seems Porsche is going retro with the colours. I'm hoping for a solid/non-metallic blue.

Grant, isn't the car you're showing the '74 RSR Turbo? I agree to the 2.8 RSR being the most sexy 911 though!

You can tell it's before 1974 from the long hood and the grilles next to the lights (both gone after 1973).

Thanks, didn't know that! However, I'd never seen the aerodynamic extensions on the rear fenders on the 2.8 RSR, were they only used for a particular event?

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

I believe only Martini Racing used them.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

The sun roof had better be an option as I wouldn't buy the car based on how bad that looks.  I know that's a fairly naive thing to say without considering all the other good aspects of the car but it just look awful!  Other than that I'm look forward to the unveiling.

I think that was a prototype version.

Re: 991 spy shots Thread Closed

^^ The car you posted (#8) and the two ran by Martini at Le Mans in 1973 (#46 and #47) all had those extensions. I think they were special fenders made by Martini.

    ----

I just did a little bit of research on the electric power steering systems used in the Panamera/Cayennes Hybrids, and reviews say the steering still feels sporty, but its obvious it isn't hydraulic, and they would much prefer a hydraulic system. I'm not sure if the 991 will use the same system, but I hope not.

You can also tell because its got a great big sticker next to the front left head light saying "1973"1313562271341runaway2.gif

Due to the unique characteristics of the Circuit de La Sarthe ,  many teams have Le Mans Aero Kits.
